I love this. I’m constantly decluttering but always feel like I’m missing something so I end up purchasing without any plan so learn how to shop for those gaps is a game changer.
The BEST video on decluttering a closet, hands down!!!! I started doing the Kon Mari method and gradually started accumulating a maybe pile, but how brilliant to think of writing everything down to really narrow it down! Brilliant!!!!
I have watched so many decluttering videos and I have to say that this is the absolute best. I am 64 and I have been into fashion since Twiggy and I have always declutter the way you explained. I tried every item on. Thank you for making this video and I'm so glad I found you!
I only keep items I would buy again. The rest goes in our family store. I learned from previous mistakes where I had to go and get certain things again because I was even more minimal than my YT minimalists. Today I wonder how they can make 100+ declutter videos until I understood, they were actively bringing it in, it is just not what they show, making you feel miserable. I really liked this 'soft' approach. It is more intelligent than the emotional 'get rid of it all, now' - regret it later, or get it again. IMO most minimalists are hired by the weak economy to sell and produce more😢😂 I literally heard them say, 'now there is space we can go shopping again'. Just to create another declutter vid and keep us busy watching their endless channels when we should live our lives and not be told what to toss. This one is different, thank you❤
@@KimBedene yes! Most Min. YTs I have a heard time with by now, this preachy style is hard to listen to, when you realize they just have a very clever way to mask their shopping addiction, most of us suffer from, by simply getting rid of things . Your vid. is so authentic and thoughtful, it actually prevents ppl from the mistakes I wrote about above and made myself. Wish I had seen it when I first started years ago😅. But happy for the rest here! Have a great day!
I moved out to one room aparment and I had to match all my clothes to closet: 1.1m width and 2.8m height. I thought that it is impossible but thanks to this experience I'm happy. Decluttered made me happy that I could get rid of clothes which remind me about bad memories. Now I have space for creating the wardrobe which I love :)
We moved to a unit with a built-in wardrobe in the main bedroom and my husband and I have a space of 85cm each. We are retired and it is more than enough space...just. Thoes extra cms sounds like luxury. lol
I loved it. I have an excel file where I record my garments for the last 5 months. I collect some of the same questions, but your data is much more valuable such a comfort level and how it makes me feel etc. I will update the file tomorrow with some of your questions. This is how I do it, in case someone finds some parts of it useful. I have created a file in a table format with all the clothes categories and all of my garments (date of purchase if knows, price, color, fabric, pattern etc). Everytime I wear an item, I record it. After a 3 month of a season passed, I look at what I wore the most and analyze the items to see why I preferred them. Then, I analyze what I did not wear and why. Extremely useful.
Yay, I'm glad you liked this, and thank you so much for sharing your process, you're really committed 😉💁♀️ I was actually thinking about tracking my wardrobe as well, so I can then share my data and make a video after every season, so now you inspired me to think about it more seriously, hehe 🤔🥰
With the items I keep/put in maybe, I will try on everything in the wardrobe with it. For example, if i have a pair of pants, i will try it on with every single top, no matter how sceptical I am to whether it will look good or not. Through this method I have found a lot of new combinations and ways to wear items I used to think were difficult to wear. It helps me feel a lot more creative and opens my mind to what I really like.
Wow, that's a great idea, I never thought of doing that myself 😃 I think it could be a lot of fun and as you said, there are new potential outfits we can discover this way. Thank you so much for sharing! 😘❤
Thank you Kim! I love this more scientific approach to de-cluttering & better understanding your style. You should maybe consider attaching a PDF with those all-important questions you've listed so viewers have a ready-to-use resource?
I'm glad you love it! 🥰 And funny you mention this as I was just recently thinking about sharing this file in my email newsletter, since I have it anyways it wouldn't hurt 😉
My only wardrobe is built-in and small but has everything in it: clothes, bedding, towels, shoes etc. even two bags of stuffed animals so I really have to keep it organized. I understand now why I don't wear certain clothes. These will be taken to our local animal shelter, they receive money for each kilogram. Thank you so much for your video :D
I forgot to mention two things: - also write down what kind of metals or hardware are there in your items, or if there is none at all (very useful to have!) - and another reason why we want to do this in categories is to see the different preferences we have when it comes to different categories (e.g. you may like colourful tops, but prefer neutral bottoms - which is again very useful when shopping) And if you want to organise your closet like a pro, watch this next: ua-cam.com/video/a-TFbunklsQ/v-deo.html 😘❤️
This is probably the best method I've heard of yet! Especially, because at the end you know your likes and dislikes on colors, shapes, materials, etc. Gonna try this over the weekend!❤
👗i am excited by this Kim! I have done several declutters over the past year but I can't wait to try this one. I have a feeling it will get me the beautifully curated closet I want and a very appropriate minimal shopping list.
What a great vídeo! It's the best step by step declutter guide. I'm trying to get rid off the clothing I don't wear but there have been years and I'm collecting more and more clothes. Today I'm going to try your tips. Wish me luck!
Thank you. I do try all my clothes on. Several times. Especially when I realised i go to donate items because I am in a mood. Better mood equals I perceive myself in a kinder way. But I do place that item on notice to see if it does negatively influence my behaviour and mood. I had a colour and style consultation years ago and I can say it was worth the money.
Funny! This is almost exactly how I do it! Except: I start by "keep" or "maybe keep" vs. "not keep", which saves me the work of writing things down for what I won't keep anyway. But then again, it could be useful to know what you don't want to keep, to know not to buy it again. I guess I've done that in my mind for most of my life, which makes shopping easier: "No, not my colour!", "Acrylic. NO WAY!!!" "No turtleneck." Etc.etc.etc. (I'm 47 years old. I wasn't like that at the age of 15.) ❤ /Sara
Love the red blazer, love the metal hardware. Like that you inject red into the neutrals you wear, so they don't look so drab. Red puts energy into your neutral wardrobe.
I find your advice very reasonable and original. The Konmari method emphasizes on spark joy and minimalism emphasizes on getting rid of things, so both are limited and with them we risk the yoyo effect... I am looking for a more sustainable and durable approach, so I will try your way and let you know if that is more successful in the long run.
👗This was so great.I have gone through my closet with my mom, a friend, or my adult daughters and sometimes their suggestions caused me to keep things that I probably wouldn't have more often than suggested I get rid of something that I wanted to keep. I will do this by myself, and I love the analysis because I never figured out what I lied or didn't about the different items. This is going to be so helpful. Thank you for this video!
Thanks for sharing, I can definitely relate to this too because my mum says everything looks great on me so it's super hard to let things go 🙈😅 But I'm very excited for you to go through this process, I hope you love the results ❤️
👗 I usually try doing this type of thing in one day, and it gets really tiring very fast! Doing different sections on different days would be helpful to not get too tired too quickly.
Thank you! I am very glad I found you. I get frustrated that I don't declutter easily. Thank you for reinforcing that there is more to it than do I like it! It isn't easy and thank you for breaking it down into elements to help me understand my style better. ❤
Thanks, Kim! 😊 I think I'll go with an excel file next time around and include what you mentioned - categories, colors, cuts, etc. as I really need to optimize my wardrobe due to lack of space. And I will pay special attention on the No's and Maybe's. Recently even after receiving an online order, the minute I feel wierd about an item, or in doubt, I return it. I don't want new Maybe's hanging around.😞 Also as I wanted an app to help me out in optimizing/wardrobe statistic and outfit creation I downloaded the "Open Wardrobe" app and it is really nice. 👍 You can add all your clothes, shoes, bags, etc. and really play around and create new looks; also analyze wardrobe, see repeating items or missing ones, etc. Maybe others will find it useful as well. Hugs from Bulgaria! 💕
this was excellent. im going to try it. i have been trying to build a wardrobe and have had the same issues you did originally I also keep track of the jeans that I buy and rebuy the same fabric
👗Can't wait to get started. May be moving soon and have lost some weight so I'm excited to go through the clothes I love but haven't been able to wear til now again.
Wow, this is so helpful!! Came here just from searching for help, I’ve tried Marie Kondo and do enjoy her idea of “sparks joy,” but also found that is limited -certain items don’t “spark joy” necessarily (eg my raincoat, scuba suit, work blazer) but they are so useful to keep around. Thank you!! 🎉
I do very similar Kim wear what I like and remember to not buy the wrong colour that you can't mix match also v necks only for me I'm in my sixties have slight bust love the note book fab fab
This is the most useful video I have found after years of trying to declutter my closet and often not being sure what to buy after I missed out essentials after (Konmari wasn't the solution for me xD ) 10 items in and I already learned that I never have to buy 3/4 sleeves again. Thank you ♥
I can totally relate to loving the decluttering process itself😅 Unfortunately, I have already decluttered all of my stuff as well but thankfully there are enough decluttering videos to watch on youtube (e.g. yours😉) to get the same contentment🙈
Brilliant! Thank you, this is what has been missing for me, and why I keep making similar mistakes when I've decluttered my wardrobe. Can't wait to try this out!
I’m watching almost all of your videos while I declutter my closet, it’s helping a lot, given me motivation and ideias. I’m in the second day, and hope to finish it today. The video you did telling your story about being a “ shopaholic “ i related so much, but like you, I got in a point where I don’t really know what I have, and always fell like I have nothing to wear. Thank you for all the knowledge, I’m really feeling so much better now that I’m cleaning the past and the bagged that don’t suit me anymore - and some that never had-. I’m now a new follower and expect to watch you channel grow, cause I now it will, you content is unique and I don’t see often around. 😘
Aw, thanks so much for your kind words and for sharing your story ❤ I know how great letting go feels, so I'm very happy for you and proud of your progress. I'm also very happy to have you here as a new subscriber 🥰😘
Great video! I’m excited to try this. I’ve been declutterring my closet for awhile but still feel like I have too much clothes that I don’t wear. Thank you for sharing your method!
Very helpful video. This seems to me a video with original idea or something that I haven’t seen or heard before. I normally don’t leave comments but this video demanded one.
Super helpful video! I definitely feel like there are three different people represented in my closet, and depending on my mood/ what I’m doing, sometimes I like masculine looks, sometimes retro drag femme fatale, sometimes all black western looks, so its SO hard to declutter my massive wardrobe. It all fits, I haven’t changed sizes since high school, and it mostly fits in my closet, where don’t have piles out of the closet anymore, but it’s SO crammed that I’m disinclined to put things away or reach for shoes that are in the back of the closet. Maybe a more detailed method like this, despite it taking longer, will give me better insight. Thank you for making this! :)
Thank you! 😊 And yeah, from what I read this method can definitely help you get more clarity, so definitely worth doing, hehe. But if that isn't enough you can also try building a seasonal wardrobe for each season, so that way you put stuff that isn't season-appropriate or even just stuff you want to take a break from away for 3 months, and you're left with a lot more room in your closet 😉 Hope this helps and I wish you happy analysing! 😘
Yes yes yes to everything you explained!! I've been watching your videos on repeat, you are soooo good at this, the best I've found so far. I've started de cluttering mainly because I move countries so much and wanted less things to carry. But there was an important piece missing, I didn't do the analysis and still didn't understand my style, so struggle with what to wear and how to incorporate the things I love. This is where you come in and I'm so happy that I found the missing piece and am excited to move from simply decluttering to finding my unique signature style🎉😊. Thank you soooo much ❤
Aw thank you so much!! ❤️ And I know exactly what you mean, I was in the same position: constantly decluttering without analysing and then not understanding why I don't know my style well or even worse, buying clothes I wanted to declutter later on. This was missing piece for me too, so I'm happy I could help 🥰 Thanks for watching! 😘
I personally prefere to keep my maybes in the regular wardrobe, because that way i can challenge them almost daily, and finally have a clear view of "can i wear them REALLY?". Of course, i am talking about in-season-items, otherwise i would take them away in storage and wait for the right season to come
What do you recommend for clothing that you want to keep for memorabilia? A wedding dress, soccer jerseys from high school, a sparkly red jacket my MIL passed down to me, shirts that my grandpa wore before passing?
I personally love the idea of having a sentimental box, where you put everything from cards, gifts, photos and also clothes. Whatever is sentimental and that you want to revisit in the future. I have one box, my husband has one, as well as my sister and my mum, and they all enjoy it. But if things get too bulky you can also take pictures of items and declutter them, or just store one piece instead of the whole set (for example since I rented my wedding dress the only thing I kept from my wedding is the wedding veil). Hope this helps 😊
My weight fluctuates with it going on the bust, so there is drawer with tops that are a size down, came in handy this winter, as the bust had dropped 2 inches so a lot of winter tops fit better. My calves and thighs loose next. Had very little black, but have brought black pants and a skirt as I wear a lot of colourful tops.
Definitely agree with having face and makeup done before going through. If I don’t have time I just lower my mirror or stand closer so I don’t see my face at all. It really does make a big difference if you don’t like how you look. You’ll get rid of everything
Yessss replace what you have liked wearing also dresses then replace when needed also v necks I love I only buy that wearing more white in warm er weather
Dress emoji) It was something I have never heard before. Especially loved about types of fabric content, that you for example prefer jeans with specific type of fabric. I am curious to check my preferences now)) Thanks.
And that’s why people might not start Over analysing I agree with the tip If you haven’t worn it in my time is 2 years you probably won’t If you actually dont like it You won’t wear it The exception is if you live in a warm climate and have some warm winter items you don’t wear but can see yourself using them if you are likely to visit a cold area Keep some of these they would be costly or difficult to buy
This approach helped me get out of the "declutter and buy" cycle, it helped me find my style and improve my shopping habits, that's why I made this video 😊 But if someone doesn't feel it's the right approach for them that is fine, I'm just sharing what worked for me 😃
Excellent job! Before I clicked on this video, I had already decluttered my wardrobe exactly this way except for writing things down. Makeup, trying on everything, going through every category, etc. Then I went back and re-decluttered, finding I didn't really like some kept things after all and so got rid of them! Your presentation is very cute! Rosie 👩🦳 74 🇨🇦
👗Love your videos. Definitely going to try this method even though I know it will take me a long time. It seems like it will be worth it. I did a quick declutter but this will help me go deeper with having to try it all on. Thank you!
Yay, I'm glad you do! ❤️ And I know it can be overwhelming when we have more stuff - but on the flip side - the more to analyse, the more we learn, hehe 😉 I hope it goes well and you learn a lot! 😘
Very good video I think winter and summer also three pairs trousers for evenings tops no more then ten skirts couple dresses four done day wear ten tops or blouses four pairs trousers couple leggings four cardigans you would wear them you are so right the cut of the dress colours that suit
This is a very good video about decluttering AND finding your personal style. Brilliant 🤩. Thank you. I wish you would put the “style-description” list somewhere. THX 👗 👗 👗
I made lots of videos (and will continue 😉) on outfit ideas for each season, and also how to style certain pieces in many different ways, which you can check on my channel 😊
Hello! I am new to your channel and thank you for your guidance in decluttering clothes. I have such emotions regarding decluttering my closet and I will use ur great advice!! I do have a question....many years should clothes be kept? Thank you for your wonderful video and I'm very glad that I discovered your channel
Welcome, and I'm glad you're finding advice useful 😊 As far as how long to keep our clothes - we can have them for as long as we want. I have some items that are even 9-10 years old and they're still in great condition, and most of my items are around 3-5 years old. So it's really up to you - if you enjoy them and they're not damaged beyond repair, keep them! 😉 I hope this answers your question 😘
I love this. I’m constantly decluttering but always feel like I’m missing something so I end up purchasing without any plan so learn how to shop for those gaps is a game changer.

Yay, this makes me so excited, happy decluttering! 😘🥰
👗👗👗I love decluttering too! Your method is brilliant. I like adding how do you feel in the item.
Yay, it makes life so much easier when we love decluttering doesn’t it, hehe 😉 And it makes me super happy you love the method! 🥰❤️
Yay, happy decluttering! 😉😘
Very helpful video. This seems to me a video with original idea or something that I haven’t seen or heard before. I normally don’t leave comments but this video demanded one.
Aw, I'm happy to hear this! 🥰
But if that isn't enough you can also try building a
seasonal wardrobe for each season, so that way you put stuff that isn't season-appropriate or even just stuff you want to take a break from away for 3 months, and you're left with a lot more room in your closet 😉 Hope this helps and I wish you happy analysing!
This makes so much sense!!
I personally prefere to keep my maybes in the regular wardrobe, because that way i can challenge them almost daily, and finally have a clear view of "can i wear them REALLY?". Of course, i am talking about in-season-items, otherwise i would take them away in storage and wait for the right season to come
Yes, me too, it helps me to wear and style the maybe items in a new way 😊 Thanks for sharing! 😘
This is perfect! I’m gonna try this
Yaaay, happy decluttering! ❤️
You have given some very helpful decluttering advice in this video and also, you look sensational in that red dress! Thanks Kim.
Oh thank you, I'm glad this was helpful! 🥰
Haha, so true! 🤣
Yessss replace what you have liked wearing also dresses then replace when needed also v necks I love I only buy that wearing more white in warm er weather
This really is the BEST descriptor video I have seen on closet decluttering! Thank you! I’ve shared with family and friends!😎❤️
Aw, thank you for sharing! ❤ I'm glad you enjoyed it so much 🥰
This is brilliant!!!
I am totally going to try this in excel 🤓
I'm going wild with pivot tables!
Uuhhh, I love me some excel spreadsheets, great idea! 😉😘
Dress emoji) It was something I have never heard before. Especially loved about types of fabric content, that you for example prefer jeans with specific type of fabric. I am curious to check my preferences now)) Thanks.
Yay, I'm so glad! 😊
👗 such an amazing method you have come up with.. thank you - new subscriber from Australia ☺️🙏🏾
Thanks so much! 😊 I’m happy to have you here ❤️
👗 this is cool😁😁
I will do it this week for sure!!!
Thanks kim
Yay, have fun! 🥰
And that’s why people might not start
Over analysing
I agree with the tip
If you haven’t worn it in my time is 2 years you probably won’t
If you actually dont like it
You won’t wear it
The exception is if you live in a warm climate and have some warm winter items you don’t wear but can see yourself using them if you are likely to visit a cold area Keep some of these they would be costly or difficult to buy
Aw, thank you Rosie 😊❤️ And sounds like you did an awesome job with your wardrobe, well done! 💁♀️
👗 Intresting video really would give it a try to this method. Thanks!
No problem, I hope you get the same results as I did! 😘😍
Great advice. Thank you. 👗

Having decluttered, i feel Ihave random items, so it would be useful to see some seasonal outfit ideas
Very nice ideas😊
Thanks a lot for this video! 👗👗👗😊
