    Hello and thanks for this video. As a french fan of microbrands, it has been a real pleasure to look at it. This chrono is well done and, as usual with Depancel, got a bit of racing spirit in it. At this price range, you do not have a lot of movements' choice : this manual Sea-Gull or a meca-quartz Seiko. Some years before, I purchased a 1963 Sea-Gull chrono and the movement broke. I tried to have it fixed but couldn't find any watchmaker to do. All were answering, this is a too cheap chinese movement, to try to fix it not worth it. 😢

      I hope that brands using this movement would provide a back-up in future given what they are charging compared to a Far East produced watch using this movement, but who knows?? At least with the $100 to $200 watches on Ali it's not a great loss.

      Thank you for your comment. It's always great to hear about people's experience with watches/movements. I was under the impression that those movements are pretty good but there are a few people in the comments that have had similar experience to you:(

      Seagull is indeed today the only chronograph manufacturer in this price range. We are well aware of the manufacturing challenges regarding this movement, hence the long testing time and process to make those fully reliable and accurate, I guess we are still the only one to guarantee those 5 years :-)

    Very pretty, esthetic watch. The crown is a very nice touch. 5 years warranty for this movement looks like suicide... Thanks Oleg, for the interesting and fair review, as always!

      @trogpo : All the movements are carefully disassembled and reassembled by our watchmakers to perfect the settings (-10 +20 s/day) , oiling and greasing. Hence the 5 years warranty that we offer on all our watches that you indeed usually won"t find on Seagull at entry prices

    What a great looking piece. The French seem to do chrono's very well, don't they? Yema, Baltic, Lip, now this. And yes, the ST19 = Venus 175. It's not like a 175, it IS absolutely a Venus 175, made on the very same machinery Venus made them on in the 1950s. They have found crazy stuff in China that apparently went from the US to Switzerland to China and then disappeared for several decades before being recognized by a visiting historian.

    • @Horizontalvertigo

      No, they've upgraded the movement and reproduced the machinery.

      @@BryanO92 the fact multiple factories make the movement when they only got one set of tooling, the fact that the number of jewels in the movement has increased from 19 in the 60's to 21 today, the fact there are multiple derivative movements based on the 175 tooling, the fact that after nearly 70 years the tooling would be worn out and in need of replacement.

      @@Horizontalvertigo So they made millions of dollars worth of changes to a perfectly good movement, yet quality control is a waste of money?

    • @Horizontalvertigo
      @Horizontalvertigo 7 місяців тому

      @@BryanO92 it wouldn't be millions of dollars in China to do that work, and they churn out so many of the things that the tooling would be paid for in no time. And they're so cheaply produced that replacing them costs little and on top of that few people actually bother with warranties, if warranties are even given in China (and they wouldn't care about the foreign market).

      We do guarantee our watches 5 years and would take care of movements issues should they happen. Not all the brands want to include those services in their offer since it comes at a high cost but you won't get those issues rate if movements are controlled and set properly post factory reception.

      This movement is notoriously bad, regardless of how it's maintained. Most enthusiasts are aware of this, and will not buy any piece with this movement.
