@@markcook3913 Well he was one of the people to meet the Toad Sage, he wrote the book that essentially dictated the path of Naruto's life, he taught Naruto how to walk on water when Ibisu was becoming an impatient biaaaaatch, he became Konohamaru's unofficial sensei and taught him (technically he taught himself) how to perform rasengan (after Jiraiya taught him), which is essentially carrying on his fathers jutsu to another Hokages grandson-who (3rd Hokage) was the carrier of basically all Hidden Leaf jutsu, and Jiraiya was taught the rasengan by the 4th (Narutos father). He sacrificed himself to convey information about Pain that he knew only Naruto would be able to understand based on his familiarity with Makeout-Tactics, due to being around Jiraiya so much. Without Jiraiya, there's no Naruto. Without the prophecy of Naruto and Nagato, there is no Jiraiya.

It was never revealed what would've been the real outcome if they fought. But the reality is, Itachi just didn't want to fight at all against Konoha. He went there to send an indirect message that the Akatsuki is targeting Naruto which I'm sure Jiraiya understood.
Kishimoto didnt make itachi a spy for konoha until shippuden his intentions at the beginning was that itachi was just evil he wasnt suppose to be some good guy pretending to be bad

Jiraiya had sage mode which no one was beating at the time, tons of experience, great summonings, multiple Justus for every situation, shit he was trained under the third hokage who was badass himself.
Jairya would get bodied by orochimaru, kisame based on his fight with guy would end Jairya, itachi genjutsu 1 shot an on guard orochimaru, orochimary fought against 4 tailed click naruto with both his hands sealed snd 99% of his jutsu gone. While hairya gets 1 shot by no cloak beast for messing with a seal. Tldr jairya isn't impressive.
How humble of these two elite ninjas. Knowing the enemies capabilities and respecting it, but knowing oneself capabilities is even more important. Master Jaraiya is a master but those two are very close to becoming a master simply because of their knowledge.

This goes right in line with Pain admitting that if Jiraiya knew his secret, he would have mollywhopped him. Jiraiya was a beast and all the other beasts knew it.
The reason why Itachi was hesitant was not only was he undercover and Loyal to the Leaf was also Kisame was placed as his partner to keep an eye on him so if he saw Itachi Holding back he would have sent a message directly to Pain. It was also Itachi knew about Senjutsu he did not know Sage Jutsu he just knew it existed and Jiraiya knew Sage Mode and was Quite Aware Sage Mode would be more than he and Kisame could handle - This was stated in the Itachi Daylight Novel
No fking way jiraiya can go in sage mode to begin with, the only reason he got it in the rain village was because of the pipe gaps just running through them and non stop running away from pain there is no way he can do something like that in any other area
This the time when the story wasn't as developed, kishimoto wanted to make Jiaraya "that" strong a holage level strong, but didn't himself know that he would make Kisame a jinchuriki level and Itachi a hokage level. He wanted to level but the game so only way he knew was to make previous bad-ass villian who killed a 4th kazekage (Gaara's Father) and 3 Hokage get one shoted by Itachi and Pain and then by Sasuke, just to developed the new generation. Jiraya, Orichimaru and Tsunade were basically like 3 hokage team. So kisimoto didn't himself know who in the akatsuki didn't know there was guy named Madara played by obito, Nagato of the rinnegan, Itachi of MS, Kisame the Tailless Tailed Beast. I don't think he held back but he was distracted and uncertain because of Pain s secret. It's difficult to beat an unkillable opponent and pain was multiple "god level" puppets so Jiraiya realised going all out that without finding out the secret and the smallest chance he were to lose then he would have condemned Konoha and the rest of the world to much greater chances of absolute destruction, it was too great a risk so he was at a big disadvantage but still had he been given a little more time he would have won imo
I want whatever you're smoking. Sage wasn't even a thing yet. At no point was he the strongest in the series. He's stated to be the second strongest in his own group. Honestly kisame and him would be a crazy fight. I'd love to see that. Guy had to open 7 against him and with 8 hes stronger than anyone. Jiraya is tough but he falls short of itachi (like most do)

This itachi is ill and is saving his mangekyou for sasuke. He cant win against jiraiya without mangekyou. So even if he fights jiraiya, he’ll go blind trying to win. So itachi loses even if he wins because those eyes were for sasuke. Secondly, jiraiya has way more chakra than itachi. So if jiraiya draws the battle out, itachi will lose since he hasn’t got the stamina to keep fighting for long. Jiraiya will also most likely try to draw out the fight since it increases his chances of entering sage mode. With sage mode, kisame will die if he tries to absorb jiraiya’s chakra by turning to stone, and itachi will just get outclassed because jiraiya will be too fast for amaterasu (not to mentionhe can seal it). His physical prowess will surpass itachi. And his jutsu will be amplified.

People, Itachi wasn't a spy for Konoha at this point when the show was being made. The plotline of Itachi being "the good guy" was thought of much later down the line. So at this moment, Itachi was serious about not being able to beat jiraiya.

Jiraiya did bring back at least one Uv the pains to the leaf. In his early days. 3rd even complemented him on going to mt. Myobukou. Then learning sage mode on his own well help from the frogs. Not the village ninjas. Also. 3rd knew he so much potential. He could've been the next hokage. His name was brought up twice but he decided it wasn't for him and to keep traveling and oogling over ladies.

They weren’t bluffing. Jiraiya was that strong. If he knew the secret behind Pain before fighting him he would have also won that fight. Point being if you’re a real person and your tried to fight this man he would destroy you. Pain’s bodies couldn’t feel etc which is why they were even able to fight him and on top of that he destroyed a few which were later revived because he knew nothing about Pain.

In the OG Naruto, I remember when Orochimaru got this hands sealed off, he genuinely said that Itachi was more powerful than him and now he can't even touch him after his all Jutsu sealed off. Itachi being powerful than Orochimaru who couldn't take his body was the fact that he left the Akatsuki in the first place. So, I think Itachi just don't wanna fight Jiraya here and even stop Kisame to fight him cause Jiraya is one of the last few best shinobi of the leaf village and they needed one after what Orochimaru did to the village in the previous arc.
Jiraya would’ve clapped them both at this point. He’s immune to gengutsu and was literally better in all aspects then both. Especially if he went sage mode.

To be clear, frog bosses knew about situation with Konoha, that’s why three of them came to aid. Summons aren’t always available, that’s why sometimes it requires time to perform summoning like during Jiraya’s final battle. And yeah, each Kisame and Itachi more than capable to take him down. They’re like 3rd and 4th Akatsuki members in terms of power.
In my opinion, Itachi can't really win against Jeraiya. We all saw how he fought with pain and during that time itachi had a sickness and fading powers because of his eyes.
@danracoma9616 h2h would definitely be tough. Base jaraiya would definitely have his hands full. Itachis biggest strength is really not talked about much. Itachi like kakashi breaks down their opponent and finds the best way to defeat them. Itachi has more feats to pull from in the lite novels. I don't think itachi would fight jaraiya head up tajitsu or ninjutsu, and if he did, he'd lose. I think he'd attempt to use genjutsu and if need be susano'o. Itachi knows he would definitely lose a battle of stamina, so he would try to end it quickly.
Man there is something about the animation in part 1 that ada a lvl of drip and style to the image on screen. Just the way their clothes sway in the wind and the colors just pop. I love part ones over all look and feel.

Yea a near death orchimaru. With the totska blade... Jiraiya can't be touched by that thing but everything else, Jiraiya can hard counter. There's a clone of him in Boruto who went toe to toe with Jigen who is by far stronger than most pre war Naruto villains.
Itachi was not afraid of jiraiya. He said that so they wouldn't have to fight jiraiya because it itachi isn't an enemy of the leaf. He needed to protect the leaf and not blow his cover at the same time.
That's a good point, but still not evidence that what he said isn't true. A fight between them would not have ended well for Itachi, even if he won, especially in his current state.

Not enough evidence? Of what? That both Kisame and Itachi are way stronger? They’re monsters who due to their best feats could have destroyed Konoha there and then, and literally no one among leaf shinobi had strength to stop them. If they both tried to fight him jiraiya could have easily summoned todes like Naruto. The power scale was different back then. There are a lot of little inconsistencies like that, like the Third Hokage is said to be the most powerful Hokage while fighting Orochimaru, only loosing to the 4th. While it's very clear that the 1st is actually an absolute beast in the end, way above any other Hokage when it comes to raw power.
Remember Itachi was working for konoha undercover, when talking about anyone from the village who were viewed as strong, Itachi basically put them on a pedestal in hopes to prevent the akatsuki from attacking konoha. I’m terms of raw power he can dumpster jiraiya(if lore stands true)

actually this was mistranslated if im correct. in the manga,itachi said he can go toe to toe with jiraiya but both of them will die or be badly hurt. now for the part where it doesn't makes sense "if i had more backup it will be the same" since he can go toe to toe with him so that means its only there to pacify kisame. Note: if im correct again, itachi and jiraiya both has the same overall stats in the databook when both of them was introduced. now for the last part, kisame was not saying that uchiha clan and the seven swordsmen was going to to be dragged to the mud by jiraiya. what he said there in the manga was the title of uchiha clan killer or seven swordsman pales in comparison to the title of the legendary sanin. and itachi also said here which was i think cut out from the anime, "but even he(jiraiya) has a weakness" as itachi this time was known to be super smart and can exploit weakness(cunning) hinting he has a chance againts him.
People always forget that Jiraiya was the only one among the sannin to master sage mode that was so powerful that first hokage used to combat Madara. So yeah, what they said was valid both, and even multiple members will meet their end if they face Jiraiya.

The reason why Itachi was hesitant was not only was he undercover and Loyal to the Leaf was also Kisame was placed as his partner to keep an eye on him so if he saw Itachi Holding back he would have sent a message directly to Pain. It was also Itachi knew about Senjutsu he did not know Sage Jutsu he just knew it existed and Jiraiya knew Sage Mode and was Quite Aware Sage Mode would be more than he and Kisame could handle - This was stated in the Itachi Daylight Novel

This the time when the story wasn't as developed, kishimoto wanted to make Jiaraya "that" strong a holage level strong, but didn't himself know that he would make Kisame a jinchuriki level and Itachi a hokage level. He wanted to level but the game so only way he knew was to make previous bad-ass villian who killed a 4th kazekage (Gaara's Father) and 3 Hokage get one shoted by Itachi and Pain and then by Sasuke, just to developed the new generation.

This itachi is ill and is saving his mangekyou for sasuke. He cant win against jiraiya without mangekyou. So even if he fights jiraiya, he’ll go blind trying to win. So itachi loses even if he wins because those eyes were for sasuke.
Secondly, jiraiya has way more chakra than itachi. So if jiraiya draws the battle out, itachi will lose since he hasn’t got the stamina to keep fighting for long. Jiraiya will also most likely try to draw out the fight since it increases his chances of entering sage mode.
With sage mode, kisame will die if he tries to absorb jiraiya’s chakra by turning to stone, and itachi will just get outclassed because jiraiya will be too fast for amaterasu (not to mentionhe can seal it). His physical prowess will surpass itachi. And his jutsu will be amplified.

To be clear, frog bosses knew about situation with Konoha, that’s why three of them came to aid. Summons aren’t always available, that’s why sometimes it requires time to perform summoning like during Jiraya’s final battle. And yeah, each Kisame and Itachi more than capable to take him down. They’re like 3rd and 4th Akatsuki members in terms of power.
In my opinion, Itachi can't really win against Jeraiya. We all saw how he fought with pain and during that time itachi had a sickness and fading powers because of his eyes.

Itachi like kakashi breaks down their opponent and finds the best way to defeat them. Itachi has more feats to pull from in the lite novels. I don't think itachi would fight jaraiya head up tajitsu or ninjutsu, and if he did, he'd lose. I think he'd attempt to use genjutsu and if need be susano'o. Itachi knows he would definitely lose a battle of stamina, so he would try to end it quickly.

They’re monsters who due to their best feats could have destroyed Konoha there and then, and literally no one among leaf shinobi had strength to stop them.
