  • The concluding day of this epic ride. Climbing one of Europe's greatest roads which ends with perhaps the best switchback descent on the planet. There will be plenty of the usual moans as my legs are tested to their max. But also moments of sheer joy as the jaw-dropping scenery rewards my hard work! I hope this journey will inspire others to have their own 2 wheel adventures. Would you cycle this route?

    Hi Matthew
    I’ve just taken a bikepacking from Göteborg to Stavanger over Moss, Horton, Latvia to Kristiansand, up the valley (road me.9) and over the the mountains to Lysebotn. Amazingly beautiful. And good I had not seen your videos before the trip, I may had been discouraged with the climbs 😅
    Thank you for sharing inspiring videos
    Amir

    Remember those switchback turns down to Lysebotn? Every year people compete on rollerskis to go up those...

    Came across your videos this week - amazing! I’m also a Brit living in Oslo, and started thinking about bikepacking around the country after driving to Stavanger in the summer...think I’m sold on the idea now! 👍🚴‍♂️

      Great to hear Alex, Norway was made for bikepacking! But keep off the E roads (where possible) and check tunnel access on every road: www.cycletourer.co.uk/maps/tunnelmap.shtml. - safe travels!

    Hi Matthew, I just found your videos about that amazing tour through Norway. I'll start such a journey in june this year and I'm really looking forward to it. My plan is to go from Oslo to Stavanger. The highest climb will be that one from Setesdal to Lysefjord, but after seeing your video, I'm sure it's worth the effort. Thanks a lot for your inspiration!

    Wow! Thank you for these great episodes. For an amateur video maker your videos a awesome and I especially like the storytelling. I had to watch all in a row.
    I'm now looking forward doing an adventure like yours myself.

    Hi Matthew, thanks for the amazing and epic vids and the inspiration. The pictures of the "snow-wall" on both sides of the street were incredible. Greeting from Berlin. Frank

    Retirement is around the corner and I'm turning my sites to trips further from home. Your videos of your travels in Norway have set my mind to dreaming. I prefer shorter days when touring, around 60 to 80 km tops. Are there any sections of this route that would require longer days due to a lack of safe camping? I'm thinking of late August or early September. I have a friend that lives in Stavanger. I'm thinking of Oslo to Stavanger via this route and returning to Oslo via the coastal route. Maybe taking 3 weeks for the trip.

      You will find accommodation options every 60km or so.

    So it wasn't an issue to go through the tunnel? Norwegian tunnels are typically off-limits for bicyclists.

    Hi Matthew, your journeys are inspiring. For a beginner would you recommend Oslo to Bergen or Oslo to Stavanger ?

    • @matthewnorway
      @matthewnorway  3 роки тому

      For a beginner neither. They're both very tough routes over the longest mountain range in Europe. For a beginner from Oslo I would recommend the flat coastal route to Kristiansand or Stavanger.

    Great videos mate, really well edited and put together with an English sense of humor. I'm a brit in Oslo too and already have my cycling hat (or helmet) on planning a route for next spring/summer... avoiding the dread tunnels where possible. Cant wait!

    So fun to watch! Very well edited video aswell! Did Kristiansand - Stavanger in a weekend this summer, and Kristiansand - Hovden - Kristiansand aswell the next weekend. But my longest trip was Norway from Lindesnes in the south to Nordkapp in the north in 2019, what an adventure! I'm looking for the next one now, thinking about Northcape4000 bike adventure. Have u gone biking in Europe on longer journeys before?

    • @matthewnorway
      @matthewnorway  2 роки тому

      Yes I think you should do Northcape 4000! I’ve done a few journeys in Europe but Longest was 4500km around Norway.

    In answer to your question 'where in the world do you get to do something like this' - New Zealand. Swap ya! Norway is on a dance card for a return visit but by bike..when our government lets us out to play....

    Beautiful video! I cycled most of your route when I bikepacked between Skien and Jæren last june, and it is fun to see a recap of all the amazing roads. Espesially the suleskardroad was just incredible, and I was even so lucky to have a strong tailwind, that basically pushed me over the mountain. But I must says that I am glad that my setup wasn’t as heavy as yours though, since I only was riding for a few days. There were some hard climbs!

    • @matthewnorway

    Amazing Journey and Great Content! Im planning to do a similar trip in June during a worcation. This means ill need internet, a table and preferably an electric socket. Was there internet connectivity while you were biking / at your campsites? And are there cabins with tables around? Cheers, I appreciate it

    • @matthewnorway
      @matthewnorway  2 роки тому

      I wouldn't rely on good internet at campsites but most will have some form of wifi. Yes there are cabins with tables around.
