I’ll always have love for Jasmine Guy, because when I saw her in the movie “School Daze” back in 1988, I wrote her a letter and asked her for an autographed picture. I never thought she would even read it, but shortly after, I received a 12 x 9 inch, gorgeous autographed pic of her in the mail. I still have it to this day. It’s still the most beautiful pic of her that I’ve ever seen. 🌹❤️
Wow really dope! Do you still have it
Wow! That's amazing. She used to be so damn fyne back then.
@@williammauesby1901 Yes! 😁
WOW! SO AWESOME!!!! I still have a crush on Whitley after all these years lol

Dwayne stealing her away from Byron Douglass at the wedding is one of the most iconic episodes in TV history!

Now that was a moment in tv history!!💯
Getting ya supposed to be fiancé taken during your wedding is some nasty work 😂
30 years later, I still watch like this🫣
It's still not her favorite, though. 😆
This is a whole 'sitting with your favorite Aunty' conversation. Love her!
Yes, it was a great conversation/interview.

Jess, " he was fine as 💩." She is hilarious😂😂😂😂
Jasmine reminds me of Ruby Dee when she speaks in interviews. The mannerisms and facial expressions.
Yes Indeed!! Ruby Dee mannerisms for sure; voice and everything!!
What a compliment!!!!
Omg yes so true!
You’re absolutely right
Jasmine should stop. All these, "what I deserved"... It's an ugly look. Entitled. So many people in Hollywood have the same story.
Miss Jess was so respectful to Ms. jasmine Guy. There was a point in the interview that Ms. Guy was tearful and concerned about her lashes and Miss Jess told Ms. Guy you are good like I have been watching you and I would let you know if they were noticeably awkward. She is humble and very kindhearted and respectful to her elders.
Thank you Miss Jess.

This lady is witty, quick, and funny. It's a blessing to grow old.
She’s 62 not 82. What do you mean “quick & witty”?
What the hell are you talking about? She's 62.....that's it. Not 82 or 92......
Damn, you act like she should be slow and losing her mind. She's ONLY 62! Grow old!? Are you kidding me?
So all of yall acting like 62 wasn't considered old just 10 years ago. When i was a kid 62 was damn near dead. Only recently have we started considering 50s and 60 as "still young" smh
@@Alr1ghtyThen , not “young” but definitely not one foot in the grave..10yrs ago, no, 62 was still considered “elderly” just not senile. Though a lot of 62yr seasoned people are in better shape as of late, it’s still has never been considered as “young”, 20yrs ago, or now.
No disrespect of Ms. Guy will ever be tolerated. These are always the best interviews where respect and decorum is shown. We all gravitate towards the crazy, but these are where the gems for life truly come from.

It’s no secret, Black talent has never been given the recognition it deserves!
I disagree 😊
Oh absolutely and not to mention the funding too 💰💲💰
I disagree.. She had her moment, she recorded an album that flopped, she had her time in major motion pictures but she didn't connect with movie goers. She did Broadway as well...
Her biggest competition was Vanessa Williams and whenever Vanessa ended up pregnant and couldn't accept a gig, they would call Jasmine.. Vanessa at one point was bigger than Halle Berry..
Not all Black performers will have equal careers.. Jasmine lack acting skills beyond the Whitley character for many years.
Really, Oprah, Cosby, Ali, Tyler Perry, Michael Jackson, Mayweather, Kanye, Jordan, LeBron, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and dozens of others have not been properly recognized... right 😅
@@leonweech
Yeah, we fail to recognize the great things people of color have done in the entertainment industry but yet love hopping on the narrative that Blacks aren't recognized for their contributions..
If we read some of the autobiographies of some of the White entertainers of the golden era of Hollywood, we'd know that many of them were treated like trash by the studio system and once these entertainers were no longer making money for the studios, the talent was kicked to the curb literally.. Hollywood is not an industry for sissies..
Everyone talks about how Jada is always crying when she talks about Pac, but a lot of people, who really knew, and understood him cry at the thought of his memory, that’s how impactful he as a whole human was and is.
Exactly! My best friend recently passed away and she, too, was 1 of 1 and everyone, including me, speak of her in tears. No one else was like her. I understand why and how people felt about Pac and his genuine personality because I had a person like that in my life...and what an honor it is to have known someone like that.

I wanted to go to Hampton because of a Different World. I was not able to attend because I got pregnant with my son. When he graduated high school, I encouraged him to take his football talent to an HBCU. College visits with him was such an amazing experience. He settled on Savannah State and I was ecstatic !! Unfortunately the pandemic cancelled the football program, but he stayed because he enjoyed the experience. Ultimately he joined the US Army… and today he’s an Army Sergeant WITH an HBCU experience! I love that for him! I will ALWAYS love A Different World for planting that seed for us ❤️.
Tell him go OCS if he can even if he doesn't want to go career.
Boy the way people who knew Pac talk about him always gets me. It's clear he was consistently and unapologetically himself at all times with everyone around him. And the way people tear up reflecting on him... he was 1 of 1 for sure.

Nah!
Wow, the depth of her conversation about her journey in the industry should be textbook mandatory. Big ups for sharing the hidden moments with Tupac. Unheard by si many.
Jasmine!!! I love her! What a great interview! I was fortunate enough to had worked with her on a photo shoot in NYC back when she did Chicago on Broadway. I had worked hard to get her little black dress she wore for the shoot so it would fit her perfectly. With the help of a body double to represent, I took a risk and sized that dress smaller and shorter (sexier) than you would get off the rack. I almost died when she said to me thank you. So very sweet she was to me. She put me at ease from the pressure of the situation. I for ever remember how truly beautiful she is inside and out. She is the real deal. I love her so much for being so real.

Oh, my gosh. Her comment about being told her show was number two because it came between two other shows is shocking to me. I was a nerdy gay white kid in the suburbs of Northern Virginia, and I loved A Different World and it had a tremendous impact on me. I took African American literature and history classes in college because I was naturally interested in learning more about what I had learned from A Different World and *not* in public schools. The characters were funny, the performances were funny and often surprisingly moving, and the writing was bold, honest and informative. I think it was a hugely important show beyond being an entertaining one.
And it's to Jasmine Guy's great credit that the show was created for the talented and stunning Lisa Bonet as a star vehicle and Guy's Whitley Gilbert transitioned from being a memorably scene-stealing cartoonish sidekick to thr heart of the show. (Although I have to say Charnele Brown's Kim is equally memorable in my mind. Some of her storylines and performances were unexpected gut punches.)
And considering how diametrically opposed Guy's real persona and her Whitley persona are, she's a really striking talent who definitely deserved greater appreciation while this show aired.
