In 1967 Bobby Bare gave a concert in Anchorage, Alaska. At the time I was in a family band that included my parents, two brothers (bass and lead guitar), my sister on drums (who went to play with many country stars) and myself on accordion/keyboard. We went on the local radio and Bobby heard us and my dad invited him over to our house for a chat. I'll never forget how gracious Bobby Bare was. Afterwards I learned Jerry Reed played on Bobby's first big hit, 'Detroit City' and 'Four Strong Winds' and others. This interview with the 'Old Dogs' is a delight. These gentlemen influenced generations of pickers and singers alike. Immense talent. Thank you for posting these videos. RIP to all of them and may Bobby enjoy his remaining years in country music.
Thanks for sharing that great story. That is an awesome memory to have. I admire your musical talent and that you shared your gift for others to enjoy. . Thanks for watching my video and sharing your story about Bobby bare. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Boy...he hit the nail on the head ! I say the same thing now . I don't know who's... who when I turn the radio now days . They do all sound the same . All the boys sound the same and all the girls sound the same too . This is a awesome group of guys in this bunch and back in their day you knew who they were when they were singing . I miss those days . Can't wait to watch the rest of this . Thanks for sharing this !
THANK YOU, Bill Gibbs, sr , for uploading this series of 5 'live' discussions between the 4 Old Dog and Jimmy Dean. Now Jimmy , Jerry and Waylon have passed ..... Sadly, so has Shel Silverstein who wrote some of the most brilliant lyrics in the history of Country. Thank You - for the memories.
Oh my gosh YES! Waylon was only 60. HE was gorgeous. I have to wonder what’s with the shades? Looking at him from a distance with his hair like that he looks so much like my husband - RIP. Bill had beautiful hair and used to let it get that long at times. He was a aero space design engineer at a big aero space company so he couldn’t let it get too long. Or if he did next thing you’d know they’d send him on a trip so he’d have to go get a hair cut.
Thanks so much for Posting this special. When this Album came out it was one of my Favorites, I'd bet that Cassette LIVED in my Tape Deck for 2 years. Now it Lives on my iPod. I was just a young Pup when this came out, and Now that I'm an OLD DOG, I can relate to it so much more and Appreciate it so much more
I'm just tickled pink to be able to watch these...all treasures and funny as all get out! LOL@Waylon...he got all the 'dirty' songs...he's so cute I can't stand it.
I Think. That Jerry Reed -N Bobby Bare..N Mel Tillis ...N Waylon Jennings Are Very Funny Old Dog's Having So Fun.... Together Singing N Telling Jokes N Laughing... In 1997-1998... With Shel Silverstein... The CD Called Old Dog's Is So Awesome...
What a video and the Waylon song sure hits a funny note 3 of the people here have left us Waylon, Jerry, and Jimmy Dean and so is the writer Shel but they will all live forever threw there music real legends will always be immortal thanks to the recordings that exist when you want to hear them just pull out a album and relive with them
I know what you mean by being an Old Dog now, so am I but just not as wealthy as those Old Dogs. A lot of people never seen the video, only had the album. Glad you found it on my site. Thanks for your very interesting comment.
The tapes were for sale at one time but I don't remember where. There was also a tape of Old Dogs singing some songs. They were given to me by a good friend but I Don't know where he bought the tapes. Probably no longer available though.
Jimmy Dean at the end of this segment talks about country singers all sounding alike during the time of this interview. Truer words were nevef spoken. If anyrhing it's worse now. I can not listen to any current country or rock music. No melody, no individuality and all monotony!! I was a fan of all these guys but especially Reed, Marty Robbins, Roger Miller and the super talented Ray Stevens.
I couldn't agree more. I think it's more noticeable in the female singers. The problem is that the audio is run through electronic filters so every voice sounds the same. I don't listen to the new artists anymore.
