  • Captain Tom delivers a rental boat from Cape Coral Boat Rentals (www.capecoralboatrentals.com) to a customer on Captiva Island on a cold and wet December day.
    Along the way we see mega yachts, sunk boats and a pod of dolphin jumping wakes of boats.
    Captiva is still rebuilding from Hurricane Ian but many places are open for business like The Green Flash and Tween Waters resort.
    Welcome aboard!

    I enjoy all your videos. Even something as simple as this is fun to watch and you make it entertaining. I’m new to boating as well as my wife and I just picked up a 17ft hurricane. Getting to learn the waterways in New Port Richey and can’t wait till summer. It’s our first and your videos are helping us along the way. Thank you. Keep up the good work.

      Insurance is the hold up and I'd imagine there's probably quite a few denied claims and/or lack of coverage due to cost or availability. From what I hear up here in Utah, insurance companies are pulling out of FL and it's getting harder and harder to find a company willing to write a new policy. Maybe Tom or someone else actually living there can correct me if I'm wrong.

    • @AdventuresofHappyOurs
      @AdventuresofHappyOurs  5 місяців тому +1

      Not everyone has flood insurance. Any structure with more than 50% of its value in damage must be rebuilt to current codes. That is cost prohibitive to many.

    Try some Grundens rain gear. It'll keep you bone dry, but it doesn't breathe. You'll sweat in temps above 50. Up here in NC it's all we wear in the winter months

      @AdventuresofHappyOurs for some reason I was thinking North Captiva.
      Doc Fords in Captiva is pretty good.
      That area, at certain times of year, there are a bunch on manatees and dolphins.
      Hard to find a parking spot during "tourist season" (on land).

      @AdventuresofHappyOurs you all need to spend the night at Caya Costa, when it warms up.
      Go to get a burger at Cabage Key for lunch, and spend the night at Caya Costa again.
      It is "perfect".
      When we get are new place built in the NW Cape, get our dock, and new boat; hopefully we can get together.

      BTW - The marina at the South of North Captiva used to be a great place to have lunch. We haven't been there since the hurricane.
      It was the last place to buy "beer" before going off shore to fish.
      We once traded some guys on a "shrimp boat", out there, 9 beers for 25 pounds of shrimp.

    • @AdventuresofHappyOurs
      @AdventuresofHappyOurs  5 місяців тому +1

      Nothing stripped. Boat is inspected upon pickup and any damages or missing electronics would have to be paid for. That being said they don’t have much. A gps and a stereo for the most part. Not even a vhf radio aboard.

    would you mind sharing what a job like that pays and also how much experience as a captain you have to have to get work like that> working on getting my OUPV now

    • @AdventuresofHappyOurs
      @AdventuresofHappyOurs  5 місяців тому +1

      Contrary to what you may hear, captains don’t get paid much. $20-30/hr is common for small tour boat companies. Private charters or boat transport can get you more ($50-75/hr). The larger the vessel and more experience, the more money.
      If you can get your OUPV, you already should have many years experience working boats. As with any job, it’s more who you know than what you know.
