    Congratulations from Canada on a fight well fought - that was a slugfest, and it could easily have hung you up on the snags in that run. European pike are considerably fatter than ours, and this one was a bruiser. Love it when you have to go in after them, once you are swimming you are committed haha.

    HahahHaha, yes. You are definitely a normal big fish guy. Your reaction and amazement to land this creature is a mirror of the way I am. Wow buddy, what an excellent job.

    Nice fish and recovery. Pike are always great to hook you right them three times normally. The psych , the show , and the beaten surrender. Your ability to recover from the first landing attempt was awesome line directional steering management was top notch maintaining a relentless hook set all the way through. Bravo top notch film. Your experience shows!

    🌲🍀🐾🎣Yeah Man, That's What I'm Talking About! I fish small streams with spinner baits all the time for Smallmouth Bass & Pike in the U.S. midwest, and often I have to go in (or fall in) to the water to land a pike. That's just the way it "is". So worth it though! That's the HEART"💗" POUNDING EXCITEMENT that "Lures" me to this kind of fishing😉🎣🐾🍀🌲.

    a real fly fisherman's thrill once connected to a beast with complicated terrain....loved the part when you slipped under...pike almost in (a normal but far too small in this case) net...than watched the monster passing downstream...good decision to let her go a bit down and later in muddied cloud....probably helping....btw, how much water did you get in waders (seems jacket was snug enough not to get too much)....grrrrreat dynamic video 👌

      Drake Stone-Smolinski thanks for your comment, the pike is rather lightcolored and so I understand your notion. But this is a stream in central Europe, we don’t have muskie here and accordingly also no hybrids, the coloration and pattern of this pike has something to do with the milky water it lives in. But I would love to fish for muskie one day, they are truely beautiful and impressive fish!

    I lost a muskie about the same size it was attacking ng a large bream on my stringer. I went to the stringer & instead of a snake there was glowing angery eyes looking right at me. I took the whole bream off the stringer hooked it to my largest treble hook then pitched it right to him like a bone to a dog. He grabbed it & took off he striped about 30 ft of line then I set the hook by closing the bail on my Mitchell 500. After a wild fight I slide him about 6-8 ft on the muddy bank. I slipped he threw the table hook & grabbed him like a hog wrestling competition. Into the water we went. I lost. I regretted not dragging him further into the woods & keeping him I never caught such a monster. It's still on my mind. Congratulations ! On your gorgeous fish 🎣

      @@troutfishinggermany9186 There was I think, a “the Freshwater Angler “series book ‘Northern Pike and Musky’ volume, had a micrograph photo of musky and pike teeth. As a young boy, I started to recognize the bite marks on the bait. Cagey late season bass scrape off the scales in mouth pattern, walleye leave couple punctures, but the pike and musky leave razor slashes. I thought the musky and pike teeth were needle-like, but under magnification, their teeth have saber-like edges. All the more credit for catching without a leader....really respect the finesse...the approach & cast & catch& release....

    • @troutfishinggermany9186
      @troutfishinggermany9186  4 роки тому +3

      Rod Belding same here! I believe that pike in a river help to keep the trout population healthy, by eating weak and sickly fish. In a stream with some current the healthy fish will always be able to escape as the pike does not like the fast water.

      @@troutfishinggermany9186 I totally agree. They have a furious reputation, even tho the big predators regulate and matter as much as smaller fish in streams. Its a basic biological principle. If the Pike would "eat all the trout", they had nothing more to eat, which would ultimatly result in a decrease of pike and in increase of trout. Trout are no idiots and are specialized camouflage hunter that know how to hide properly. U´ll find them shooting out of spots u´d never expect or see them in the first place. They adapt very well and are able to survive even in streams with big pike.

      @@feralphil1198 Isn't this a mute point, as catch and release fishing is illegal in Germany (it stresses the fish, and fish have feelings and we don't want to torture them)?

    • @feralphil1198
      @feralphil1198 4 роки тому

      @@sweynforkbeard8857 its kind of a grey zone justicewise in germany. There is an article ( Article 17) in the animal protection law paper saying that u should not be hurting any vertebrate unless you have serious reason to ( for example eating purpose etc.) Following that article you should not be practicing catch and release. It is also regulated differently in different States in Germany. So you have to inform yourself about the regional laws. Feelingwise they have been mate studies on fish a couple of times arguing about the actualy sense of "pain" a fish can "feel" or not. Nocireceptors, which you find in mammal brains, are strongl linked to the sensation of pain in higher vertebrates. Those receptors we dont find in the fish brain, even if so, as in 20 years of being a fisherman, I never saw a fish "enjoy" getting caught. They truely feel stress and therefore I dislike such simplified studies making points where there is none. I think you should always be looking on how u treat animals and make an ethical judgment for yourself, while respecting laws, but also making sure u don´t let the fish suffer unnessecarily.

    Amazing Pike . You definitely need a bigger net though . I don't know where you live , but check out the folding nets from Savage Gear or Fox , or if in the UK check out Glasgow Angling centres Stillwater range of folding nets . They have one which is big enough to hold big fish , but has rubber mesh so better for the fish and stops hook snags . It is light enough and compact enough to be worn over your back also . Well done on a beautiful big Mama . I like the Hardy Demon rod as well . I have the #7 for my Stillwater trout angling . They are fantastic rods and effortless to cast .

      Hey mate, many thanks for the suggestions. The net in the video is a McLean net, and it also has a rubber net. As you said, rubber nets have a lot of advantages. So far this net had always been big enough, but this pike was bigger than anything i had expect that day. Will buy a bigger one for sure!

    Great video! If I can suggest something, it seems to me that you're worrying more than necessary about mending your line while fishing streamers. A dead drift isn't so important for most streamer fishing since you're simulating the movement of a forage fish that has the ability to resist the current. In fact, I find that a nice belly in the line accurately simulates the movement of a forage fish in the current - that is, able to move across the current close to the banks where the laminar flow reduces the pressure from the current, while getting swept away towards the center of the stream, where the current is strongest. This kind of swing is very popular in spey fishing, for example, and is especially effective on larger rivers.

    • @troutfishinggermany9186
      @troutfishinggermany9186  4 роки тому +1

      Massangler1856 many thanks for you detailed answer and the advice! In this case though, mending was the only way to give the streamer a bit of time to sink down. Without mending, the current would have pulled it to the surface. Maybe a sinktip or a heavier streamer would have made things easier...
