Man City have traditionally been on the lower-earning scale, compared to their city neighbours for example. With FFP (albeit I think the more strict rules only came into effect after City were already purchased) it is not realistic to suggest they were able to overturn that deficit so quickly without some shenanigans.
I remember them over spending then a member of the same royal family of sheikh mansour who owned Ethihad decided to sponsor the old city of Manchester stadium for the that exact amount. Hence, the emptihad was born. Not fishy at all...

La Liga used to be better when we got both strong Barça and Madrid, Valencia, Deportivo giving a lot of trouble to those two(back then it was way harder to win la liga) and sometimes teams like Atletico, Athletic and Villarreal doing awesome seasons. Now it's just become Barça and Madrid fighting for it while Atletico keeps its 2nd or 3rd place depending on how those two do. These three can Compete in Europe for obvious reasons, but the other teams who aren't Colossus can't keep their players if they do a good season or two, just look at the majority of players who composed Barça and Madrid, they are the best players of the other teams

In belgian law there is something called the 'legalityprinciple'. Everything in law must be writen down, even the punishments provided when their are breashes of the law. Interesting when you apply this to the case. You could argue: 'How is it fair that Man City could get punished when the punishments are decided on the spot by some people.'

No, because that's not how it works. City could get stripped of titles, but no one will be retroactively awarded them. The only top league instance of a team being retroactively awarded a title after the winners were stripped of it was Inter Milan in 05/06, but that was only possible because the season had just finished 2 months earlier, and they hadn't even started the next season. There's no precedent for teams to be awarded a title years later, or even halfway through the next season, otherwise Inter would have also been awarded the 04/05 title as well (which was left vacant).

Teams missed out on ucl,eul, FA, league Cup positions etc which all carry financial bonuses. The other teams in the Prem should be getting reimbursement for lost revenue in them years. This is my thoughts in a way. There's a reason why rulebooks should not be vague and grey and uncertain. While not the same sport look at Formula One, rules applied so unevenly depending on in-sport political repercussions, imagine this but there's actually real political repercussions. What's to say the panel won't go "Well City are huge, lets make an example and be overly harsh" or "City are huge, hold a lot of sway in this country for promoting football, we cant be too hard on them.." its such a grey, murky, unclear water that should (in my opinion) be cleared up. Imagine if a player slides in from behind, clatters the legs out of a defender without the ball and the ref goes "Welllllll... Since he's not involved in actual play... He's totally in his rights to clatter that fridge out of the way."

It's not so much that they spent so much money at this point. It's the backroom deals that they DIDN'T reveal when they went about their business. It's horrible.
That's why traditional super clubs like Madrid, Barca, Juve etc wants super league. EPL is basically a super league, where financial doping is legally allowed through various legal loopholes. Recent eg. What Chelsea has done. Wenger in 2010s has said that the loopholes will make the FFP toothless. Strip the titles of City, and relegate them. It should be an examplary punishment so that clubs do not commit financial doping again.

It would be a big positive on the league’s reputation if they enforce harsh punishments on City. It immediately silences the critics that have been saying how lenient the league has been to state owned clubs and there’ll now be a feeling that the other teams are gonna straighten up their books cause the league is taking this serious.

If found guilty simply exclude them from Premier League for a number of years. Say exclude them for 5-years and they would only be allowed back in if they win promotion after that period has ended and their account for period they were out of EPL have been fully audited. Can't see retrospective punishment because were do you stop. Do you award league titles, what about FA cups and League cup. Also, what about teams finishing 5th that might have got into Champions League and so were denied the money that come from that competition.
Ffp was brought in to prevent midtable teams from competing with already established teams already making massive revenues, who can spend as much as they like.
They should never have been allowed to obstruct the PL’s investigations in the way they have over the years. If the PL want your documentation it should be either hand it over or see you in the Championship.

Sure there's a point. The players and fans might not get that immediate celebration, but the record books would list someone else as legitimately (as far as we know) the best in the country that season. And particularly for Liverpool and Man U, a few more strokes on the bigger picture.

Let’s be honest here, most teams in the epl don’t follow the same financial rules as teams in mainland Europe anyway, which is why english fans were the ones the most against the super league, they’re afraid to play under the same circumstances and financial restrictions as other teams in Europe and want things to stay as they are, where a team like Chelsea is allowed to spend more in a transfer window than most of the main leagues in Europe combined.

Such lazy journalism to compare the Juve calciopoli scandal, olymypic medals, Lance armstrong etc where the on field sporting fairness was directly compromised through the influencing of referees or performance enhancing drugs. A better comparison is the current Juve situation where they have only been punished with a points deduction and not stripped of titles retrospectively, that would open a can of worms over prize money and results.
Will be interested to see if the English footballing authorities apply the rules in the same firm way that the Scottish authorities did when Glasgow Rangers were found to be guilty of financially cheating and made to start again in the lowest league in Scotland and only narrowly escaped being thrown out of football completely. The Scottish situation was arguably very unfair to the fans of the Glasgow club but rules are rules.

Why are you surprised by this. Its quite common practice for high level staff in international companies. They use Hong Kong for this.

In belgian law there is something called the 'legalityprinciple'. Everything in law must be writen down, even the punishments provided when their are breashes of the law. Interesting when you apply this to the case. You could argue: 'How is it fair that Man City could get punished when the punishments are decided on the spot by some people.'
I don't know if you realise this but Manchester isn't in Belgium, so Belgian law doesn't apply. So you could argue that, but you'd be wrong and kinda silly

The amount of top quality players that man city could have bought with legit money would have been close to none.
No, because that's not how it works. City could get stripped of titles, but no one will be retroactively awarded them. The only top league instance of a team being retroactively awarded a title after the winners were stripped of it was Inter Milan in 05/06, but that was only possible because the season had just finished 2 months earlier, and they hadn't even started the next season. There's no precedent for teams to be awarded a title years later, or even halfway through the next season, otherwise Inter would have also been awarded the 04/05 title as well (which was left vacant).
@metalswifty23 what about the teams that placed a spot lower than they would have done if City hadn't cheated? Teams missed out on ucl,eul, FA, league Cup positions etc which all carry financial bonuses. The other teams in the Prem should be getting reimbursement for lost revenue in them years. Liverpool could have been championed multiple times during their drought as City cheated.

This is my thoughts in a way. There's a reason why rulebooks should not be vague and grey and uncertain.
While not the same sport look at Formula One, rules applied so unevenly depending on in-sport political repercussions, imagine this but there's actually real political repercussions. What's to say the panel won't go "Well City are huge, lets make an example and be overly harsh" or "City are huge, hold a lot of sway in this country for promoting football, we cant be too hard on them.." its such a grey, murky, unclear water that should (in my opinion) be cleared up.
Imagine if a player slides in from behind, clatters the legs out of a defender without the ball and the ref goes "Welllllll... Since he's not involved in actual play... He's totally in his rights to clatter that fridge out of the way."
There is a big difference though in that the prem is self governing

It's not so much that they spent so much money at this point. It's the backroom deals that they DIDN'T reveal when they went about their business. It's horrible.
They should get doping out of football. A stain on the sport nobody talks about yet it is everywhere.
That's why traditional super clubs like Madrid, Barca, Juve etc wants super league. EPL is basically a super league, where financial doping is legally allowed through various legal loopholes. Recent eg. What Chelsea has done. Wenger in 2010s has said that the loopholes will make the FFP toothless. Strip the titles of City, and relegate them. It should be an examplary punishment so that clubs do not commit financial doping again.
Ironic you mention Juventus when they’re one of the most scandalous clubs in history- dating back pre-2009 when Manchester City was even founded!

Cheating is cheating. No fine will make them change or cause them to grow a conscience overnight. There is a precedent in sport, there needs to be consequences. Revoke the titles.
It would be a big positive on the league’s reputation if they enforce harsh punishments on City. It immediately silences the critics that have been saying how lenient the league has been to state owned clubs and there’ll now be a feeling that the other teams are gonna straighten up their books cause the league is taking this serious.

If found guilty simply exclude them from Premier League for a number of years. Say exclude them for 5-years and they would only be allowed back in if they win promotion after that period has ended and their account for period they were out of EPL have been fully audited. Can't see retrospective punishment because were do you stop. Do you award league titles, what about FA cups and League cup. Also, what about teams finishing 5th that might have got into Champions League and so were denied the money that come from that competition.
Ffp was brought in to prevent midtable teams from competing with already established teams already making massive revenues, who can spend as much as they like.

Let’s be honest here, most teams in the epl don’t follow the same financial rules as teams in mainland Europe anyway, which is why english fans were the ones the most against the super league, they’re afraid to play under the same circumstances and financial restrictions as other teams in Europe and want things to stay as they are, where a team like Chelsea is allowed to spend more in a transfer window than most of the main leagues in Europe combined.
Is there a rule how much money a sponsor or the owner can put in a club? if not the Abu Dhabi United Group could put so much money in to even to books?! It sounds more as if kindergarten kids are in charge of the financials

Such lazy journalism to compare the Juve calciopoli scandal, olymypic medals, Lance armstrong etc where the on field sporting fairness was directly compromised through the influencing of referees or performance enhancing drugs. A better comparison is the current Juve situation where they have only been punished with a points deduction and not stripped of titles retrospectively, that would open a can of worms over prize money and results.

Will be interested to see if the English footballing authorities apply the rules in the same firm way that the Scottish authorities did when Glasgow Rangers were found to be guilty of financially cheating and made to start again in the lowest league in Scotland and only narrowly escaped being thrown out of football completely.
The Scottish situation was arguably very unfair to the fans of the Glasgow club but rules are rules.
