His foundation is in brazilian rhythms... that's why he's so versatile in the groove. As a teenager, he won an award from drummer Vera Figueiredo, a top specialist in brazilian rhythms and groove drumming. Later, his coach was Aquiles Priester (former drummer with Angra). It was with Priester that he developed skills such as playing all the notes very clearly and precisely, swivel technique on the double pedal and absurd discipline in keeping tempo. Priester is to drumming as an Asian is to martial arts. Eloy inherited these characteristics. The brutality of his playing is something inherent in Eloy himself, his trademark!
Derek Roddy fits that description too IMO, although he probably wouldn’t be the right fit for slipknot
Not taking anything away from Eloy who is fantastic, but check out Chris Turner. Hardest hitting drummer ive ever heard.

I hadn't quite understood Jay's dismissal and replacement by Eloy, after watching/listening to Slipknot's performances with Eloy behind the kit I thought to myself: Ok, now I understand.
Yeah, I love Jay and he is insanely good drummer. But Eloy brought the energy that Slipknot needed. This performance was the closest it has ever been to the time when Joey was still in the band.

Well this comes from a phone recording in the crowd, and there was plenty of PA sound there, so you hear both the acoustic sound of drums and the sound of the drums from the PA FOH mix ...
it is a crap sound extracted from the original. they sounded nothing like this paper bag with a pillow over it sound. It isn't good in any way.

If anything, it sounds like multiband gated drums.

No drummer has ever had a better meter when playing live. Eloy is a human metronome … SLIPKNOT’s living, breathing click track.
He is just like this because in brazilian rythms and even some indigenous sound you should “understand” and “feel” music and rythm, so metronome are not allowed at all. And he dominated it.

Eloy completely reinvigorated Sepultura and their last album was their best since the Cavalera days. I'm sure Slipknot thought they could have some of that when they heard Sepultura was retiring.

I could easily enjoy Iowa just as much if it was just drums. Joey was a beast with so much talent. I am excited about Eloy. The whole throw back thing is a great idea. Being an old school knot fan i greatly appreciate it. I havent been excited about a slipknot release in awhile. Thats changed...

Jay brought the intensity back to Slipknot. Those 10 years he was in the band were incredible. Especially a lot of the live setlists during the Gray Chapter era. Playing Metabolic, Skin Ticket, and many other Iowa deep cuts is amazing. Eloy has some massive shoes to fill, and he's doing a great job. I'm happy Slipknot got someone who are just as creative as Joey and Jay. 🤘🏻
