I think it’s important, too, to analyze and learn from one’s decluttering, not just to chuck things out. Why an item didn’t work is the most important thing. It helps me to write down these findings, for example: bad fit, hate fabric, uncomfortable, color wrong, too dated or just not timeless, unflattering, low quality, etc. And my really big one - too dressy for my real lifestyle!
Totally agree. I gave a coat away to my friend and when i saw it on her it looked Fantastic, but on me it was horrible because too broad on the shoulders. Anyway I had coat envy and then bought a similar one on eBay which fits perfetto. 😊

I have a lot in my wardrobe that is still in good condition but is so not my style anymore but I find it so hard to give it all away.
Amber Leavitt I know that feeling! Like I say in the video I do tend to hold on to and store items away that I can’t bring myself to part with as well. Because maybe you want to use them again at some point ❤️
xsk12 this is me! I’m always weighing up the pros and cons / features and benifits of a product before buying. If it’s not absolutely perfect I struggle to spend! Love a good quality piece
This video is a testament to the power of a smaller wardrobe because even though it's now 4 years old, Signe's clothes are still very much in style. I even just got an outfit idea (white jeans-black belt-taupe top)
Hi, Signe. I really needed this tips now that I'm about to do the seasonal cleaning. I've been purging my wardrobe for around a year and replacing my fast fashion stuff with second hand better quality items. For me, the biggest trouble has been the guilt of letting go pieces that I bought out of impulse and I don't really like.
That is hard but once you realise the damage was done the moment you bought it as in you wont get that money back nor the time and energy you spent purchasing it and now its completely yours do with what you will. So keeping it isnt going to somehow get your moneys worth out of it if you dont truly love or use it. So youd be better off donating it or giving it to a friend who will use it and that way at least you'll be helping someone else and prevent them from having to add demand to the market for new clothes especially fast fashion ones. If you sell them then either put the money in a rainy day jar to not touch under any circumstances unless its like super emergency stuff or invest in more sustainable items so that you wont have to go shopping to replace them and fall into impulse buying etc if you dont see it you wont want it. Or if you have an item you really love that might not fit to flatter you or perhaps needs to be mended you could buy a small sewing kit or use that money to take those clothes to a seamstress or tailor so you can wear them.
@@EmmaAppleBerry Also you can do swaps with your friends, if they have stuff that is not right for them but would suit your own style. It can make for a fun evening to get together and try stuff on, even make up and perfumes. Everyone can go home with new things and stuff isn't wasted. Also try using something in a different way, making a dress into a blouse or a tunic is reasonably simple and may make it more useful to use. Trousers into capris or shorts, jumpers into cushion covers or bags...think outside the box, if you like the fabric but not the style, how COULD it be useful to you. I like adding vintage lace to things to personalise them or beadwork or buttons. It also means you are not going to meet someone wearing the same thing as you, your stuff becomes singular and different. And it's fun to do.
I have learned so much about myself by watching you and following your steps in decluttering my wardrobe. I was so shocked at what I had that I had forgotten about. But I am getting there with your help on how to approach this. You simplify ways of approaching how to look at it and what is needed to succeed. Thank you
I totally agree & have recently applied what you said in your “condition” segment. I am keeping with my decision to only have 5-7 pieces of clothing (except coats & jackets & special occasion). I like having just enough for the week & wash day. This has really cut down my washloads. Also I experience less stress/anxiety about my wardrobe😃
Thank you for the video. The part about knowing your “mistakes” was important to me, since I think it’s in a human nature not to analyze them because of mixed emotions 👌🏻. The shirt you are wearing is absolutely gorgeous by the way 🤗
I just changed over my fall clothes. I was able to come up with a whole new outfit yesterday. The blue-green sweater matched my print scarf perfectly. I got compliments on the outfit. Kathy B.
This video was great!! 😍 Though I did not declutter much at all, I saw my wardrobe in a completely new way!! I watched the find your own personal style video before this, then after watching both got straight to work in my closet! I was able to see that I mainly wear lounge items more than anything else due to my from anywhere/ at home job so I need to make sure my favorite lounge items get put together with other items that I love that happen to typically be other people's everyday wear! After separating everything into categories of all year basics/ everyday wear, seasonals to store away, occasion wear and lounge/ sportswear/ everything else... I felt like I had way more to wear/ choose from even with my winter seasonal items completely taken out! I also found that my core style is casual/sporty/loungewear with secondary styles of classic feminine/ flirty chic, boho chic and a slight military/grunge/hipster. Everything is a full majority of black, white and grey with a few different shades of darker greens and dark and lighter blues. I also had a few light pinks as well! I can't wait to see what I wear in the next upcoming few months and then be a bit more brutal on what I decide to purge later! Thank you so much for your videos I truly feel like these are the only ones that have helped me narrow down what I actually wear... to where/for what occasion. 🙏🙌
Old cotton socks are great for dusting. I cut the toes and heels off, which I give to my husband to use for checking the oil in the car (he won’t use paper) instead of using my good rags. Then I cut the remaining tube lengthwise and it’s a good rag to use over and over.
Love love all of these tips/steps! Your videos have been so helpful during this recent stay at home order we’ve been under... I finally have no excuse not to declutter and create the Wardrobe I love ❤️
I really like how you always stress that it isn't about the number of items you have. I've found myself getting anxious because I had more than 33 items but I liked what I had...so thanks for taking that weight off our shoulders!
Thank YOU! There is a ton of similar videos across UA-cam, but there is just something about you that makes "fashion" things easy :* So thank you again! PS. I am the one who still needs to declutter and guess what - thanks to you I just have put it on my to-do list.
To declutter, I'll just throw everything from each type of clothing on my bed, try the things on if I'm unsure and sort in keeping, donating, recycling and throwing away. If something just doesn't fit anymore, I'll donate it, if it still fits but kinda doesn't look good, I recycle it into something new and if it's broken, I'll throw it away. That way I don't waste too many old clothes while staying organized
Love you’re videos always so informative. I find it so important to not only speak about downsizing in quantity but also the negatives about synthetic fabrics. I love to use a “guppyfriend” washing bag, it catches all the fibers.
I think I finally...after months...decluttered my closet to refine my style, and I sold what I dont wear which was a bonus, because now I can put this money towards investing in a key piece I want....a brown leather bag.
Your tip about keeping trendy items is very timely for me! I am currently upset with myself for getting rid of a pair of dark purple lace up boots that I really could have used in my current capsule! I usually buy things second hand to save the environment so I find it too easy to give away things that I might like down the road but I am not currently using. I will hold on to them from now on if I still like them to see if they are usable in the future. Great tip!
I have done the same mistake many times, but I try to think it that way, that maybe there were some reason I did it. It's easy to remember how nice the item looked, but then I often remember that the fit or the colour or something was always wrong with it. Many times when I have gave away piece that was nice, but not "perfect", I have found the perfect one just right after 🙂
This is very useful . Thanks for doing this for your viewers. Personally I have to have items in my wardrobe that I don't like.My style is varied but I really don't like office clothes etc that you need for work and flat shoes that are not boots or sneakers etc..Workwear is an absolute nightmare for me..I dont really have the type of creative jobs etc where you can dress like you do..and am not a fan of what I call boring normal person clothes etc blouses and skirts. A lot of offices think trousers are untidy especially if you cant afford expensive designer ones etc or even high street at about 80 to 150 pounds a pair..
Great video and ideas for decluttering and organizing capsules! Thanks so much! I like to donate or sell clothes that are in good condition. If there are any stains, wear and tear, etc, I take those clothing items to H&M because they recycle those materials when creating new clothing for their H&M Conscious collection/line. Plus, they give you a 5$/€ coupon (with no expiry) for each bag of clothes you bring in to drop off!
Thank you for this video, useful to keep on top of the shopping habit. I also have a couple of things to mention, I told you about Turtle Doves who recycle cashmere jumpers etc into gloves and other bits. They arrived 2 days after I ordered them and they are very good quality, I work for a company that sells high end cashmere jumpers so I know a bit about it. I got them for my mum as she has bad circulation in her hands, she was very impressed with them. That's a thumbs up! 😊😊 Sorry to rabbit on, other thing is how do you stop your necklaces getting tangled together, I have tried wearing two and they just get wrapped around each other. I haven't got the knack yet. XX
Thanks for the great tips! They're sensible and easy to do. My question is, to have a wardrobe we love how do we prevent ourselves from buying needless pieces in the first place? It seems like this would be much better for the planet/economy/our budget than buying clothes, only having to declutter them later. I'd love a video about this, too!
I usually start by colours, like in the spring I got rid of all the orange, coral, and some reds and this fall brown is popular but not for me so I get rid of all the browns, beige, camel and warm beige and gold that I know will go at the consignment store, except a nice cachemire that I have to fix and that trench coat on the picture that is insulated. That's a start!
Perfect video and you just inspired me to modify two items right now. Did I tell you that you convinced me to buy a sawing machine? You did! :) Fit skirt and jeans coming up. I hope :P
Thanks! They turned out quite well although it took me 3h because I was watching Kdramas too :D And I also made a jeans skirt following your tutorial. You're so cool and such a big motivator for me to stop shopping and appreciate what I have. My Lush shampoo bar is amazing too :) Thank you on so many levels! You're making a real difference!❤️
This is such a timely video for me, I've just been decluttering all my storage crates and and wardrobe! Thank you so much for your eco-conscious videos, it's really inspired me to re-think every time I purchase something now (or if I really need to purchase it at all!). I'm wondering if you know any good resources to learn more about sustainable fashion, like documentaries, books, etc? Thanks so much! :) xx
The down side is that I’ve gotten rid of 2 or 3 tops that I really liked but it was no longer in good condition or didn’t fit anymore, so I got rid of it. 3-4 years later, I regret that I got rid of it cause I really did like it and never found anything else like it. That’s why it’s so hard to decide sometimes and why I have way too many clothes.
Oh I know, I know! And if only I had known how good the thing would be I would have bought multiples. But I have realised now that I don't have to keep everything for ever. Things can be got rid of before they wear out, and while I still like them.... I have so many clothes, but only one body....! I don't actually NEED all these clothes! 😜
I'm very thankful that I found your channel. My biggest challenge is I seem to accumulate a lot of summer/spring pieces. I seem drawn to those colours and fabrics. Do you have a video on a capsule wardrobe for this season or any tips to cull?
I had a few shirts that I didn’t like the color of and a few other ones that the material was too difficult for me to maintain. I decluttered those few items and feel so much better! I have a few other items that I use frequently but dislike. I am on the hunt for replacements. I have to remember that it’s ok to not be into something anymore after having it for 10 years and that it’s ok to replace that item.
I have made quite a bit of progress; but still feel like I have too many items. I ask myself your suggested questions; getting "yes" to fit, style, color etc.... I use the off season storage totes which does help. No shopping at all for me this fall/winter season. So for now even though I would like a little less; will keep what I have for now. Thank You for all of the useful tips.
Hello!!! Signe it's always great to see your New videos thanks to you I'm rethinking my whole wardrobe and slowly but surely I'm creating my own pair down wardrobe and I'm very happy about it so again thanks from the bottom of my heart sincerely Alicia
Asking myself what I can pair with each item and if I can picture outfits that feature each item helps me a lot, because I have many pieces that I love, but hardly anything goes together.
Hi Signe! I am curious if you were a "handbag or shoe" gal before you gave up your shopaholic fast lifestyle? I think I could manage this responsible lifestyle but not without my bag collection????
Hey Signe:) can you maybe share some tips about storing clothes in a very small closet? I have a very lottle space for my clothes and also a chest of drawers for tshirts and tops (konmari Style) but i would appreciate the best tips for storing clothes so you can see everything you have according to season etc. I always find something I did not know existed , i think i would need more clarity on this front . Thank you :)
i have cleaned my wordrobe 3 times and i feel like there's even more clothes everywhere in my room 😂 i think my problem is not that i have so much clothes but tbh my storage space is too small i think....would a person with too much clothes say that? probably 😅 but really idk what i'm doing wrong. any advice is very welcome ❤️
I have a small closet and have been decluttering for years. I just now realize that I can only wear so many items, so I keep only those that I love. If I put something on and something about it doesn’t make me feel great (fit, material, suitability, etc.) then in the sell/donate bin it goes and I have never looked back because there is always something exciting to replace it with. :) you can do it!
@@donnaboyle7513 thank you so much❤️ yes i started to be more "loose" when it comes to donating clothes. i used to have this mindset "what if someday i'll regret it? what if i start to like this item again?" but now i'm like "zosia, you haven't worn this in over a year i think it's time to let it go" and tbh i think i'm a little bit more organised. it's still not perfect (also i bought some boxes to put under my bed and i put some gym clother in there so my storage space got bigger) but i think i'm getting there. i'm this kind of person that gets veeery attached to things (just like my grandma) so it's not that easy for me. thanks again for the advice❤️
Cool, I’m happy that it came at the right time! They are from a local hardware store so I can’t provide you with a link, sorry love! ❤️ the ones for shoes are from Ikea though 💋👍🏻
Great topic,I’m so torn by clothing items that my husband loves and is always saying how great it looks on me and this makes me feel guilty so I just keep it.
I relate to this struggle! I’m considering taking an item that I don’t love the print/colour of at all to the tailor to get another made in a fabric that better suits my wardrobe.. That way I don’t have to entirely get rid of the piece, but it can work better for me. Maybe something like that could work with some of your items?
Hi Erin! I live in states but wanted to know about a cashmere brush you have mentioned. What is the difference in a regular de-pill device or sweater /lint brush? Thanks!🤔🤔
Decluttering isn't an option for those of us who like to experiment with colors, patterns and layering. You need 1) a particular item 2) in a certain color/hue and 3) exact length/hemline and 4) with particular details (sleeve style, etc). For example, this week I took a pair of jeggings (quiet tones of black & amber in a brocade pattern), added a cropped charcoal black blouse with "tuxedo" cut hi-lo hemline as an open jacket. A hi-lo ivory/cream sleeveless silk shell with a ruffled-edged scooped neckline was worn under the charcoal jacket. The hi-lo hemline of the shell is about 2" longer than the charcoal hi-lo "jacket" blouse all around. Even though I own at least 20 silk shells in the white, cream, ivory, beige hues, ONLY one really worked for what I wanted. Creative ensembles are much more difficult to pull together from limited options.
I think she has a video a while back of how she did it! Edit: I found the two videos she made about her hair - ua-cam.com/video/XodnWhuSXtY/v-deo.html & ua-cam.com/video/V_p-TiZzhhU/v-deo.html
I'm just in a cloths clutter mess. I am still having issues...either it's a memory to it or someone special gave it to me. I did cut some up in the past and started a memory blanket...rag blanket...but I have not finished...
There are many components to ways to de-clutter fast . One plan I discovered which succeeds in merging these is the Nilah declutter tips (google it if you're interested) it's the most useful guide that I've seen.Check out the interesting information .
I feel like my issue is that I don't have alot of variety in my wardrobe. I buy alot of the same item. Then I find myself stuck. I also struggle to dress my inverted (slightly more curvy body). Lol I find your videos soothing, watching them when I get reaDY
That's OK! If you know what works and what you like, you don't need variety. That idea actually come from the fashion industry to sell us more clothes!
I’m going to declute* my entire wardrobe of 8 years because I am turning 18 and going to be moving... I am lowkey afraid of getting rid of something and then wanting to wear it like a month later and that’s one of the reasons why I have a hard time getting rid of stuff.
Practical and useful...and realistic. Thanks. But those wire, dry cleaner free coathangers are a no no. The majority of clothes are damaged by them, or slip off, or are stretched on the shoulder.
About all that declutter I am always wondering if it is really neccessary to give away things. I have a real trouble to find good way in choosing "what to store" , "what to give away". You have your speical boxes in closet for storing, but it is not only for seasonal itmes, right? It could be good to have some clarity how or what to store if you really dont want to give away specific piece but you don't use it so much as it should be;)
Patrycja JT I have linked a blogpost with a closet tour in the description box - but really I try to just keep winter and summer/spring items parted. Other than that it’s quite mixed 😘😘
I love to de clutter and I’m only 12 and I share a room with 2 sisters and my 18 year old sister is so messy I can’t take it what do I do I’m going crazy 😐🥺🤯
Another little tip I’d like to add is, you may like the design but you may not like the way it looks on your body. Me personally, I have a very large chest that I’m not entirely comfortable with showing off, I have this t-shirt and I absolutely love the design but I feel like it shows my breasts too much. So if you’re stumped on an item try it on!
I don’t know what to do cause my mom went into this store with me obviously 🙄😭 and it was buy 1 get 2 free so she forced me to chose ones I would wear the most and I did the thing and the reason why is I have four more sibling all tweens and one teenager and back to story btw I’m very picky with my clothes cause I really have to think would I wear it? So we got them and then we went to a few other stores and it’s a few weeks later and now I feel terrible cause I bought some clothes just to have clothes but I probably won’t even wear them so it was a waste of: Time Money Clothes other girls could buy And I don’t know what to do 😔 and the clothes I got that I actually do like are stained and stuff like tiny dots and I don’t like it and the thread and last time I pulled something like that my shirt was ruined forever 😭😭😭 and I was literally crying cause I felt so bad and I’m a little to big for the kids section but the woman’s section is a little to big even an extra small So I need CHEAP but good quality clothes so anyone know any stores also no crop tops! Or anything too short! I already know about.. Walmart Target Old Navy Rue 21 Forever 21 Children’s Place H&M Marshalls Burlington Tj Maxx But some of these places are a lil to expensive so anyone know good places that are cheap, good quality, and school clothes for big families?
I’m so attached to this white shirt that is too big for me, the sleeves are too long it’s almost see-through I never wear to be honest I don’t even like it that much but it was $100 and I can part with it
"Would I buy it again today" was such an eye-opening tip for me! Thank you.
Now that you say It ..... I feel terrible... Sometimes I Buy clothes online and sometimes before rhey arrive I'm already thinking of the things that I regret buying....

Old shirts you love you can frame as art or repurpose into a bag or something
Yes - great questions to ask yourself...like, 'Would I buy it again?' Thank you for this video. B
I’m always looking forward to your videos ♥️
I have learned so much about myself by watching you and following your steps in decluttering my wardrobe. I was so shocked at what I had that I had forgotten about. But I am getting there with your help on how to approach this. You simplify ways of approaching how to look at it and what is needed to succeed. Thank you
You have truly been my guide and inspiration during my recent major declutter!
The shirt you are wearing is absolutely gorgeous by the way 🤗
I love watching your videos. It’s just like a reminder to myself that I already have everything that I need. Shopping truly is an addiction for me.
I just changed over my fall clothes. I was able to come up with a whole new outfit yesterday. The blue-green sweater matched my print scarf perfectly. I got compliments on the outfit.
Kathy B.
I like the way you organize and explain.
Great tips. Would I buy it again is a good one for me. Ha ha to a decluttering video that youtube fill with shopping ads !!!
I felt these tips were some great ones I haven’t thought of before or heard of. I really liked the idea of storing a trendy piece. Great info!
HikeGardenTravel so happy you didn’t feel like it was one big repetition! ❤️❤️
I love your wholistic approach to decluttering
Very inspirational and helpful. It is also very good to see a blogger so concerned with the environment and sustainability. Thank-you!
I looove your style and your advices😻❤
I love everything about this channel!
Very helpful video for me, thanks Signe! The lists and links were helpful too ♡♡
Starts at 3:36!
I think I finally...after months...decluttered my closet to refine my style, and I sold what I dont wear which was a bonus, because now I can put this money towards investing in a key piece I want....a brown leather bag.
Do you know the brand Live fashionABLE? They make beautiful bags and have a beautiful story as well!!
Great advice! I love how you say to keep some favorite trendy items for a while.
Hello.Thank you so much for sharing your tips!
This video was so calming for me!
Many times when I have gave away piece that was nice, but not "perfect", I have found the perfect one just right after 🙂
Just ran across this video and it was incredibly helpful! 💕
Insightful! Thank you 🙏🏽have a great day
This is very useful .
It’s always so good and exciting to watch your videos. Thank you!
Sorry to rabbit on, other thing is how do you stop your necklaces getting tangled together, I have tried wearing two and they just get wrapped around each other. I haven't got the knack yet. XX
Gail Thorpe When you take off your necklaces re-fasten the clasp and store them that way.
@@mikaelalivadiotis2 Thank you but I meant they tangle when I wear them. XX
I don’t have a trick for that really! I just detangle them through the day which is a really bad habit, because I’m always touching my necklaces haha!
Thanks for the great tips! They're sensible and easy to do. My question is, to have a wardrobe we love how do we prevent ourselves from buying needless pieces in the first place? It seems like this would be much better for the planet/economy/our budget than buying clothes, only having to declutter them later. I'd love a video about this, too!
love love your style & thank you for sharing these tips 🖤
This dark blue color looks great on you!
It is called Navy Blue.
I hope :P
OliveOanx how amazing!!! I’m happy to hear you are ready to get all crafty, haha 😍😍👍🏻💋
Amazing tips! ... Love your outfits videos please more outfits ideas, I really love your style
Thanks for the tips
Thank you :)
i'm never past a wardrobe declutter! there are always the buggers that stick around if you don't continue to challenge ruthlessness.
Thanks!
Off topic but where did you find that chain bag? I’m looking for a bag that l can change straps. Thank you so much x
i have cleaned my wordrobe 3 times and i feel like there's even more clothes everywhere in my room 😂 i think my problem is not that i have so much clothes but tbh my storage space is too small i think....would a person with too much clothes say that? probably 😅 but really idk what i'm doing wrong. any advice is very welcome ❤️
Thank you so much!
Perfect timing I can Declutter to start fresh for my birthday today! can you Link your containers for shoes and seasonal clothing?
Happy birthday, greetings from germany!
Today my birthday too.
Cool, I’m happy that it came at the right time! They are from a local hardware store so I can’t provide you with a link, sorry love! ❤️ the ones for shoes are from Ikea though 💋👍🏻
@@andreaschweers5604 thank you birthday twins! Happy Birthday to you too. :)
one thing you should keep in mind is even if its a little stain, some people keep shirts with small satins but dont wear them because of this
How do you store your heavier coats for warmer months? I have limited space and have such a hard time with this!
Thanks!🤔🤔
Another paste error! So sorry!
I have the problem w buying and letting items go too! :)
Thanks so much
Decluttering isn't an option for those of us who like to experiment with colors, patterns and layering.
Even so, almost everyone has items that no longer fit you, structure or color is worn. Item has holes or stains, no longer brings you joy, etc
your hair is beautiful, I love the color. Do you lighten it yourself? If so what colors, brands, & process do you use?
I think she has a video a while back of how she did it! Edit: I found the two videos she made about her hair - ua-cam.com/video/XodnWhuSXtY/v-deo.html

@@bloocandy247 THANK U.. Psalm 62:7 My salvation and my honor depend on God;
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
How do you find a cobbler or leather worker to fix things in California? I can only find retail stores, and they don't want me fixing things.
3:21
I feel like my issue is that I don't have alot of variety in my wardrobe. I buy alot of the same item. Then I find myself stuck. I also struggle to dress my inverted (slightly more curvy body). Lol I find your videos soothing, watching them when I get reaDY
That's OK! If you know what works and what you like, you don't need variety. That idea actually come from the fashion industry to sell us more clothes!
When you said costumes, I think you meant occasionwear :D Great video!
E.hiem ooops! Haha 😂😂
Thank you! Oh, where I can buy this nice black shirt that you wear in this video?
Vivi Vivi it’s old from People Tree but I have linked something similar in the description box 😍👌🏻
The phrase is “touching on” ❤️
How many tops do you wear?
Kom som kaldet, jeg skal rydde op i mit skab i aften og lave min efterårs capsul 😍
Julie Lund åh hvor skønt! Held og lykke med den! 😍😍🍂
Some items that are beyond repair can be turned into rags or handkerchiefs.
So we got them and then we went to a few other stores and it’s a few weeks later and now I feel terrible cause I bought some clothes just to have clothes but I probably won’t even wear them so it was a waste of:
Time
Money
Clothes other girls could buy
And I don’t know what to do 😔 and the clothes I got that I actually do like are stained and stuff like tiny dots and I don’t like it and the thread and last time I pulled something like that my shirt was ruined forever 😭😭😭 and I was literally crying cause I felt so bad and I’m a little to big for the kids section but the woman’s section is a little to big even an extra small
So I need CHEAP but good quality clothes so anyone know any stores also no crop tops! Or anything too short!
I already know about..
Walmart
Target
Old Navy
Rue 21
Forever 21
Children’s Place
H&M
Marshalls
Burlington
Tj Maxx
But some of these places are a lil to expensive so anyone know good places that are cheap, good quality, and school clothes for big families?
I’m so attached to this white shirt that is too big for me, the sleeves are too long it’s almost see-through I never wear to be honest I don’t even like it that much but it was $100 and I can part with it
How many articles of clothing to you have in your wardrobe?
