Dave was adopted and went to have a heart for children without families. He gave much time and money to help these children, his daughter Wendy now owns and runs the business. Dave passed away a few years ago. Naming the food after her Dad is a tribute to him.
Theirs is a BEAUTIFUL story that lives on doing so much good. God bless Dave Thomas' stellar memory, family, ministry, and the remarkable legacy he left behind.
So Wendy does own about 30 locations, but after a google search, she does not run the business. Obviously it is publicly traded on the stock market, but she doesn’t even on a majority stake.
The story behind the chili was actually pretty ingenious. Dave had a lot of patties and the end of the day that were getting tossed away. To avoid the loss he cut up the meat and the chili was born. Dave Thomas was a really important figure in the fast food industry and did a lot of charity work while he was alive.
Okay, that’s hilarious because I remember someone trying to make a big ol’ expose of the fact that the chili was made of yesterday’s burgers. I mean… yeah, of course it is, lol.
My school lunch ladies did the same thing.. Hamburgers on Monday.. Lasagne or loose meat sandwhiches on tuesday or wednesday and chili on friday. lol all the same meat from Monday lol
Always remember the baked potatoes being a creamier texture than ones you could make at home. Wendy's was a place I went to in HS, and I often just got the baked potato! 😅
The only thing that bummed me out was in the late 80's Wendy's changed it's hamburgers to be more like Burger King - I loved Wendy's burgers more than BKs.
Dave was a wonderful person and philanthropist. He spent his life helping homeless people and donated millions of dollars in the Columbus ohio area. He also focused efforts towards helping children
Former Wendy's employee- can confirm the beef patties weren't ever frozen at the one I worked at. And the baked potatoes are a *ridiculously* popular side choice; you wouldn't think it, but yeah, they sling baked potatoes out of the door all the time, even in America.
I worked as a manager at Wendy’s in college (1992) Dave also gave $5k to any manager adopting a child because Wendy was adopted and he absolutely adored children.
Dave was adopted. Whereas Wendy was his fourth child. Part of the reason for the cash. Was that his adopted parents had a bit of cash problems while he was growing up.
the fact that they didn't try any nuggets is an ABSOLUTE TRAVESTY, Wendy's nuggets hit SO HARD they're literally like the best fast food chicken nugget, plus the spicy nugs are absolute fire and let's not even mention the nug and frosty combo
The reason Dave is so fond of his daughter is because he was adopted. He was proud of having a family and proud of his daughter. He wanted to make sure that his child in the namesake honor and other children in general did not feel abandoned and in fact, were honored and cared for, which was a major driver behind his philanthropy on adoption.
The $1 chili and $1 Caesar salad they used to have was a college girl's dream! Cheap, semi healthy, low-carb, and good. My sister and I used to eat there a couple of times per week while working our way through college!
I was a manager at Wendy's in Michigan so I was able to meet Dave many times. He was just a wonderful person and loved hearing from his employees. His daughter, Melinda, is who Wendy's is named after. Glad you enjoyed the food.
i miss the old 420 meal from wendys! used to eat at one in wixom across street from ford plant! FYI any who dont know in MI its 6 cent tax... so any 99 cent item was exactly 1.05, so any 4 items 4.20 so the 420 meal was born! great time too! 2 jr bacon cheeseburgers a pack of nuggies and a drink!
I can confirm that the baked potato is a staple at most all Wendy's restaurants in the USA as well! Ollie's observation that the baked potato is something they keep on the menu because they've always done it is absolutely spot on - people would be upset if they stopped carrying it I'm sure! Great episode, you guys 🥰
Not sure if this was already commented on, but the chili was a result of Dave Thomas not wanting to throw away uneaten burgers. There was too much waste; he found it unacceptable.
I'm a General manager for Wendy's here in the US and just got home from a 14 hour shift thinking I'll relax with some YT before bed and the 1st video on my feed is this🤣😭 I didn't know if I should laugh or cry. We literally serve all this and it looks the same. Oh except we are serving strawberry frosty instead of vanilla for summer and next week starts the pumpkin frosty. I do wish we had that container for baconator fries tho!
Dave Thomas is a fascinating character. He actually designed the early KFC franchises including the signature KFC bucket. The reason he left KFC and started Wendy's from scratch is also a fascinating story.
As an American living in the U.K., I have been lobbying Wendy’s for 16 years to come here. I drove to Reading when the first store opened!!! I really hope they make it!
As an American, Wendy's improved the quality of their ingredients a lot over the last 10 years or so, also pretty sure every item you had is on the US menu
I would say this Wendy's does look better than most in the US though. Not that ones in the US are bad, but the interior of that place looked spotless, so you can probably expect the GM of Wendy's UK put a lot of emphasis on making sure US fast food is represented well.
What??? Their burgers were changed almost twenty years ago. They used to be really good. They absolutely suck now. I won't eat one unless you give it to me for free. I am serious- They are that bad. I can eat the "chili"(pretty good for spaghetti sauce with beans) and the Frosty. That's IT for Wendy's, man.
I was under the impression that most people think Wendy's has declined over the years. Maybe it's just rose-colored glasses of my memories as a kid, but I think it tastes less "fresh" than 20 years ago.
@@claycassin8437 if they suck that means you have terrible cooks. i live 5 blocks from wendys and it became my favoorite fast food(non taco bell) place......the thing i like about wendys is that their valuve menu isnt a lower grade beef. the only thing thats different is the cheap chicken sandwich but thats expected
I came to the comments to make sure the baked potato wasn't misunderstood and it made me strangely happy to see so many people vouching for it already 😂
my heart breaks every time i too late at night and they’re out of baked potatoes. love wendy’s, would rather go there than other fast food burger joints
Loaded baked potato and a cup of chili is childhood comfort for me... I love the winter with a light snow sitting in the drive through knowing I'm about to get a delicous loaded baked potato and delicous chili...
@@LancerX916 She is a huge shareholder which is basically being in charge, and no she is not the CEO or president but they still have a huge say as shareholders.
I lived in England for 4 months right out of college/uni and I craved a Wendy's Frosty the entire time. I landed for my layover in Newark airport and my gate was directly across from a Wendy's. I nearly cried. I stood in line for 20 minutes to order and asked for the largest chocolate Frosty in the largest container they could legally give me. I ate every bit of it and regretted nothing.
Love how you guys are concerned about the Frosty's melting. No, that's just the consistency of a Frosty. It kind of sits right in between a milkshake and soft serve ice cream.
Wendy's went through a big change-up in their kitchen a few years ago. They commissioned a comparison study, and found out customers ranked their burgers very low against other fast food chains. This caused them to freshen the ingredients for burgers and salads. So yes, they are baking as though they have something to prove. :)
The beef chili is actually a staple in America, in the winter me and my family would go and get a baked potato and chili to warm ourselves up as a nice treat
Wendy's is just that good everywhere, actually. They're my favorite fast-food place in the US, they're known for consistent quality and items not typically seen on a fast food menu (yes, we've had the baked potato for decades lol). As for Ollie's comment about Dave, he was a sweet man! If it's any consolation, Wendy owns like 30 locations and has a net worth of about $100mil 😅😂 and she's the spokesperson of the company!
Agree. My only gripe is that every Wendy's near me is glacialllyyyyyyyy slow, lol. I mean its worth it bc the food tastes so much better than McDonalds or Burger King. But damn, sometimes I'm just like "y'all....we can't in good faith call this fast food anymore, just sayin"
It’s literally the only major fast food chain I can even eat anymore. So that doesn’t count Chipotle which is solid, can get a decently healthy burrito bowl. Subway is horrific AF. BK, Taco Bell, etc. all horrible IMO. I don’t really count 5 guys as fast food bc they don’t have a drive through here. They have solid burgers and fries. Shake Shack doesn’t count to me either, there’s not rly one near me, but the few times I’ve had it I’ve always sat down to eat it so idk if they have a drive thru. McDonald’s legit makes me physically ill. Idk how ppl eat it, it’s like poison lol. Oh and Chik Fil A, that’s great, but the closest one to me is like 30mins away. I’m a big grilled chicken sandwich guy for sure.
In the 1980s, Wendy's had an advertisement of an elderly woman chiding other fast food burgers with the phrase "Where's the beef?", implying that only Wendy's has a burger with a substantial size of beef. So Josh's assessment is correct...Wendy's burgers are hefty!
LOVE Wendy's spuds- they have plain, broccoli and cheese, and chili with cheese versions, and are very popular !! The chili is made from the burgers that weren't used the day before, because Wendy's doesn't use frozen beef. It's a way not to waste food. Pretty decent for fast food chili :) Wendy was Dave's adopted daughter, and he worked to help kids get adopted, also starting a foundation for adoption. I'm with Ollie on the chip/fry dunking thing... ketchup or ranch- not shakes/Frostys.
Do they still do the broccoli ones? I thought they stopped a while back. I miss the old days with the salad bar where you could get chips and nacho cheese.
You missed the Wendy's Super Bar era. It was essentially a buffet with salads, different pastas/sauces, garlic bread etc.. It was amazing. Wendy's has always had the baked potato as a menu staple.
My husband and I were talking about that a couple of days ago. I loved the salad, the potato bar (or just toppings - I can’t remember) and tacos, my favorite!
@@jessharvell1022 actually, the irony of your comment is that the garlic bread back then would have been made with real wholesome ingredients and would have been good for you despite being a little high on the calorie side. TODAY if they brought back that bread it would be made of hot garbage
Yes, Wendy's is that good in the US. A piping-hot sour cream and chives potato (with optional cheese) and a large serving of their chili hits pretty nicely on a chill day -- or, heck, even in the middle of the summer, as long as there's air conditioning. Glad to see you guys enjoyed it so much!
I agree but the Wendy's chili here in the US doesn't look like the one they got? Wendy's traditional is the beef chili with thicker sauce. Also the Frosty, made correctly the spoon stands up in it.
Not sure why Ollie thinks we don't have baked potatoes in American Wendy's, but we do and our food from Wendy's looks just like what you got. Loving Josh's laugh.
I miss Dave. He was an amazing guy. Wendy's in the US is fantastic. For what's available in my area it's top tier here. Another small fact, it wasn't called Dave's double or any of the other Dave's items until after he passed
Sadly my locals Wendy's locations have gone hard downhill in the last few years. Orders are never right, burgers are dry, fries are limp. The only thing that hans't changed is the Frosty, it's really sad.
Yes, Wendy's is actually good here in the U.S. Yes, Josh is doing it right with dipping the fries in the frosty. Yes, the baked potatos are great! I think they're popular because you can sorta customize it to how you like it. You can order the sour cream & Chive option and add the chili, ask for cheese sauce on it as well! Yum! Also- the Cheesy Cheddar burgers are so underrated 😋
ive never seen anyone get my order. Daves triple burger with bbq sauce, chicken nuggets, 4 cookies, 2 diet cokes/coke zero, fries and a strawberry frosty. my 1 cheat meal per month. $34 each time
That awkward moment when Wendy's is exactly as good in the US, and the baked potato is also a famous side iconic to Wendy's. The quality is so consistent, just a really good business.
Typical British 🤨self-indulgent in their pompous attitude towards others! They just can't except the fact that Americans are better ☝️in every field ! 🤦♂️🎺🎷🎻🎹 I’m 🤜🤛🏿a Yankee doodle dandy! 🤣😂✌️
Really happy to see so many people talking about the business and their owners in such a positive light. Didn't know about the backstory of Wendy's at all! Need to go pay it a visit!
I was a Wendy's manager in the late 1980's in Clintonville, OH. Dave Thomas stopped in twice. We were an experimental store. Had Baskin Robbins ice cream, hot dogs and more. Dave Thomas paid for his meal and bought a meal for every employee there. I also trained at the original store on Broad Street in downtown Columbus, OH. Dave Thomas stopped in 3 times to offer encouragement. He wasn't able to get around very well at that time. Great guy.
In the mid 80s they had tested seasoned waffle fries. Of course, I tried to order them everywhere they weren't available. Not sure why they decided not to make them a permanent item since you couldn't get them elsewhere and now everyone has them.
Wendy's is by far the best fastfood chain in the US and Puerto Rico. He instilled pride in what they were doing in all his dmployees. He would visit each and every one of its locations, even the franchises, and chat with the employees, ask their opinion on what was working, what wasn't, and how it could be improved. He was a unique kind of man, and raised a unique kind of daughter. His legacy will live on.
Wendy’s will forever be a great place not just because the food is delicious, but because of the Man, the Myth, the LEGEND himself, Dave Thomas, who he was & what he stood for. SUCH a great man RIP
Josh is 💯 correct 👍 Dipping fries in a frosty (or melted soft serve depending on the fast food restaurant) is an American tradition. It’s not just his thing. 😂🙌
@@BroomTails There’s this individual is whose probably like “I’ve won, I’ve won”, this individual I believe… could have any obsession with ME…hopefully y’all rest this Christmas…😑😂
I used to work at Wendy’s and we actually sell a LOT of baked potatoes. You can add anything to them. Chili potato, sour cream and chive potato, ghost pepper ranch potato, the list goes on!
The chili has been around a while, but you should've gotten a couple of heat packets to pour into the chili making it ten times better. Also you needed just a simple jr bacon cheeseburger. It's probably one of the most ordered thing there.
I havent had fast food for years, but now I'm craving Wendys. Chili and baked potato used to be $1 in the 90's so it was the perfect high school dinner.
Those baked potatoes combined with the cup of chili and a scoop of cheese...pure perfection! It is the best lunch or dinner option from fast food places. I remember eating them when I was about 12 and living in South Carolina. Wendy's does make the best burgers hand up. The beef they use, the fact that the patty is thicker and the flavor of that wonderful combo of the beef and the fresh veg makes them a powerhouse. Wendy's across the country are always the best. Their across the board quality control is strictly upheld in every restaurant. Dave insisted in not only making his food taste better but in making sure that the customer would have the same high quality no matter what state they were in.
I worked as a cook at Wendy’s where the beef was not frozen however there were little white worms in the meat. I was forced to grill them up anyways because that was the only stock we had. Enjoy.
These 2 guys crack me up. I like to watch them try our American food and fast food as well. They both practically go into shock every time they taste a food item they've never had before. Glad they enjoy themselves on their visits here in the USA
Wendy's is one of the remaining good fast food joints in the US. And the fact that you guys immediately understood what to use the chili for was perfect. The chili is straight up a dipping sauce that doubles as a soup.
i used to work at wendy's and y'all are right, tomato and lettuce are prepared in store every morning as well as bacon! burgers are fresh meat (not pre cooked like other chains) also, plain baked potatoes are served in America, they're just more popular among older folks and usually ordered with a bowl of chili lol i would also recommend ordering vanilla frosty along with a cookie for dessert
I met Mr. Thomas, while he was alive. He was one of the nicest guys you would ever meet. What he has done for foster and adoption of children has been fabulous. Wendy's food is usually great, and spicy nuggets are awesome!
My husband was a goldsmith at Dave and his wife's favorite jewelry store. He made many custom pieces for them! My husband said Dave was so kind. Unfortunately, he passed because of heart disease.....
I can't believe you didn't like the chili. On a cold winter's day, a cup of chili and baked potato are absolutely perfect to have. Especially when you pour the chili over the potato. YUM! Warms a person right up.
I imagine they figured the chili was like English baked beans which are sweet. Probably expecting one flavor and got another. Funny thing is I'm not a big fan of Boston or English baked beans, so I do like the chili, particularly with the potato.
@@danmur2797I beg to differ. I think at least 70% of the UK must have eaten Chili at some point in their lives. Nobody would expect something like the baked beans sweet taste when they were going to have it. I make and eat it very regularly, and it can be purchased in any supermarket. It first became wildly known in the 80’s (we were pretty slow at catching on to world cuisine here😂), but everyone knows what it is.
I honestly dont think their chili is really it :/. Its just not that great, probably be my last choice out of the sides, But at that rate, I just wouldnt have one. BUT I did have one of the best spicy chicken sandwiches from wendys ive had in like 5 years(specifically from wendys, not the best in general). Went to my local mall and it was desolate, they must have been so bored, that they were stoked to fresh make me a sandwich. Muscle memory, I just went for a bite cause fast food is usually warm at best and almost burned my whole mouth off hahah. Reacted in time, then enjoyed maybe the freshest fast food chicken ive ever had hahaha.
I'm kind of surprised they didn't like the chili. It's pretty popular in the US, especially during the fall and winter months. The cup they had did look a bit thin. It tends to be really beefy as rather than throwing leftover burger patties away, they crumble them into the chili. Great way to keep from wasting food.
Josh said he really wasn't a chili fan in the first place, so maybe it isn't for the English palette?🤷🏼♀️ But I love a bowl of it over fries or their baked potato.
Love the chili! I remember when it was a Northern or Ohio-style recipe (no green chili pieces). When the more-Southwest version came about I fell even more in love with it. I never go a winter without a few cups.
gosh, that was so hilarious. Love how Ollie is a genius at making hilarious jokes and how Josh reacts to Ollie's jokes. I love their chemistry together.
Try it on their burgers, special fries and chicken sandwiches. I swear that chili sauce is seriously addictive and makes darn near everything taste even more amazing.
It definitely adds a little more "chiliness" to the spaghetti sauce with beans...not that I dislike their spaghetti sauce with beans. It's actually pretty good. Not chili.
The mother of a friend of mine was offered the chance to be an original investor with Dave Thomas, the founder of Wendy's, and her reaction was, "What do we need with another fast-food chain?" And btw, I ALWAYS order the baked potato when I go to Wendy's. Always. With just butter and sour cream. LOVE it. Glad you did this, and glad you enjoyed it.
I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, which is where Wendy's started, and my parents knew Dave Thomas. They invested and according to my father, made a pretty good return. Wendy's first restaurant had a terrible reputation at the beginning and I remember my sister getting sick there, but a few years later they turned it around and everyone started loving Wendy's food, including me. I went to Wendy's in Japan and their burgers are about 1/3 the size that you'd get in the US or UK.
Man the stories of missed opportunities make my head hurt. My dad's old boss had Garth Brooks working for him in the 80's. He had a chance to help him get his music career started and told him to shut up and get back to work. My dad brought it up and rubbed it in his face until the day he died.
I bet that woman is kicking herself everytime she passes a Wendy's. 😅 I've heard a similar story about a guy who didn't invest in Microsoft at the beginning. He could have had billions. 😮 💵💰💰💰💰
Also fun fact: Used to work at Wendy’s and the beef in the chili is the small Patties from the grill that don’t get used after so long, so they get tossed in a heated drawer and at the end of the night they get chopped up and bagged for the next morning when they make the batch of chili for the day
@@peterpain6625it’s why the chili exists. To use the leftover beef since they don’t freeze their patties. Put it on fries, baked potatoes or the taco salad. Yum!
The menu actually looks exactly like the American one. Including the sides and the quality. But I do generally hate myself after eating at Wendy's, because it's really heavy. But if you want a good chicken sandwich, get the Asiago Ranch one.
The Wendy's baked potato with sour cream and cheese and a bowl of their chili was a favorite of mine as a child, plus that a chocolate Frosty afterwards with fried dipped in. Sooo good! I have found memories of my dad and us kids have Wendy's chili on a family weekends where we were out running errands all day and we were hungry, so we'd pop into a Wendy's.
As someone who has tried fast food in nearly every state in the US, I can tell you that the quality is fairly standard, even over here. They put more emphasis on it as a company, so across all of the markets here, they tend to be around the best quality in every location. Not to say you can't find a bad one, but generally, if you want something a little more standardized, they are the go-to. P.S.. The chili is better later in the day when it has sat and let most of the water evaporate. Early in the day like this it is basically water soup.
So glad you liked Wendy’s. I like the smaller Bacon Cheeseburger and like their baked potato with sour cream amd chives. Their french fries are natural cut with skins on the ends. They recently added their Frosty dessert in Strawberry. I haven’t tried it. Dave Thomas was known and respected as a good man who helped Adoptions, and foster children. He passed away. He himself was adopted. I enjoyed your escapades! 🍔
The strawberry is very good, but every time they do a special flavor at my local Wendy's, they replace the vanilla with it and I get so sad because vanilla frosty is the best! ;n;
As a kid, I always loved my Wendy's fries with a chocolate Frosty. And my meal of choice was chicken nuggets, because their nuggets were actually delicious white meat and seasoned a lil spicy. Addictive.
Lol the baked potato is not a UK exclusive, it 100% originated at US Wendy’s 😁 The chili, the baked potato and the Frosty are the unique things about Wendy’s, along with their square burger patties
I'm British and I had Wendy's for the first time the other night. It's good. It definitely has that typical fast food burger feel to it, but the bacon in the baconator made it tasty.
I worked at Wendy's USA back in the early '00s. The baked potatoes were a virtually fool-proof menu item. They were easy to prepare and cook, and people didn't complain about them at all. We often sold out of baked potatoes after church on Sundays! The chili baked potato was very popular, too. My favorite was simple butter, sour cream, salt & pepper. Yummy!
Yeah, all their salads are so solid. It's the only fast food place on the level with McD's/BK/etc. where I actually consider the salad as a valid dinner option...
@ralphferley2602 Wendy's used to be my favorite 5+ years ago not so much now. Perhaps location? My favorite now is DQ & The Blizzard way better than Frosty. I'm East Coast & think Five Guys is overrated, fries skin on is a no & overpriced. Everyone has their preference tho.
@ralphferley2602 You're on point with Olive Garden. It used to be a good restaurant for a chain & pretty consistent. Last time I went was '21 & their fettuccine Alfredo was def frozen & very bland. I'll never go back. I prefer family owned Italian.
@ralphferley2602 Well there's a few in my area, they've been family owned & run for 50 years. Nothing better. It's comparable to a local family diner all towns have 'em. A chain can't come close.
@ralphferley2602the frostys are still good but the sizes changed. What used to be medium is considered large now. The potatoes are so-so and definitely not as big as these guys got
My favorite is the pretzel bacon, pub chicken sandwich that we have here in Texas at our Wendy’s. This is a direct description from Wendy’s website for the cheeseburger version of the sandwich. You can order it with crispy fried chicken or as a cheeseburger ❤ The Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger features a quarter-pound of fresh, never-frozen beef, warm beer cheese sauce, applewood-smoked bacon, smoky honey mustard, crispy fried onions, pickles, and a slice of muenster cheese on an extra soft pretzel bun. You can also get it as a double with two beef patties and a triple with three beef patties.
It's 21:30pm in my country and I have been in a constant anxiety attack for 11 hours straight now. It's an actual waking nightmare but Ollie's "sticking your fingers in your yoghurt" just destroyed me. I didn't expect that and I really, really needed to laugh today. Even for a second. The chili poured over a baked potato on a cold and rainy fall/winter day is really good. No, Wendy’s chili isn’t great and homemade chili will always be far better but when you are frozen from working in an icy office and slogging through slushy weather it hits the spot!
I love that Josh finished it with, “Or if there’s something else we should go back and try..” The answer to that is the spicy nuggs. Can’t go to Wendy’s without ordering the spicy nuggs. Best fast food nuggs in the game.
I remember having the Wendy’s baked potato a lot as a kid. And I remembered it being good. But I forgot about it and generally stopped eating fast food. But recently I got it again in my adult years and it’s still slaps so much. It’s weirdly creamier than any homemade baked potato I’ve ever had. Not necessarily softer but smoother???
A few notes from the States (I worked at Wendy's in High School) 1. This looked like a 'normal' Wendy's experience... Food looked like it does here. 2. We DO have plain Baked Potatoes (but people almost always get something else on them.) 3. You DO put the chili on the BP... like you thought about doing. 4. Try the chips 'fries' with the Chocolate Frosty!
According to Ollie, I must be the only person in the whole of the UK who religiously orders their chilli jacket potato instead of fries every damn time. I just love the humble potato. Great video as always guys! ❤
Nope. You're not the only one. I don't order the chili, but I always go for the baked potato side and skip the fries. Sometimes I also get the chili as a side, but adding in their hot sauce is key for me.

Dave Thomas was adopted.
Dave was adopted. Whereas Wendy was his fourth child. Part of the reason for the cash. Was that his adopted parents had a bit of cash problems while he was growing up.
I only had to Google to see that it was Dave who was adopted.
Wendy is his-and-his-wife’s biological daughter.
Omg, this is not true!!! Please stop!
the fact that they didn't try any nuggets is an ABSOLUTE TRAVESTY, Wendy's nuggets hit SO HARD they're literally like the best fast food chicken nugget, plus the spicy nugs are absolute fire and let's not even mention the nug and frosty combo
The spicy nuggets are the best!
only if they're spicy nuggets
I’d say they’re the best for the price but Chik-fil-a are better, imo… And if we’re talking tenders, no one touches Raising Cain’s.
Ditto. Next to Chick-fil-A, they're my favorite and have been since I was a child. I'd even pick them over McDonald's when I was little.
Must try: Spicy Nuggets dipped in a chocolate frosty!
Bro also had other kids too lol
I am also adopted and understand this completely.
The $1 chili and $1 Caesar salad they used to have was a college girl's dream!
Cheap, semi healthy, low-carb, and good. My sister and I used to eat there a couple of times per week while working our way through college!

As a former Wendys employee we were a pretty busy store and probably went through about 50-60 bake potatoes a day

Great with the chili on top
@beefallah That's what I'd get as a kid before going to the dollar movies, chili and a baked potato. Their dollar menu back then was great.
I like their baked potato. I used to have it when I was broke for lunch, sometimes just with sour cream and chives.
I don't think the potatoes exist in my Wendys
Yeah, sometimes in the winter the baked potato + Chili combination just hits. For sure a Wendy's staple.
I lived on Wendy’s baked potatoes through college. Life saver fo real
I think that's what made them stand out originally. The used to have three types I think.
WAY back when, Wendy's used to have a salad bar with some baked potato toppings too.
Same!
Wendy's used to be very good and it fell a lot. Some locations are good. My local one is truly terrible.

Loaded baked potato and a cup of chili is childhood comfort for me... I love the winter with a light snow sitting in the drive through knowing I'm about to get a delicous loaded baked potato and delicous chili...
I'd do that, or dip the spicy chicken sandwich in it. Of course, after about 5 packets of the hot chili sauce in the gold packets.

In the 1980s, Wendy's had an advertisement of an elderly woman chiding other fast food burgers with the phrase "Where's the beef?", implying that only Wendy's has a burger with a substantial size of beef. So Josh's assessment is correct...Wendy's burgers are hefty!

Try it on their burgers, special fries and chicken sandwiches. I swear that chili sauce is seriously addictive and makes darn near everything taste even more amazing.
it is a great addition yeah, but I think as far as a fast food chili goes, it also does pretty well on its own.
It definitely adds a little more "chiliness" to the spaghetti sauce with beans...not that I dislike their spaghetti sauce with beans. It's actually pretty good. Not chili.

Also fun fact: Used to work at Wendy’s and the beef in the chili is the small Patties from the grill that don’t get used after so long, so they get tossed in a heated drawer and at the end of the night they get chopped up and bagged for the next morning when they make the batch of chili for the day
Good to know. Better than throwing them out i guess.
😂 so glad I don’t work there no more
@@peterpain6625it’s why the chili exists. To use the leftover beef since they don’t freeze their patties. Put it on fries, baked potatoes or the taco salad. Yum!
Wendys is honestly just like that everywhere. It's so good.
I love that Josh said the spicy chicken burger looks like the picture and Ollie agreed. I’m glad Wendy’s is on their game in England
That is the most underrated fast food burger. It is so delicious!
I think I saw that they're doing a pumpkin spice version. For fall. Some special flavor for fall, and I think that's it.
The strawberry is very good, but every time they do a special flavor at my local Wendy's, they replace the vanilla with it and I get so sad because vanilla frosty is the best! ;n;
@@MorganMcCauley11 especially with those sea salt fries!
As a kid, I always loved my Wendy's fries with a chocolate Frosty. And my meal of choice was chicken nuggets, because their nuggets were actually delicious white meat and seasoned a lil spicy. Addictive.
Frosty and fries dipper here.
My family was big on doing their chilly, fries and frosty
Lol the baked potato is not a UK exclusive, it 100% originated at US Wendy’s 😁
The chili, the baked potato and the Frosty are the unique things about Wendy’s, along with their square burger patties
Yummy!
I feel like the container the baked potato was served in made it difficult to eat and not that appealing. It deserved better.
Dave has passed away and Wendy runs the company and the Dave's burgers are an homage to her father. Love Wendy's, here in the US. Love your channel!
Glad you enjoyed it for the most part. I love their baked potatoes! They also have really good salad options!
Every time I go to wendy's I'm going right for the salad menu and the baked potatoes, really satisfying
Yeah, all their salads are so solid. It's the only fast food place on the level with McD's/BK/etc. where I actually consider the salad as a valid dinner option...
I last went to the US 12 years ago and I've been craving another Wendy's burger ever since. They're so good.
Josh & Ollie are my favorite to watch🎉 They are always jolly & down to earth. The world needs their positive & funny energy🩵
We need a collab between Ollie & Wendy's Xwitter admin
Is that what we're calling it? Cuz im here for it
Isn't that Sarah Schauer? She used to be really funny, but now she's gone weird.
What the hell is xwitter
. It's Twitter gone X'ed
@@JonpaulGeeThat’s just what I call it, i haven’t seen anyone else use it. i’m just too lazy to either do Twitter (X) or Twitter/X
As an American, you have to dip your fries into the frosty! The sweet and salty really works together
@ralphferley2602bro you’re commenting on everyone who mentions the frosty lmao. they’re not that bad, you just live in a shitty area most likely lmao
I am from NY and was quite pleased when they added the baked potato. I always get them instead of fries. 😊
This is hands down my favorite fast food burger. They seem to rotate it out and I'm always excited when it comes back on the menu.
I LOVE THE pretzel bacon pub chicken, it's the best chicken sammie of any fast food right now.
This is a good one.
Good stuff
Wow, I'm literally hungry reading that description.
Thank you for being the light
Hey I have anxiety attacks too so I wanted to comment and say my thoughts are with you. I'm sorry you're experiencing such an intense event, it sounds really awful. Hope you come down the final wave soon and feel better ❤️❤️❤️
I’m going through the same thing rn for a while. I can agree it does help watching something that distracts you from overthinking. Praying you get through this soon. 🤍
Stay strong, buy some yogurt, and make the image real. :) (Whatever it takes to make it to daylight)
I have an anxiety disorder, and most nights I fall asleep to a JOLLY playlist because the sound of friendly/comforting voices and laughter help me relax enough to rest. Stay strong! It will get better. You are important. Take the time you need for yourself this week.💜
Panic attacks are not fun I hope you feel better .❤
The chili poured over a baked potato on a cold and rainy fall/winter day is really good. No, Wendy’s chili isn’t great and homemade chili will always be far better but when you are frozen from working in an icy office and slogging through slushy weather it hits the spot!
Not only do I put chili on my baked potato but on top of that I put sour cream.
Wendy’s has always been my favorite of the fast food chains in the US. She doesn’t miss!
Wendy’s baked potato has been a iconic brand uniqueness for decades. In USA it’s something that separates them apart
I love that Josh finished it with, “Or if there’s something else we should go back and try..” The answer to that is the spicy nuggs. Can’t go to Wendy’s without ordering the spicy nuggs. Best fast food nuggs in the game.
I love how Ollie is holding up the eating process and Josh is having none of it 😂
Ollie's commentaries and side stories are just as hilarious as always lol
I remember having the Wendy’s baked potato a lot as a kid. And I remembered it being good. But I forgot about it and generally stopped eating fast food. But recently I got it again in my adult years and it’s still slaps so much. It’s weirdly creamier than any homemade baked potato I’ve ever had. Not necessarily softer but smoother???
A few notes from the States (I worked at Wendy's in High School)
1. This looked like a 'normal' Wendy's experience... Food looked like it does here.
2. We DO have plain Baked Potatoes (but people almost always get something else on them.)
mate its like a 1£ for 4 jacket potatos at home dont be so lazy
Nope. You're not the only one. I don't order the chili, but I always go for the baked potato side and skip the fries. Sometimes I also get the chili as a side, but adding in their hot sauce is key for me.
Same here. I'm in the U.S. but I prefer the baked potato to french fries.
I love that you guys take a bite right off the same spot. That's how we know you're truly best friends and don't give a s hit
