JawTooth. I watched a show a while ago about the high speed trains in Japan. They also take great pride in their railways there. Saftey is a high priority. In the early hours of the mornings a team of track saftey inspectors and grinding equipment travel together. I believe they mentioned their high speed rails saftey record is one of the best in the world. The grinding equipment is a little longer and is painted bright yellow. Inside the equipment a room full of high tech equipment.and engineers.Tight time lines. Traveling on a high speed is on my bucket list. Thank you for sharing. Very interesting. Cheers from Canada.
Mark Nichols ' body found 2:00 pm in Boone Lake behind his Town House, Sad day for Railroaders, a legend has passed away. Thank you Jaw Tooth for posting this video, have a great Saturday and Sunday.
Hey jaw tooth very lucky catch on rail grinding train. That's something you don't see every day. Cool trains. I'm sorry for your loss. RIP shoestring. May your spirit ride the rails forever. You won't be forgotten. 😥😥 Have a great railroad day 🚂🙋♀️
You were very fortunate to have known Mark. The rest of us will never get that opportunity now. May his rides always be smooth and his heart forever mended.
We were so sorry to hear about Hobo Shoestring Mark Nichols passing .. our thoughts and prayers are with you and all Of the railroad community in this great loss of an awesome content creator but more importantly a kind gentle man and story teller.
Even though I never had the opportunity to meet him in person your and Hobo's videos were always very personable and watching them was always like being there with you or him, so I, and also the whole railway family feel a loss and sadness at his passing. May you Rest In Peace Shoestring until we meet again on the high rail.
My husband enjoyed watching shoestring (and a few others train videos-especially you jawtooth!)But never subscribed . After realizing how much I enjoyed them as well, I recently subscribed to your channel due to your simple but very sincere tribute to Mark- I can tell you appreciated him and was grateful to have called him a friend- he definately kept us entertained up here in Maine- he will be missed for sure. Thank you for all your videos.
There is a song called Big Rock Candy Mountain. It’s a Hobo Heaven! Whiskey runs over the rocks. You canoe in lakes of stew. The boxcars are all open and the railyard bulls are blind. So to Hobo Shoestring: He’ll see us all this coming Fall, On The Big Rock Candy Mountain!
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains/Harry McClintock One evening as the sun went down And the jungle fire was burning Down the track came a hobo hikin' And he said, "Boys, I'm not turning I'm headed for a land that's far away Beside the crystal fountains So come with me, we'll go and see The Big Rock Candy Mountains In The Big Rock Candy Mountains There's a land that's fair and bright Where the handouts grow on bushes And you sleep out every night Where the boxcars all are empty And the sun shines every day On the birds and the bees and the cigarette trees The lemonade springs where the bluebird sings In The Big Rock Candy Mountains In The Big Rock Candy Mountains All the cops have wooden legs And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth And the hens lay soft-boiled eggs The farmers' trees are full of fruit And the barns are full of hay Oh I'm bound to go where there ain't no snow Where the rain don't fall, the wind don't blow In The Big Rock Candy Mountains In The Big Rock Candy Mountains You never change your socks And the little streams of alcohol Come a-trickling down the rocks The brakemen have to tip their hats And the railroad bulls are blind There's a lake of stew and of whiskey, too You can paddle all around 'em in a big canoe In The Big Rock Candy Mountains In The Big Rock Candy Mountains The jails are made of tin And you can walk right out again As soon as you are in There ain't no short-handle shovels No axes, saws or picks I'm a-goin' to stay where you sleep all day Where they hung the jerk that invented work In The Big Rock Candy Mountains I'll see you all this comin' fall In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
I gotta admit JT, that was cool seeing both you and Scott ( 1960gambit ) both film the rail grinder on separate days. Both of ya had such awesome footage of it. Plus, I think it was a treat to see that high railer swap from rail to road in the corner there. Also, R.I.P. Hobo Shoestring. I didn't watch much of his videos but they were amazing to see. Especially when he met up w/ JT at the road that goes under a freight yard. Hope their looking after you well in Rail heaven, you'll truly be missed :'( :'(
R.I.P. Hobbo Shoestring, he will be missed, I hope his vidoes will still be available on youtube so others can see some what he saw during his rail hopping journeys, God Bless you Mark.
You stay well Jawtooth!!! We need your videos !!! Weve lost a friend in Shoestring and will sorely miss his adventures on the rails!!! You have no idea how much your efforts are appreciated!!!!!!! Kudos WF
R.I.P Shoestring I will miss You Brother, I hope You are with Your Son now, thoughts, prayers and condolences for family, friends and fans, every time I hear a train horn I will think of Mark, nice video JT,nice lash up on NS manifest.
Nice catch of the Loram Rail Grinder train (smaller version)., Jaw Tooth! You were able to capture the Loram Rail Grinder in action at several locations where we could see the sparks flying from the grinding wheels. WWoT has some videos of a Loram Rail Grinder train in action at night. The action at night is fascinating to watch. The Dupps Railroad line is a handy place to park the Loram Rail Grinder trains. The Norfolk Southern train and the CSX train that you caught at Union Road in Carlisle, Ohio were long trains and a great meet. Thank you for including the addition of the short video from 2023 of the Dupps Railroad engine picking up the two flat cars from the CSX interchange. That was sad news about Hobo Shoestring. May he rest in peace.
I saw it at night also and it was enough to shut down the freeway. They were freaking out and didnt know what was going on. I was laughing. More sparks than when Michael Jackson caught his hair on fire with the pepsi commercial. Wouldnt be surprised if someone called the cops.
Hope everybody on the ground around that grinder was wearing eye protection. These rail grinders are really spectacular at night. One came by my house once at night in Pensacola. It was something I won't soon forget.........
@Jaw Tooth... Nice i've seen 2 Rail grinders on the NS Lehigh Line in Phillipsburg NJ back in October 2022.. plus I bet Shoestring was a great friend of yours & hope you'll have a lot of great memories & fun times you had with him... May he Rest in peace 😭😭
Some of the rail grinders are design or assigned specificially to grind crossings, switch outs, etc. The more expanded Loram units handle the main rail and lift their grind units at crossings and diamonds. Sadden to hear of Shoestring's passing, may he rest in peace.
That NS train with the 3 locos was one of the longest I've seen on your videos, I counted 201 cars! Liked the variety of paint schemes on those 3 engines. RIP Hobo Shoestring, so sorry you lost a friend, Brian. I'm not too familiar with him, having only started watching RR videos in the past year or so, but for some reason, I feel deep sadness and I'm touched by his loss. Take care. Oh, if you're thinking of another vehicle, I hope it's a Chrysler Corp. vehicle, I'm a Mopar guy, having had a few in my time. They were the best of the many cars, trucks, and vans I've driven. Again, thanks for all your efforts, and since Spock has been my role model throughout my life, may you live long and prosper. 🖖
Superb footage, great to see the Rail grinder in operation, never seen one working before. Looks like you had a good day yesterday with 2 freight trains together. Sorry to hear of Shoestrings passing.
The NS mixed manifest was absolutely fabulous JT!!!!! I mean amazing!! I counted 197 cars and I believe I missed a few. I was so impressed there were 2 new blue box cars with no graffiti! There were also some coil steel so wide they had to load them long ways, some plate steel, 3 locomotives and a DPU! One of the locomotives had special paint, also. It was the longest train I've seen east of the Mississippi! What a catch, JT!!!!! 😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤
Good morning JT, fab footage of those Loram locos going over your favourite runner crossing in Hamilton. You got a beep beep too! Great filming of the 2 trains in one shot. Always great seeing the cute Dups! JT I'm so sorry for the loss of your dear friend Shoestring. It was through you that I started watching his videos & I was hooked. As the legend said, goodnight I love all of you. ❤😢🙏
Best to "Shoestring", in a better place now, he made some great vids and learned a lot from his adventures. He will be missed. Yet another great vid, thanks Jaw Tooth.. Be Crazy!
A nice LORAM grinder - something we don't see every day. A nice DPU on a big manifest and a cool switcher :) And last, but not least - steel coils - LOL!
The red pick up on the road was a nice one, JT! That's for sure. 😊 The CSX mixed freight was a great train too! I really liked the iron (Fe) trading gondola, the Maine Central and PanAm box cars, the log car and the coil steel cars!!! I counted it to be 162 cars! It sure looked like the NS and CSX lines would intersect just shortly past the road but I guess that's not the case? Regardless, what a fantastic place to catch trains! 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My condolences to you and all of us in the rail fan community! Such a sad tragedy for a man who never hurts anyone and always had a kind word to say! May he forever ride the Heavenly rails! RIP Shoestring!
Thank you so much for the spectacular video today JT!!! I envy your being able to see so many great trains in so many different places. What I don't envy is you being away from your family. Lean on them too, JT. 😢 I am so,so sorry about Shoestring. The friend I lost was my older son's best friend, and he was like one of my own. I can put myself in the place you are pretty easily. I'm not trying to minimize your loss in the least, only trying to say I understand. If I can help please reach out and let me know. I pray the God of all comfort will be with you in the days ahead. Thanks again, my friend. 😊😊😊❤❤❤
Great video. Nice catch on the 6220 and the 4005. So sorry to hear about your good friend Hobo Shoestring. Thanks for sharing all of your time with him.
That rail grinder was awesome i bet those rails are hot after they grind them RIP Shoestring been watching a few of his videos since yesterday he was no dummy and quite the servivalest.
Ol Shoestring's going to be missed. Rest easy sir. Got a guy who rides out and back locally and I commented on his video that he might want to look up some of Shoestring's videos to learn some of the ropes of riding the rails. He knew his stuff for sure.
Pretty nice NS locomotive with " Working Hard To Make A Cleaner State" paint job, and a Fe Trading gondola car is one I've never seen before. Several years ago I watched a few Hobo Shoestring videos and the prompt at the end would recommend you tubers making videos of trains, I didnt know at the time it was called railfanning . So the very first video I clicked on was one of yours Brian ,and Ive been hooked ever since, and I have Hobo Shoestring to thank for that. Rest In Peace Mark , forever Hobo Shoestring.🙏
RIP Hobo Shoestrings ❤🙏 I knew he was in that lake. I kept getting water & he's gone....but I felt peace too....🙏🙏🙏 He will be missed. I've watched him for years.
Brian sorry to hear about shoestring hope he is in a better place now he can ride the trains and not get in trouble my prayers go out to his family and friends God bless shoestring
This was more awesome exciting train action there in Ohio this morning, the Loram rail grinder is always interesting to watch, the trains passing on each side of you was really awesome, always great to see the amazing train pets Chessie, Loki, Brandi and Norfie, the slide show train recaps and R.I.P. Mark/Shoestring Thanks Jaw Tooth.🇺🇲🤠🇺🇲 🇺🇲🇺🇲🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲🇺🇲
Happy Birthday JT. I'm very sorry to see that Shoestring is no longer with us on this side of the rail. His videos will always be there for all to enjoy. I'm very glad that Mark knew that I had added a menu item in his recognition. He was very thrilled about that.
Shoestring knew the do's n don't s of railroading better than anyone I've ever seen. He'd even have fun sitting on the train while it was stopped in a dark tunnel. And he's the only hobo I knew of that was allowed by the crew to sit in a DPU for his rode. God bless you 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃
Great effort on this production, and the end result is excellent. Perhaps sometime you could show the result of the rail after it's been worked on by the machine. Thank you for taking us along on your adventures
@jjsisco hobo shoestring and JawTooth meet in Kentucky because Hobo shoestring was on the train and you know Matt Mantell is so sad that his friend Hobo shoestring is gone why don’t you tell Matt Mantell about hobo shoestring passed away
Heard the news about hobo shoestring yesterday 😢. Hopefully you tube keeps his videos up for the memories. My favorite video is when you met him a few years ago.
Great catch on the CSX And NS at the same time Jawtooth, I still cant believe we lost Shoestring, he will be greatly missed, so sad I really have no words.😥🙏
Between those tracks is an interesting location! Nice catches and seeing the rail grinder at work was cool, and the bonus footage of the Dupps switcher was neet too! 🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃💯🇺🇸👍 🙏🙏RIP Shoestring 🙏 🙏
R.I.P. SHOESTRING. YOUR VIDEOS WILL LIVE FOREVER.🙏👍
God Bless Mark Hobo Shoestring . Ride on with no worries man . 🙏🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸

So to Hobo Shoestring:
He’ll see us all this coming Fall,
On The Big Rock Candy Mountain!
That song is about Big Rock Candy Mountain, which is a real place in Utah.
@@ExaltedSeahawksFanread the lyrics, it's a hobo song
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains/Harry McClintock
One evening as the sun went down
And the jungle fire was burning
Down the track came a hobo hikin'
And he said, "Boys, I'm not turning
I'm headed for a land that's far away
Beside the crystal fountains
So come with me, we'll go and see
The Big Rock Candy Mountains
In The Big Rock Candy Mountains
There's a land that's fair and bright
Where the handouts grow on bushes
And you sleep out every night
Where the boxcars all are empty
And the sun shines every day
On the birds and the bees and the cigarette trees
The lemonade springs where the bluebird sings
In The Big Rock Candy Mountains
In The Big Rock Candy Mountains
All the cops have wooden legs
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth
And the hens lay soft-boiled eggs
The farmers' trees are full of fruit
And the barns are full of hay
Oh I'm bound to go where there ain't no snow
Where the rain don't fall, the wind don't blow
In The Big Rock Candy Mountains
In The Big Rock Candy Mountains
You never change your socks
And the little streams of alcohol
Come a-trickling down the rocks
The brakemen have to tip their hats
And the railroad bulls are blind
There's a lake of stew and of whiskey, too
You can paddle all around 'em in a big canoe
In The Big Rock Candy Mountains
In The Big Rock Candy Mountains
The jails are made of tin
And you can walk right out again
As soon as you are in
There ain't no short-handle shovels
No axes, saws or picks
I'm a-goin' to stay where you sleep all day
Where they hung the jerk that invented work
In The Big Rock Candy Mountains
I'll see you all this comin' fall
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
No fooling?
Cool!

Sorry to hear about your friend shoestring
Have you taken before and after shots of the rail grinding procedure? It would be interesting to see the difference that machine makes.
I’d like to know what parts of the rail are being ground and why.
Thanks for the nice video Mr Jaw, RIP Hobo Shoestring
Shoestring knew the do's n don't s of railroading better than anyone I've ever seen. He'd even have fun sitting on the train while it was stopped in a dark tunnel. And he's the only hobo I knew of that was allowed by the crew to sit in a DPU for his rode. God bless you 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃

Great effort on this production, and the end result is excellent. Perhaps sometime you could show the result of the rail after it's been worked on by the machine. Thank you for taking us along on your adventures
Good idea! I don't know why I didn't think of that. I have more video of it so I will in the next one
