I do exactly this right now for Amazon. He’s driving a “hostler” (same as what I drive). Amazon does not require a CDL for operating these because we never leave the truck yard with them and get on the roadways. Just yard moves. We ARE required to have a CDL-A if we move any of these trailers between building sites though. Third party drivers (non-Amazon) carry our trailers on long distance runs, not us. Coming up on Prime Week. Bout to get busy busy!
I always thought hostling looks like a lot of fun. I'm a locomotive engineer for BNSF railroad out of Los Angeles, and when I'm yarding a train at our intermodal yard it's fun to watch all the hostlers scurrying around my train. If i ever stop railroading I'll probably work as a hostler.
we have a rental yard dog that comes in for service every 3 months and all my coworkers call me crazy for preferring that to move trailers in and out for service. its awesome not having to work the landing gear and getting a super tight turn radius since our lot gets very packed overnight
Maybe the cab roof and door could be a bit higher so the shunt driver doesn't need to duck when exiting and re-entering the cab each time he does a drop and hook?
Bro I stumbled across your channel i assume algorithm cuz I watch allot of trucking channels, 😅 But I got some questions how do I get a job like your ? Is a cdl and experience required, or do places like where you work at train? what is the starting salary ? What state are you in, or work in ? I currently live in Germany but plan on moving back to America and I wanna get into trucking only problem is I'm a single parent so I really can't 😢 but a job like yours I definitely could! It would be cool if you could give me some pointers I'd appreciate it man I wish you many blessings ✌🏻
One thing I do know is that you don't need a cdl to do this job, being that there on the company's property doing it, and not on the road. And I don't know if it's the case for every company, but I thought I heard that they do train you at least on how to use the tractor. Am kind of tempted to get this job myself if there's a company like that anywhere near us. 😂👍
The A/C does work on this one, thankfully. I work in the building next to the one I'm in once a week in a different truck, and that truck doesn't have A/C. It can be brutal on hot days
I definitely made more as a driver, but I just got sick of 14-hour days, staying out multiple days, health concerns, winter driving, and having no time for anything else besides trucking. Being a spotter gives me a more balanced life.
Not to discourage anyone from wanting to be a trucker. I know many truck drivers who love their jobs. Truckers are the backbone of the country. It just wasn't for me anymore.

Im starting my first yard job Monday cant wait to sleep in my own bed every night! thanks for the vids man
Good luck man! Let me know how you like it
Good stuff dude hope you keep making vids
Nice to be back
I moved a few trailers around with one of these when I was doing furniture delivery and the truckers blocked us in lol I was 18 years old
is this the DHL in Aurora IL?
Great skills…. You make it look easy, but I know it isn’t. 😎👍
The truck makes the difference. They're extremely maneuverabile. My truck can't manage turns anywhere near close to what that truck can do.
It would be hard for me to get use to marking trailer moves down on a piece of paper vs a tablet, I'll tell you what. 😂👍
Yea I hadn't done a paper list in a while. The tablet is definitely better.
Do you work at an Americold ? I recognize the office set up in the middle of the building
It's a DHL building. 2 buildings next to me are also DHL and have the same setup.

@@RubenKaztiyo thanks brother
Does your yard mule have AC? I usually leave the back door open in good weather.

U need a CDL for this im assuming??
No
Some companies hire non CDL spotters. They either require you to have experience or they will train you.
why did u choose to be a yard driver as opposed to be on the road as a truck driver.? is the pay higher?

I thought you would show POV hatcam
Yea, I haven't done those in a while. I'll try to make some more POV videos in the future
