    I notice this on an extended (3+ day) fast. My weight doesn't change throughout the fast or immediately after. A few days later I'll lose like a pound a day for several days.

    Yes. I got so frustrated and felt trapped because I cannot reduce my calorie intake any lower and I cannot exercise more than what I am already doing in variety.

      It is frustrating. Sometimes more advanced techniques are needed to spur fat loss.

      I wouldn't trust the weight you read on the scale. Trust your performances. How fast you ran or how much weight you lifted. This tells you much more about how fit you have gotten. And obviously how you like your reflection in the mirror. I always tell everyone: The weight is just a number. I know a guy who almost got rejected by a health insurance company because his BMI is around 27. He had to send a picture to prove that his weight comes from his muscles :D

      @@Physionic I went for ADF (Alternate Day Fasting) to break the plateau. But gradually increased my calorie intake to re-train my metabolism. And not to look like a walking eating disorder memo.

    I've started water fasting ~8 weeks ago, lost 6.7kgs in the first 7 and now I've been on the Phase 2 plataeu for ~10 days. I'll reply here when I get off of it.
    [(3 workout days per week; usually at the end of a fasting period.)]

      So, you're still eating, then? It's intermittent fasting?

    • @Levo.22
      @Levo.22 3 роки тому

      @@Physionic yes, 20:4 intermittent fasting.
      Interestingly, the plateau occurred when I started dipping below the 30.0 bmi mark, but I'm sure its just a coincidence.

    My entire family does long-term water fasting (4 to 21 days) several times a year for autophagy. We have all experienced the woosh effect on the longer fasts. I come from a family of scientists and the benefits of longer fasts are what keep us fasting. We have not experienced the woosh effect on shorter fasts (less than 7 days).

    Read any keto forum and there are constant references to the whoosh effect. All mention fat being replaced by water and then the water being released. I've had it happen. You urinate far more in the morning beyond normal. Anecdotal of course but too frequent IMO to dismiss it out of hand. And the whoosh happens way past the fat adaptation phase (8-12 weeks) as keto is diuretic in nature..

    • @Physionic
      @Physionic  3 роки тому +3

      True. Clearly *something* happens when undergoing fat loss that leads to this stop in weight loss, and it may very well be this, but I do wish someone would test it and see if this really is the case or not.

      @@Physionic Yes, also considering that fat loss is 84% carbon dioxide and 16% water.

    Can you tell me is it normal that my fat have like lines up on the inner thighs, not like stretch marks but carved lines in that jiggly fat, and will it go away when that fat goes away??

    I was eating 1200 calories a day from prepackaged foods so I know it's correct and losing nothing for several months. No whoosh for me though. I could only get the weight off when I started to do weekly extended fasts of 72-96 hours combined with eating more on the weekends then I lost 100 lbs in about a year. There's a lot of reasons you can hold water even while fasting so I don't doubt the WHOOSH does exist for some people but I doubt it will ever be able to be pinpointed onto a single specific cause.

  • @therealsachin

    For me whoosh effect is very long like 10-14 days. Yes, this logically makes sense. There is no other reason to suddenly see a drop of 1.5kg after the scale being constant for so long.

    That is happening to me, too. I'm doing 5 days straight fasting and was losing a lot of weight. On the third time I did this extended fasting, it happened. The days I am not doing the extended fasting, I try to have only one or two meals a day.
