I can't stress enough that you need to be extremely careful if you attempt to remove a scratch yourself. Especially if you decide to use one of the first three methods.
These methods take experience and knowledge to safely remove without causing more damage to your vehicle's paint.

So in theory, you should buff your scratches a little before you fill them with either clear or color, to get the edges to blend better?

Yes! That was one thing I did leave out. Sanding the scratch back a bit will give you room to blend paint and clear coat (if you're using touch up paint with a separate clear coat component).
I have a plan to do a video on this. I just need a vehicle to come into the shop that would make a good example.
