She said “I used to think maybe you loved me but now I’m sure” so she’s happy because she now knows for sure! This song is contagious and makes me feel good!❤❤
Very upbeat sound and group. This is their biggest hit. A new wave, pop rock band. They were together in the '80s and '90s. Other hits were "Do You Want Crying" and "Love Shine a Light". See those videos!
The movie High Fidelity, with Jojn Cusack and Jack Black in the record store. Black comes to work, tells Cusack he discovered a song that changed everything. Cusack says play it - its this song, that he turns up ad loud as he can, and on only Jack Black way, starts to run and dance all over the store. The scene is on YT and it's a must see.
Brad's dream scenario for this song: While Katrina is doing that fancy footwork, she stumbles, falls, breaks her guitar and her leg, and the paramedics get called. Performance end.
Secretly Brad strategically layered Katrinas performance path with ice cream and has been excitedly waiting and watching from row7 seat D at M.S.G for said accident to occur..
Haven't heard this song in ages. Brings back memories. It's true that stores should pay compensation to staff for having a small song collection on loop. 🤣
Hi Brad. I worked in a factory that played elevator music all day. (Pop song music with no vocals) One day I found my self humming a song and realized I could not hear the sound where I was. That day I found out they played it on a loop. after years you knew what song was next. when I went to 2nd shift after the office staff went home some of the guy would change the radio to sports. I could quote a players stats and I don't follow baseball. I felt brain washed.
Brad was lucky that he got real songs on repeat. When I worked in a supermarket as a kid (back in the 90s) all they had was copyright-free knockoffs of 80s hits on repeat with all the vocals replaced by synths. I'm pretty sure it would be classed as torture today.
This song ALWAYS makes me think of the Michael J. Fox movie from 1987, "The Secret of My Success". I haven't seen it many years but hearing this song brings it back into my mind like I just watched it.
saw them at a club one night and I was right up against the stage and Katrina leaned over and kissed me on the cheek! That totally made my night, I don't know why she did it, but I was totally shocked when she did. Great music too!
there are a couple of overused songs i'm still tired ioff. But most of them you forgive over time. With this one it helps to make it quite loud. But that's juust "overplayed" not associated with a horrible job. In a shop i'd find incredibly cringy even as a customer.
Definitely got a lot of airplay in Canada. One of those either you love it/or you hate it songs. Personally I love it. So catchy. Sorry Brad. Can't wait till 9:00 to find out about the BABY!!!!! I'm picking GIRL. 💕💕 Great reaction. Big Hugs from Canada ❤️ ❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
A bit of Canadian trivia. This is a UK band but their first album, with the original version of this song, was released only in Canada, because a Canadian label was the only one to pick it up. That version became a hit in Canada, which caused the band to re-record it and release it again two years later. This is the original version, which is very similar but a bit different. ua-cam.com/video/-W6m6nUNaiI/v-deo.html en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walking_on_Sunshine_(Katrina_and_the_Waves_album)
I can see Brad angrily folding those cookie chunks into the ice cream, cringing and shaking his head. "I say, I say, I say it again now ... HEY!!! Alright ...Mmmmm."
Sharing Brad's sentiments, because I heard it SO MUCH on the radio at the time. It's a cute upbeat song, and used perfectly in the Look Who's Talking movie. But, ya know. Enough already. 😆
I can relate to what Brad said. I used to work at this furniture dealer in Seattle that had music playing, and the one that was played constantly was "Mr. Big Stuff", by Jean Knight. EVERYONE grew to hate it- except me, because it reminded me of a girl I had a crush on in the early 70s, when this song was on the radio all the time. So it held a special place in my heart. But I certainly understood the reactions of my co-workers, because enough is ENOUGH. The other 2 songs they played a lot were "Baby, Don't Hooked On Me", by Mac Davis, and "Me And You And A Dog Named Boo", by Lobo. It was the soundtrack of 1970s purgatory- not quite hell, because mercifully "Disco Duck" or "Feelings" never came on.
@@glynanthony3499 lol, I was thinking if I had the right movie. Secret of my success is the one where he moves to the big city to work at his "uncle's" firm, right? I'll have to watch them both again.
Lex needed to be able to read the lyrics on this one. She was off target. When the singer says she wants him back, not just for a weekend, it's like returning from a trip or military duty, not a relationship split. It sounds like he has proposed to her. She's feeling great ... walking on sunshine, floating in the air. "I used to think maybe you loved me, now, baby, I'm sure ..." "I used to think maybe you loved me, now I know that it's true ..."
She is sure he loves her...as she says at the start. so she's walking on sunshine and happy. simple... Maybe you had to be there, back when life was more carefree and we appreciated happiness. We loved this song so much.
Written by band member Kimberly Rew (a male guitarist just so you’re not confused) who previously played on the Soft Boys with eclectic rocker, Robyn Hitchcock. Robyn is most known for his mild hit, Balloon Man, back in the 80s. I got to see Kimberly and Robyn when they reunited the Soft Boys around twenty years ago. Great concert and musicianship
Yes, this song was WAY overplayed and I actually got a bit tired of it. But this is the first time I've seen the video and she is so happy and adorable, it makes me happy again.
I'm like Brad about a lot of pop songs that were overplayed in their time. Most of them are sappy songs; "Total Eclipse of the Heart" is probably the worst of them for me, and then there's that '70s Debbie Gibson one "You Light Up My Life." I could go the rest of my life without hearing either of those songs again and be completely happy!
Awww... My very first memory is dancing to this song around the aerobics studio where my Mom taught classes. Always makes me smile :D Then again, I never worked at Cold Stone Creamery.
Have you ever heard a song by a new artist that you absolutely loved, and yet knew that it would be a one hit wonder? For me, this was one of those songs. But, it’s a great one. It’s on my summer play list.
Filming it on a cold damp sunless foggy day, in other words every day in the UK 😉, while she's singing in a short sleeve shirt while others are freezing, was a nice touch.
I always thought it was ironic that this group was Katrina and the Waves when these days Katrina is remembered as a hurricane and waves of water that flooded a city.
This classic is part of one of my favorite mashups. I wouldn’t have thought interwoven Slayer lyrics would fit with Katrina’s, but it does so well! By Bill McClintock called Slayer and Katrina & the Waves - Chemical Warfare (Don’t It Feel Good?)”
Funny thing about this band, is they are British, hence the shots of London in the video, but the lead singer, Katrina Leskanich, is from Topeka Kansas.
The first time I heard this song on the radio back in 1985 I thought it would become a hit and it did. Those Motown style rhythms went over well in the eighties (see Phil Collins). But I totally understand how the song could make Brad wanna hit somebody, because I felt that way about the song a few months later after radio programming over-saturation played the song to death.
Fun Fact: Like The Pretenders, Katrina and the Waves is a UK band, but the lead singer is from the Midwest U.S.--Topeka, Kansas in this case. (Chrissie Hynde is from Akron, Ohio.)
Quite possibly. I teach an aerobics class and it's the fastest 80s hit I know. I've never dared to use it because I think everybody would be falling over themselves!
She is happy for she knows the guy loves her for sure as she says at beginning of song and going to mail box to get letters telling her he is coming around, But she was talking when she wasnt sure and she wanted him for more than a weekend visit , now she is sure he loves her thats why she is walking on sunshine , shes sure he loves her. Need to relisten to the words , to catch this , this is why the song is so happy.
A thousand times would get me, too, especially if I had to sing for my tips. That’s cruel, Brad! It was a fun little pop tune at the time, though, and I liked it.
VERY 80s!! I still liked the song ok when it first came out, nice bouncy, happy vibe, but like Brad said, it was played to death (in the 80s, Brad got over-exposed much later 😏), I got tired of it. Thankfully, I haven’t heard it for many years so it sounded almost fresh. Nice reaction, guys.
She says in the song, "I used to think maybe you loved me, now baby I'm sure." So she's walking on sunshine because she's glad she was right.
Well the next few sentences make it sound like she's convinced but he's not back/there yet.
I think he's coming home and on the way .
She said “I used to think maybe you loved me but now I’m sure” so she’s happy because she now knows for sure! This song is contagious and makes me feel good!❤❤
Brad Angry at Walking on Sunshine... 🤣😅
Definitely a catchy tune. Type of song you'd hear a school dance... You guys are tearing up!! I love the reactions...
Every job that forces "hapy & and peppy" is hell.
Katrina Leskanich is an American we Brits were happy to adopt. Won the Eurovision Song Contest for us.
Katrina And The Waves were the last U.K. winners of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1997 with their song "Love Shine A Light."
With a guy, who played with Rainbow, Gary Moore, Ozzy and Deep Purple as conductor ;-)
The UK won it this year. Sympathy votes don’t count in my book.
This is a great song. I've loved it since I first heard it in 1985.

Such an upbeat song. I tried to ignore it but always found myself bopping along to it. Lol
This is a guilty pleasure. It is so upbeat and I like her voice. She looks like she'd be a pleasure to be around.

Yep, and the song "Love Shine A Light" is fantastic .. A very deserved winning entry.
Rick Beato (you know who I'm talking about!) just recently pegged this as one of the best one-hit wonders of the 1980s. 0-:
She's walking on sunshine because she's SURE that he loves her.....she said that in the song!

This song and "Mister Blue Sky" by ELO are the two happiest songs ever written and recorded.

This is a great fun summer song. It’s a must have for any summer themed playlist.

Thx! We used to call it overplay when a radio station wore a song out of it’s appeal! The test of time will tell!
This song just screams '80s.
Thanks for the reaction, especially considering it must have been painful for Brad.
