    I am obsessed with India, I literally cry whenever Ive seen documentaries, etc., for the past decade I feel called to go there, be of service in an ashram..this has been a vision for a very very long time and now your videos because they are SO informative have me on course to put things in motion. Do you leave from Los Angeles and when is your next trip there? I'd like to go in October 2018. I live in Ohio want to travel with someone who's well traveled at least to travel there with and get me/travel to Rishikesh.

    Awesome video! I found your channel about 3 months ago and I really should thank you/blame you as me and my girlfriend just handed our notice in at work. January 7th we fly out to Nepal and will spend the entire year travelling the world. Jaipur is definitely on the list and this video is great, as well as the older videos for Anjuna and Gokarna etc, they are so helpful.
    Keep up the amazing work!

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  6 років тому +1

      Cool!!! But why are you're going to Nepal in January? Because that isn't really trekking season. You might be able to do the Lantang trek, I did it in February. Problem is it was badly damaged in the 2015 earthquake and I'm not sure exactly what the situation is with it now. Any of the other treks would be really miserable because it will be so cold. Or are you just planning to visit Kathmandu and Pokhara? It's still possible during winter, just not ideal for trekking. Anyway you will definitely have an incredible time.

    • @yanceyboyz
      @yanceyboyz 6 років тому

      Gabriel Traveler We will be visiting Kathmandu but predominantly going to do the Jiri to EBC Trek, my friends did it in January due to less crowding and low precipitation...however it is supposed to be super cold! I’m from the U.K. so miserable weather will help me feel at home right? haha. I totally forgot about Pokhara, we are extending our visas anyway so going to add this to the list and rewatch the crazy bus ride video now!

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  6 років тому +1

      Cool. Yeah I would expect it will be crazy cold but the views will be magnificent and less people for sure. I have to admit, that's pretty tempting, hmmmmm.

      Cow Dung Channel I am on a strict low carb diet. Lost 149 pounds since April 14th 2017. Do not want to sacrifice my progress. Plus I essentially cured by diabetes. Traveling to India will not be used to experience the food. As much as I want to. My health gains are more important as I will bringing with me a lot of nuts... Which the person at Indian embassy here Canada said was ok to bring. So hopefully I will avoid the shits.

      I think the Kiwis I work with in Sydney seam to have a different opinion. The truth is that the issues in India mostly come from British values imposed on them after all the Indians were successful before colonisation and are slowly regaining their former stature.

    @Bindallawassociates 6 років тому

    absolutely incorrect. it is difficult to find a decent hotel in jaipur for less then 50 dollar. A 3 star hotel will cost 100 dollar. He is moving in threewheeler. if u move in taxi, it is quiet expensive. Food is also not so cheap. Depends where u eat. if u go to restaurant , one time meal costs around 8 dollar.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  6 років тому

      You can find lots of nice rooms for much less than $50 throughout India. But I guess it depends on what you expect. 3-5 star hotels will be more expensive.

    It depends completely on what type of comfort u prefer, if u are middle class prefer Ac 1/2/3 tier trains, if u are poor & cant afford to travel prefer sleeper class non AC trains. If u want to explore India soon prefer Air ways and travel all Tourist places. U cant see Entire india in 1 trip Anyway. Even indians do some 4 ,5 trips to see entire india. preferably install Ola & Uber and use try some state tourist busses which can cover maximum tourist places worth knowing.

    Just google the minimum wage of any country and how much people make and you know what is your budget unless you arrive as a tourist then the sky is the limit. That is my advise of 40 years of travel, after all if a local can live on $1 a day you can surely do that for $5 a day maybe ten dollars with transport. Just ask yourself are you a traveler or a tourist and then all becomes clear.

    • @FaceOfChief
      @FaceOfChief 6 років тому

      Al Saves what about accomodation? And how prices are usually different for tourists than locals. Minimum wage usually isn’t great living either. In America you’d be homeless.

    • @alsaves4435
      @alsaves4435 6 років тому

      It is much cheaper to live outside of the USA. rent a house for $50 a month and stay two weeks not $50 a night for tourists hotel prices.. I rent a house here on beach front property in Madagascar for $7 a month and that is a high price. Are you a traveler or a tourist.???????

    • @Mrkevi123
      @Mrkevi123 6 років тому +2

      Yeah. I try to only go to tourist spots just to see the sights but do all the shopping and eating and stay where the locals live. So much cheaper this way.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  6 років тому +10

      There's a big difference between finding an apartment somewhere, staying long-term, cooking for yourself, etc. and traveling around a country. If you're going to travel around India then realistically you should expect to spend $20-30 per day, and that's keeping things pretty simple as far as accommodation and food. Budget hotels, but not the bottom of the barrel. You can certainly do it cheaper, I showed that in my $10 a day in India video. I've had rooms for as cheap as $1, and that one was pretty nice actually (special deal in Jaisalmer, because then they try to sell you a camel safari). People watching this video will be a wide range from budget backpackers to tourists on holiday. Fortunately, I don't have to scrape by on the smallest budget like every other time I've been to India. The super cheap hotels in India can be really skanky. And prices are going up especially in the touristy places. So it just depends on what you're planning to do with your time here. You can find a room in a more obscure location for dirt cheap and keep it simple, but you can also travel pretty well for very cheap compared to anywhere else in the world.

    That was great. Brought back memories of my trip to Jaipur back in 2008. Nice city, amazing decor and gets amazingly hot. Did a cricket tour and the team selected played on the RCA ground next to Sawai Mansingh stadium. Looking forward to the video of Pushkar camel fair. Kind Regards, Pratish

    Hi Gabe, I think I remember you saying that you might go to Rishikesh to chill for a while? If so try to make it to Orchha, that place is really beautiful and chilled out. Good for a stop on the way to Khajuraho, Varanasi etc.

    That $4.40 snack would have $24.40 in Iceland. Thank God you didn't stay long there. Great to see you back in a place which is so alive and full of imagination, and not just a lot of people mooching about a high street looking miserable

    not a bad choice of hotel , the Sikh runs a good place, i sometimes eat at his rooftop restaurant, however my guest house costs about $7......as for street food the best place to get samosas is kachori rasta where you can eat giant hot freshly cooked samosas for 10 rupees each. ......best dinner is chicken tikka at moti mahal normally runs around 240 rupees with lal kanda, garlic rotis and nimbu pani.

    What an utterly beautiful location. The Amber Fort. Too bad there isn't some sort of groundskeeper crews that keep potted plants and flowering vines and fruiting trees throughout the place as I imagine it would have been during its heyday. I'm thinking the courtyard garden is a good indication. Amazing preservation particularly considering people get to walk up to and touch at their leisure.

    600 rs for Tuk Tuk rickshaw. not worth. Next time if someone charge you on roadside, just make that amount divided by 2 and bargain. Even if you try to move away from the location, they will end up with agreeing the amount. but yes carry google map also with you. Or you may take OLA Cab or UBER if available.

    $66 for a whole day of travelling, food, hotel and bus trip for the next day. Thats how much a taxi from the airport cost us here in Australia. The different entry prices for the fort were unjust, why have different prices, either make it free for locals and others pay entry but overcharging doesnt seem right.

    For 600, you could've got a cab with ac. The rickshaw guy conned you. You should ask the hotel receptionist how much fare you should pay. Or just use Uber or Ola. Or hire a cab from a reputed taxi service.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  6 років тому +1

      I asked the receptionist about the price, and he said 400-500. So I was fine with 600, it's a difference of a dollar or two.

    I enjoyed your video. I think you're doing a good thing. A little suggestion/experiment: if you look at the male Indian tourists and local men around you, none are wearing a singlet or sleeveless top. Why is that?
    It's because dressing as well as you can in India is a social norm. It would be interesting to consider if the times you dressed in a button up, collared shirt has subtlety changed your reception by the locals. I don't think people should be judged by the clothes they wear, but I think it's important to acknowledge local norms.
    Keep up the good work.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  6 років тому

      Thanks. I hear you on that. The thing to keep in mind is the intense heat. They're used to walking around in 40 celcius temperatures in long shirts and pants. For me it can feel suffocating even wearing a t-shirt. So I'm going for comfort over style.
