I love ZZP but those radiator hoses were way over priced in my opinion

I thought it was a great project until you got to the point of the hose not fitting the radiator. I've had that problem on other projects and that just pisses me off. So, in short, ZZP just lost a sale. I would have bought that radiator and trans cooler for my GTP , BUT, not now.
    Way to ZZP !

Love your videos.I have the same issue in my 05 Grand Prix 3.8L NA with 125K miles. Just got it 3 months ago. Engine temps are fine on the highway, but in traffic temperature goes up past the mid-way on my gauge and I have to turn the heat on to cool it down.
Seems like the fans come on much later than they should. Very stressful. I have a few questions:
My temp gauge doesnt show the actual temp numbers, how are you able to tell what the exact temperature is?
Same question for the tranny temp - how are you able to see what the exact temp is?
Is there a way to force the fans to come on earlier? You mentioned you had set them lower.
This seems to be a common problem on these cars, is the only way to fix them to replace the radiator?
Do I also have to replace the trans cooler or is that optional?
What is the right thermostat temperature to use?

Good job bro. I'm getting an aluminum radiator myself. This ain't a job you wanna do over. No more plastic radiators for me.

Be good to know how much a zzp rad drops coolant and trans temp over stock without aux cooler. Ive used the Monte Carlo police option aux cooler and factory 3 lines. Always been afraid of aux rubber cooler lines as ive seen so many come in on hook after a cooler line popped off and trans puked its guts out then pump was junk before driver realized what happened

Amazing installation. I think ZZP definitely needs some more R&D on those hose necks. Especially since it doesn’t fit their hoses either. Those transmission temps are impressive after your cooler added. Good vlog.

I'm sure this is a good video.
Just came across it but don't have the time.
I'll save it to my " favorites" list and watch it later.

Yeah city driving and highway driving gets my coolant temps to over 190 with a NA 06 Grand Prix. The trans temps can get over 200 if not up to 220 during peak summer temps. I need to find a mechanic to do this set up to my car.
Any tips on hard shifts? Sometimes 2nd and 3rd shift hard.

    • @SalemDoyle
      @SalemDoyle  Рік тому +3

Probably trans issue, like a broken accumulator spring or something. If it does it on every shift after it getts hot, could be pressure control solenoid

    • @mcdavidhome100
      @mcdavidhome100 10 місяців тому

That's exactly what mine does. Shifts hard after every shift when it gets hot. It usually throws a code of P1811 Maximum adapt and long shift. What I would do is clear the code and the hard shifting will go away for about 30 minutes.

@@mcdavidhome100 I bought my 07 GT with 158k miles about 3.5 months ago, and so far it's happened twice. After I shut it off and restart again, it goes away for another month. I'm still figuring out if the solenoid itself is going bad or it's possible that sometime I drive it too much like grandma (really really light feathered acceleration) and gives me a false 1811. I've read that that can happen too. I'm considering a ZZP tune so bring up the line pressure to make that go away

Just bought a 2004 GTP COMP G with 94,000 miles. My radiator is leaking now and I’m thinking about putting the same radiator in it as well.
Doesn’t look to be too hard to do

I did a tru cool 4k. The big boy. I mounted it up behind the nostrils like you did however mine spans across the whole width. I stupidly decided to run -6an lines and fittings the whole way from the case to cooler. Major pain I'm the rear end getting all of the correct fittings. And very costly. I've got a large freezer Ziploc bag full of incorrect -6 fittings/adapters. But, I know it will never leak 🙃. That's what I tell myself anyway.
Doing only the trans cooler completely fixed my slight overheating issue. The stock radiator now has no problem keeping up even with ac on

@@SalemDoyle my last road trip was 4hr both ways to a tuner. So there were a lot of pulls. When I got back home at the end of the day my trans got upto 160°. This was from a total of 8hrs of driving with a lot of pulls. Very impressive. Imo the 4k was probably overkill but it does work. Of I were to do it again (I'm not going through that hell again). I would probably use the cooler you did.

That zzp radiator was hard to bleed I just did mine a month ago. I also did a derale trans cooler with a fan on it might be over kill but I stay in Texas so summer heat is critical.

With my tune to kick the fans on at 180 and keeping the radiator clean and fresh fluid in the trans I rarely see temps over 180 degrees. If so, 185 at the hottest. The key for me is keeping the coolant temp down. Tune plus 180 degree thermostat keep that pretty much in check.
Edit. Didn't mean this to be a reply

I have a 06 base model and have the zzp aluminum radiator is a trans cooler a benefit for me or not as im base model.
Also i have a zzp aluminum radiator. When online i get 10 different torque specs from 10 ft/lb to 14 ft/lb whats a good torque you use on trans pan bolts?
Also the drain plug on the trans pan leaks i ordered a better gasket but a torque spec on the drain bolt would be awesome.
I also use the gm metal oem gasket.

    • @SalemDoyle

Trans cooler may be a benefit to you still. 10 ft lbs should be enough on those bolts, but go over then a few times.

@SalemDoyle OK that's all fixed thank youa s always. Now I have a rotten egg smell that is only after the car runs for a while. New heads, lim zzp aluminum radiator zzp valve covers, zzp power logs front back and xover 3 inch zzp downpipe and full zzp exhaust. I used the old injectors don't see any leaks ect. Wondering if it's the o2 sensor or sensors as those where not new or fuel filter. This is a project car not legal and has not moved alot started up ran ect for up to 15 min. Any point in the right direction would be awesome.

Usually that smell is either the battery or the converter full of carbon
