  • Trains Passing My Favorite Building That Burnt, CSX Train With Caboose & Locomotive Running Long Hood Forward & Lackawanna Heritage Unit Roars Past Me In A Hurry With A Loud DPU Shoving The Rear Of The Train! Norfolk Southern Trains & CSX Trains In Hamilton, Ohio And Seven Mile, Ohio. But Listen To That DPU Locomotive Working Hard! The Railroad Crossing Next To The Abandoned Mill Building Is One Of My Favorite Crossings.
The huge Beckett Paper Company building in Hamilton Burned on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. This building was in tons of my videos. It was the huge blue brick building that sat by the CSX tracks on Dayton Street near 5th Street. I didn't film the fire because I was out of state. The fire was so big that the tracks had to be closed for hours and the entire building was destroyed. The city of Hamilton owned the building and they were going to demolish it. It was sad to see it go and these are the first trains that I got to see pass the site. The first train was a good one with a locomotive running long hood forward and a caboose on the rear! The train was returning to New River Yard after doing switching and coming off the Indy Sub. We see the building remains and then a Norfolk Southern intermodal train passes it at the Dayton Street railroad crossing.
Then, I went to Seven Mile, Ohio which is just a few miles northwest of Hamilton. Here I got a fast Norfolk Southern freight train with a DPU on the rear. Check out the leading locomotive! It is the Lackawanna heritage unit on the front!
I came back to Hamilton and got a huge CSX mixed freight with a DPU in the middle. This train is seen passing the site of the burned paper mill and taking the interchange track onto the Norfolk Southern New Castle Sub. I got another angle of the burned building with the train passing it.
After that, I was leaving when I heard a train passing the defect detector at MP27.7 on 160.230. I stopped at the next crossing to the north and got a CSX intermodal train. This is a bonus train since I had already decided to leave but managed to get the train at the last second. Luckily, I only drove a half a block when I heard the train approaching on my scanner. I also show my scanner up close and you can hear the railroad audio that came from the defect detector.
It was a slow day on the railroad for some reason but I did get some good catches. My favorite was the train with the Heritage Unit and DPU on the rear working hard. Which train was your favorite?

Another excellent mixed freight with quite a few loads of coil steel. The coils likely weighed 30 to 35 thousand pounds each judging from the number loaded on each car. There were 176 cars and it had a mid-train DPU! An awesome train and fantastic catch, JT! Thank you very much!! 😃😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤❤

That was a great mixed freight led by a beautiful Lackawanna heritage locomotive! It had a nice variety of different cars, including a four compartment tank car! I find that very exciting. I don't see multiple compartment tank cars very often. Although they are quite common on truck trailers. Very good catch, JT. Thank you very much! 😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤

Your railfanning in Hamilton, Ohio and Seven Mile, Ohio on 15 August 2024 makes a fantastic video, Jaw Tooth! The catch of the Norfolk Southern's Lackawanna Heritage unit on the lead of the train in Seven Mile, Ohio was a moment of surprise. I have not seen many videos with the Lackawanna Heritage unit as part of the motive power on a train. Thank you for turning around to capture that last train on this video. There is little left of the Beckett Paper Company building left. I presume that what remained of the walls of the building after the fire was knocked down before you went to Hamilton on 15 August 2024. It is interesting to see the steel fire escape is still in place on the track side of the building. (Posted 17 August 2024 at 1945 CDT.)

I (really) hate to disappoint -- much less correct -- you, but the "Lackawanna" was NOT "PART" of the the DL&W...it WAS the DL&W...the word "Lackawanna" -- placed on DL&W rolling stock and locomotives -- was merely a shortened "version" of writing-out the railroad's long name.

DPU NS3671 is a ET44AC Tier 4 unit. All that extra stuff to make it T4 makes all the fans fairly whine.

We're still working on increasing the railfanning opportunities between Huntington and Point Pleasant. The Nucor Plant (YUGE) being built in Mason County is supposed to be done by the end of next year. We'll probably have some loads before long that'll warm your face up when they pass.
It's still a single line subdivision, but they've been spending a lot on upgrades.

CSXT 900045 (caboose) is being used as a shoving platform for the conductor. All they need on it is an air horn like NS 555512. One source said they welded the doors shut for the shoving platforms, but it is obvious that is not the case. The conductor can get in and sit down ot of the weather in long moves.

Yeah, JT talking about that papermill fire Joey was there that day that it was burning while the fire department was still trying to put it out and the outer brick of it was still standing three stories high next to the railroad and Norfolk Southern and CSX was there so they bought in a long reach excavator One that has a real long boom, and the operator got in between the railroad tracks and that wall of bricks, and he started taking it down because it was leaning toward the tracks, and they knew of a train came through there that the vibration from the train would make the wall fall But anyway, he got all of that down and there was two smokestacks there and if you noticed they ain’t but one now because the fire had damaged that one so bad they had to take it down to and when it fell or I should say when the operator pushed on it, it fell across the burning building And fell into the road right next to it where they had those two cones in the middle of the crossing and if you’ll look at that building on side of that road there’s a tree there well it came so close to that building that it actually broke the limbs out of that tree so they had to get up there and trim those limbs outbut there was thousands of bricks laying in the middle of that road but anyway, my friend another awesome video and as always you stay safe out there and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one

Oddly enough I found out about the old mill fire in Hamilton on a Facebook video that showed up in my feed. On a side note former CCET 330 (now CWW) SD45 is getting a rebuilt 645-16 prime mover installed in place of the 20 cylinder and being put up for sale.

Great video! I was in Hamilton a week before you and saw the same gp38-2 and caboose I went down to the CSX yard and watched move around cars, I also saw a high speed NS train. I have a video of them on my channel. Anyway what I wanted to say is a great place for videos is Conneaut, OH on the CSX Erie west subdivision. It has 70-75 trains in a 24 hour span. And I’ve seen lots of engines from different railroads in a 2 day span including KCS, CP, CN, and UP.
