Windy Weekend Anchoring at Sanibel Causeway

- Time for a short shake down cruise for the weekend on Happy Ours, our 341 Meridian sport bridge. We decide to anchor for the day off a picnic island near Cape Coral, dive under the boat and get some sun. Unfortunately, the winds are strong today so we weigh anchor and head to a more protected anchorage at the Sanibel Causeway.
We take our puppy Matey on the dinghy to the beach and have a small fire on the boat when we cook up some burghers on the bbq.
I always enjoy your shows! Thanks loads.
Have a great time!
Suggestion for when you start filming your big trip. Start the first episode with prepping the boat from inside the house to out. Show provisioning, starting her up, untying, and getting under way. Casual boaters would prob love that
Well do that!
Great job on video, loved the live show! 👍👍
Beautiful Sunset, thank you. Enjoy the paradise and be safe.
That causeway was a popular spot before Hurricane Ian. The big trees, a nice place to cook out, swim , enjoy the whole day there!
Yes we were fortunate to enjoy it before the hurricane. It’s needs work to get to its former glory.
Looks beautiful while it lasted
FYI. When I give a thumbs up on your great videos I check to make sure I'm still subscribed. For some reason I'm unsubscribe a lot of the time.
Love the videos.
That’s weird.
Awesome looking adventure. Great video.
Ok guys, I HAVE to know why it’s called “the miserable mile” - looks gorgeous! Coming from someone sitting in the drizzle and gloom of Washington state!
Traditionally the miserable mile was named that by sailors. It's a very narrow channel with strong cross currents that takes special attention and care on a sail boat with a keel to avoid running aground. It's made even more difficult by the large amount of traffic through that channel which creates waves and puts more pressure on a sailboat and limits where it can maneuver.
Interestingly many people with power boats are now calling the no wake zone past big shell island the 'miserable mile' because it's an annoyingly long no wake zone. That stretch is just east of the old school miserable mile.
Great explanation. I know it well. We kept our 30 ft sailboat at Semmer's docks at FMB. When we would make the trip to FM we hated the miserable mile. Especially when windy on top of everything else.
@richardjohnson8114 👆what he said!
fun video
What happened to, "Red sky at night, sailors delight"?
I hope you watching Hurricane season because it’s starting early than June 3rd, 2024. Please Be Safe But have a good time.
I have a dumb question. Having only been to northern Florida, no worries about Gators on the west side of Florida? Especially when diving.
I’ve not heard of any in my area. It’s always in the back of my mind when diving.
I’m not an expert, but that being said dogs are territorial. This is the hard part, get another dog to go on the patch and then Matey might go on it just to erase the other dogs scent. That’s why dogs always going on hydrants .
Good idea! We know lots of dogs. Lol
May I ask how the recovery is going? I love Sanibel, Captiva, & Cayo Costa. This in my opinion is the most beautiful spot in Southwest Florida.
All is recovering. Still work to do but every island is getting there.
Why don't you have to display your registration numbers? Does it go by the size of the boat?
A US coast guard documented vessel does not display state registration numbers. Only vessels over 5tons can be documented with the Coast Guarf. You still need a state registration sticker for your boats state of residence.
Why paint the props? I never painted the props on any boat i have owned
To keep growth off them. Unfortunately the spinning prop and shaft wear the paint off very quickly.
