I just did this exercise in front of my wife. With a Bm pentatonic, an E & an A chord, & she said, "Is that a song I know or is that something you wrote." Good stuff.
Led Zepp lawyers waiting on that Major 3rd so they can claim and demonitize this video hahahaha. Love this. I am doing this every weekend! Thanks stitch! Love your lessons
Ian! There you go again flipping on the lights. I've been playing guitar for 40 years and this never occurred to me. Man is this fun. I haven't picked up my guitar in 2 weeks. This video made me run to the living room and get my guitar in my lap and see what I can come up with. Thanks for Building A Fire. You're pretty great I hope you know.
I really like this. Improv and soloing is nice and all but this content (rhythm) is what I need. I think it’s what a lot of guitarists need. You can noodle around all you want and play scales but it’s nothing if you don’t have the backing track or chords you know? Thank you for this
Please do a slow demo on how to transition in time and groove on a basic 4/4 at first.Understand fundamentals of riffs, melodic soloing, double stops but to play to even the slowest 1,4 backing track in 4/4 timing, I freeze and invariably mess up.Just count while you change with groove ssslowly.Have understood your aviation analogy, how to charter a route etc.,(Brilliant!!!) But no timing no music, chaos, cacophony.I thank you in anticipation.PS: Thanks a trillion for all the golden 'nuggets' you selflessly share.
This video right here is going to blow a lot of minds. It applies just a very small subset of the topics that you cover on your channel, to tremendous effect. (“Yes, beginner guitarists: even you can create your own riffs and they’ll sound good!”) And it’s done with your signature and inimitable style. Let me be the first to predict it: this video is going to double your subscriber base.
Hey man, been playin just over a year now I’m not bad with open chords/some barre chords. Been complimented on my rhythm by people that’ve been playing for many years. This is exactly the kind of info/inspiration I’ve been looking for to make my own jam. Thanks
I've been looking for this kind of info for a long time. Thank you!! I taught myself the pentatonic scale and this is the next step on how to us it. I all of a sudden sound much better at soloing. I can't thank you enough for this amazing lesson.
Ian, this is brilliant. This challenge is a great way for me to integrate (and really learn more forms) these scales into music of my own. I've been stuck in this limbo of playing rhythm guitar but my heart yearns to play more lead concepts. This particular video speaks to me so thanks!!
Using my meme account for this but I just wanted to say how incredible this explanation was, now may I add I’m no pro guitar player, barely so! I’m as green as the grass gets my friends, but I have an old guitar I play on regardless of knowledge and this tutorial just 4 minutes in with some close observation taught me the basics of everything I needed to know without the required knowledge! I’m playing riffs and I’ve apparently have been doing that somewhat all along. BIG UPS thanks for everything
Having never used major pentatonic, I never could tell what the difference was between that and the minor. In one short lesson, you cleared it up for me. Thank you.
Amazing!! This opened so many things for me!! I kept learning these scales but didn't understand the connection of all of them and how to use them!! Thanks for this
Another fantastic lesson, you have a rare gift. Really appreciate how you succinctly show how to put theory into fun practice. Greetings from the Netherlands
Absolutely brilliant Ian. You deserve to be rich after this. I have bought a few of your pdf tutorials recently but I feel I need to give something back for this. Thanks so much. You are a true legend.
You are just an excellent teacher..., I always learn something! I'm not very good (YET!) but every time I start to become discouraged I come here & your such a pleasant fellow, always lifts me up. Thank you
Awesome lesson man. I can’t wait to try this. You really bring a simplicity to these concepts that make it very approachable. No more pointless noodling!! Yes.
Very useful video. Id love to see a follow up to this, perhaps a series on this riff writing process. This is one of those lessons that be can be built up on. Like another "way" to start writing riffs building off of this lesson. Great way to start to creative process or even starting to write your own material.
Love this guy. I've been a fan/customer for a long time. And even though I'm still treading/stumbling along I would have not gotten this far without the Stitch man. Thanks.
Every time I see a lesson on the major/minor pentatonic, I am reminded of Robben Ford's lesson on the pentatonics. It seems he and many others have this in their arsenal and use it liberally. This is an excellent lesson! I call it Major pinky and minor pointer.
Thank you for yet another awesome lesson! You do such an amazing job of taking theory and putting it into quick, practical concepts that can be put to use immediately. It is greatly appreciated!
I was just saying yesterday that I learn something new and applicable everytime I watch Stich Method! Here is another perfect example. Thanks for a great lesson.
WOW, the index finger and pinky thing was the missing link on Pentatonic scales for me, simply mind blowing moment of understanding how/where for me. Thanks !!!
07:54 was part of another guy's tutorial (won't say who😅) and it threw me off because it was under a beginner's lesson. This video makes so much more sense because everything is explained 😊. Thank you so much for making this easy to understand
1) There are quite a few very talented guitar teachers on UA-cam and you are one of them. 2) I really enjoy your lessons. They are very useful. 3) You look like Denny Dias ("Do It Again" by Steely Dan). ☺
Hi thank you for the video l have not played for 35 years and after having a stroke l want to get back into it you have awoken up some things to me l had forgot regards Allan
Shit. This has opened me up to something that I've been struggling with. When trying to write my own I've been relying on the scale of the 1 chord....and it sounds so ...DULL no matter how much I change the rhythm, where I begin on the scale, which scale I use. I'm gonna be having some fun with this now. And such a simple change that I overlooked it.
I just did this exercise in front of my wife. With a Bm pentatonic, an E & an A chord, & she said, "Is that a song I know or is that something you wrote." Good stuff.
Booo yeah!!!
Does your wife have a sister 😊
2 actually! 🤣😂🤣
@@TheSTEEBOS 😊
I always thought that is about as good as a compliment as you can get 😜

Totally agree. This has potential to make you a millionaire Ian!
One of your best lessons, immediately applicable, most of us want to jam, this is a great how to, thanks 🙏🏽

short, easy to understand, one core concept/formula presented clearly, shows us how to do it step by step, gives examples... thanks, Stitch!

Dude u just blew my mind I’m a beginner and u made me understand so much that my guitar teacher failed to teach me thinking I was the next Eddie

You are a legend!!! I write my own songs and I always struggle to make riffs, this is unbelievable helpful. Thank you so much
Amazing!! This opened so many things for me!! I kept learning these scales but didn't understand the connection of all of them and how to use them!! Thanks for this
Again, just amazing teaching skills Stitch, you never cease to amaze me with the simplicity and clearness of your message.

I always thought that the riffing/ soloing was usually off the one chord, maybe by using the 5 , I might finally get some traction in my soloing
My jaw dropped after this great simplified hint!
Aye man, this was awesome!!! Especially for writing Soulful riffs that Rock 👍🏿

Ian you're a legendary guitar teacher ;)
Why does the G pentatonic work with the key of C? And does the 5 of every key work as a pentatonic for every key?
Great lesson!
Very cool video. Thanks for sharing.
I played the whole lotta love riff . They all said " it sounds similar" ..
Thank you, Sir, 😇
Thank you so much, This very useful
how does this work if you play the 5th as minor when its a different key? g major has fsharp g minor has Eb Bb totally different notes
Really great lessons here!
