That was a great video on how they cut the train to make it lighter to get up the grade. Didn't think they were going to get started with all that wheel slipping, but they did.. I don't think they filled the sanders, didn't see any sand coming out to help with traction. Really glad you stayed till the entire process was completed.. Thanks Mr. JawTooth
A scene that's happened since the first train couldn't make it up a grade, timeless. Saw it happen several times on Byron hill on the old SOO main south of Fond du Lac when helpers weren't available. Gritty video, liked it much. Thanks JT!
This is sad to see the train didn't make it up the hill. What a noise it made trying so hard. 😢 They needed a couple of DPUs helping.. Very good video and Chessie riding with you. Thanks Mr JT❤❤😊
Thanks for watching! Chessie gets so excited when she sees me grab my keys and get a radio. She starts making noises and jumping on me and shoots straight for the truck. I wish I could get that filmed
Jaw tooth . Thank you. It's been cold down here in Tennessee. It was 22 this morning. Hope you have a blessed weekend. Stay warm out there. Catch you on the next video.
This is near where I live, Jaw Tooth! This was something that I have never seen before in railroad. Thank you for sharing!! I appreciate old train hoppers like you even more now that Hobo Shoestring in gone now. RIP.
The wheel slippage reminded me of a 1950s TV show depicting the "Old West" [19th century] (US) where some rural folks had issues with a railroad line, whereupon they sabotaged the rails with bacon grease, rendering the steam locomotive to paralysis on the tracks.
That's a brave conductor who trusts his engineer. That's damn dangerous work. I knew a man who used to work for the NS and his arm was almost ripped out of his socket doing stuff like this. Had surgery..it caused his career to end. Great video and kudos to the crew.
Where was the horn salute? They're legally obliged to blow the horn at grade crossings, and everything in this video was shot from grade crossings, wasn't it?
They needed the MP15DC!!!! (and some sand). And no wonder............ At (16:56) they are dragging the cars. Look at the wheel bearing heads; they aren't even freely turning. Brakes must still be at least partly on. Thank you for the video, Brian.
Love it Brian and Jesse....! A man and his dog, nothing better.... He should have gotten a little better run at that hill Brian.... I mean he had two units and not that many cars, albeit all loads... What we would do on a yard job like that was to cut the power off and go up the hill sanding the rail and then come back down and grab the cut.... I didn't see any sand on that rail when you got over by the crossing and she was picking up her wheels, slipping ....Anyway, great video buddy... Give Jesse a pet for me...! "Smoke Em"...Greg
Great video, JT. Always cool to see wheel slip on a locomotive. I was surprised not to see any sand being used, for whatever reason. But they got 'er done. Hats off to the engineer for "pedaling" it like he did.
Geez. The B36-7 was really struggling on the grade. I watched a video of a CSX train that was struggling past a crossing. The wheels were slipping so bad that the turbo blew. I’m surprised they continued
This is another awesome video. Slipping trains are not often seen here. Oh yes, my Baofeng is on the way, and I have the AAR list and am ready to program it.
There are videos on here that show how to program them. I have a bunch of them. I broke several of them so be careful with it. Dropping them or grabbing them by the antenna will damage them. Have a great weekend!
@JawTooth I have been watching them. It will take a while, but once I get the first three or so in, it will just take an hour or so to get all of them in.
Like the horns sound on that older local vs. the others as well. Nice video son! Even after the cut out the engines seem to struggle, when they came back for the grain cars you could see the wheels turning, creating sparks!
I haven't filmed I&O in a while now that I think of it. My sons girlfriend filmed an I&O train for me last week in Washington Courthouse Ohio but she filmed it vertical. I might work it in somewhere but I will film them again soon
"I think I can! I think I can! I hope I can! Gonna keep trying! I'm not sure if I can. Ahh nuts - I can't. Gravity wins. That would be a trick to get the right amount of momentum to get up the hill and still stay within the track speed limit. Thanks for another wonderful video, JT!
They definitely need a couple more SD40-2'S or a couple SD60's those little GP15's and that GE are for lite duty service. Great video JT. Happy Holidays.
Even older - a B36-7 built in 1985 according to the "DieselHouse" site. CCET has 2 of these 3600hp beasts with one running. #5895 is on the property but doesn't appear to be running at present. They also have a GE B23-7, but this one is listed as a "parts source" for the other GE's.
JT it's always fun to see your dog Chessie riding with you. She's a pretty girl. I like how alert she is, always looking . You have fun with all of your pets. That's really nice.
Thanks for the great short line action, JT! It's hard for me to believe that 2 locomotives together couldn't get over the crest of the hill! 😮😮 I always thought they had more low-end torque than that. It was good seeing Chessie, the new kitten, and your grandson? Did the girls win their soccer match? I hope they did. 😃😃
That crew was probably thinking if only we had the SD40 today. As the train came up to the second grade crossing one could just see the speed tapering off and even on the first recalculation of tonnage reduction the hill remained a foe. Looking at some of the heaps of gravel in those Hoppers the word overload took on new meaning and can affect performance. Glad you still made it to the game I'm sure the girls enjoy being able to play year-round to keep their skills honed. Stay bundled up what as the temps drop.
I love watching the fight of trains and gravity. I have seen NS die on this hill also. Indoor soccer is really fun to watch. More action and the field is smaller. The girls really love it. They are getting to the age where there are less and less girls playing so they have to play games against the boys. Thanks for being here Paul!

Great video as always and the grade certainly caused some wheel slippage but without too many sparks as I have seen in other slippage videos brought on by a number of contributing factors.

Wow - Were those guys told to not use any sand on those rails ? Or did somebody forget to fill up the sandboxes ? Great video on railroad operating problems that can show up un- announced while working on a job. Keep those viceos coming !
It seems to me that the. New ownership of the Cincinnati Eastern needs to buy/lease a couple on six axle engines. Another suggestion it to use sand on the hill. But what do I know?
Really an interesting video. Even I have been following your channel (and many other train channel), I have not seen a stall. Thanks for sharing 🙂 Regards from Denmark
Fantastic video thanks. Fascinating seeing American short lines at work and seeing older engines still earning a living for their railroad.
Thanks for watching!
@JawTooth how was your Thanksgiving? Sorry I have not made any videos either
Shortline screwing up big time.
That was a great video on how they cut the train to make it lighter to get up the grade. Didn't think they were going to get started with all that wheel slipping, but they did.. I don't think they filled the sanders, didn't see any sand coming out to help with traction. Really glad you stayed till the entire process was completed.. Thanks Mr. JawTooth
Next time I talk to them I will ask about the sanders. I couldn't see any sand either. Thanks for watching!
ELS isn’t the only short line with problems getting up grades. Thx for the great video JT
Thanks for watching!
At least ELS has more than one 6 axle locomotives. CCET has only 1.
A scene that's happened since the first train couldn't make it up a grade, timeless. Saw it happen several times on Byron hill on the old SOO main south of Fond du Lac when helpers weren't available. Gritty video, liked it much. Thanks JT!

Thanks for watching my videos and Happy New Year!
Thank You Jaw Tooth, great video as always! Tons of weight indeed, check out those line polls, they need some fixing!
They rotted and broke at the base. Their time is limited. Gravity is getting them also lol
On the front locomotive, fid you see the wheels slipping on it at the second pull....
Pretty cool video
Yes, I saw that. It eventually got going
Jaw tooth . Thank you. It's been cold down here in Tennessee. It was 22 this morning. Hope you have a blessed weekend. Stay warm out there. Catch you on the next video.

1st, wow! Excellent catching all the trains, I like them, they're awesome, @JawTooth, Brian, thank you very much and have a nice day and night.
Even tho they are big and heavy, metal on icy metal won't give much traction even worse with hevay loads. Awesome live action, Brian.
No ice there -- temperatures in the 40s Fahrenheit (5-10C), he said.
Awesome video with a horn salute and a b36-7 pulling hard but wait there’s more to come 👍😎🇺🇸🚂👍

@651 I knew they were gonna fall down on the hill. That track is good for 40 mph , you gotta run at the hill or have a shorter train.
Not sure they're allowed to run faster than 25mph.
Cool SPARKS flying!
