When he found out Itachi used Kamui on Deidara, then saw Tobi use the same technique, until the flashback of Kakashi and Obito as children, At that time I was already suspicious about Obito's character, I just needed a trigger scene about Obito turning evil, I guessed it must be because of his female partner whose death had not been explained at that time. When everything was explained in flashback about his female partner, that's when I was sure that the masked man was Kakashi's partner (Obito) just an unexpected Black Zetsu.
The real problem here was hiruzens lack of political savviness .. this all could’ve been avoided if one he put Danzo in his place and if two he met with fugaku & give him a place atop the political seatings of the leaf. The uchiha just wanted to be heard and acknowledged as important members of the leaf village not just policed that were often frowned upon ..
Let’s not forget that sasuke was literally named after the 3rd hokages father, and not once did he even meet sasuke, train him or even acknowledge the fact his clan went out of their way to show him utmost respect as hokage. Even itachi bows down to the 3rd and he just totally middle fingers the uchiha and the 4th hokage. why would hiruzen spend his time to a flight risk ? the moment after Sasuke wake up from his coma because of tsukiyomi's trauma he has change into a "dark" child and after the massacre hiruzen was forced to make konoha still "look" strong to other hidden villages even after the massacre of uchiha clan. Regarding naruto he also doesn't have the time and he want to make a low profile for Naruto to prevent the slides in the village to know Naruto's heritage , the foolish thing he has done to Naruto is never assign a guardian or sent Naruto to Tsunade to be raised outside the village

I know a lot of people throw Danzo under the bus (and rightly so), but we don't see much of Fugaku, who was plotting the coup against the Village. Really unfortunate that Danzo didn't at least let Shisui use his Kotoamatsukami on Fugaku before taking Shisui's eye for himself (which he didn't even use against the Uchiha anyways). I don't think Danzo really cared about protecting the village, I think he just wanted to empower himself, kill any who would oppose him under the guise of "protecting the village". Danzo is definitely evil, and I don't know why Hiruzen never saw it. Or maybe he did, but because they were "friends" and grew up together, he turned a blind eye to it.

Whereas Tsunade hid in her office during the entire attack and sent the others are fodders, when did you ever see any other hokage hiding in their office, all of them immediately went to the battle ground. When it comes to Hiruzen he could create shadow clones each dealing with a Pain path, create barriers to mitigate damaged, he had Enma who could transform into a diamond staff which could reach far away so Shinra Tensei wouldn't be a problem

Fugaku and clan uchiha should have made a formal petition to the hokage. then public hearings, then petitioned to take his clan or at least those that wished to leave and moved to another ninja village preferably a smaller one so they could immediately step into a leadership role. 9:13 itachi trusts kakashi with his plans but he didn't want him to suffer the path he was about to take with him he was debating telling him about it but remained silent. 12:12 Kakashi was mislead by Danzo and because of it he felt like he didn't understand Itachi which he was and is always the person who understood him the most. They shared a unique bond Itachi always looked up to Kakashi because he kept it real with him. Kakashi genuinely felt disappointed that he lost someone who he could relate to on the terms of morality.
I liked the Itachi twist when I first read the manga, but honestly it still makes no sense to me. You're telling me EVERY SINGLE UCHIHA, MAN WOMAN AND CHILD, were dead set on overthrowing the village? Like you couldn't have killed (or even imprisoned) the perceived leaders? I mean if Itachi and Shisui were on the village's side SURELY there were a few others who either agreed with them or respected them enough to switch sides. I mean killing EVERYONE seems a tad overkill in my opinion. Even if you left a handful of them just to repopulate the clan (which would only benefit the village in the long run). And I know the argument would be that "any Uchiha spared would want to take revenge against Konoha, but A) not if they were either on the fence or disagreed with the rebellion, and B) they already spared Sasuke and he believed the lie for a long time there's no reason others wouldn't have as well.
Basically anyone left alive would still bare hatred against the village. Itachi knew he shouldn't leave any unfinished business. He couldn't kill his little brother, so he chose to bare his hatred. It's not that difficult to conceive. And it also makes sense.

The Uchiha surveillance is like what the American government did during WW2 after Pearl Harbor. All Japanese-American citizens were forced to re-locate to one open-air prison and be under 24/7 lockdown and spied upon. The Japanese citizens were eventually allowed to leave once WW2 ended, but they lost everything because of their forced lockdown. Property and money and all. Kishimoto has clearly been inspired by WW2 and its events when creating the backstory of the Uchiha's.
I Hiruzen should have necked Danzo....but doing so would start another civil unrest and distrust among the populations. The Leaf Village would have collapse and other nation was waiting to pounce on it. Hiruzen was playing it cool with Danzo....to protect/keep the village stable.

A cool what if scenario- what if hiruzen entrusted Itachi with annihilating danzo and the root? I always thought it was weird that the uchiha police force existed along side the root and the jonin. Let’s not forget that sasuke was literally named after the 3rd hokages father, and not once did he even meet sasuke, train him or even acknowledge the fact his clan went out of their way to show him utmost respect as hokage. Even itachi bows down to the 3rd and he just totally middle fingers the uchiha and the 4th hokage. You’d think he would have a training session with sasuke and naruto or atleast be man enough to tell them both he respected their fathers. So much wasted potential in this series lol

why would hiruzen spend his time to a flight risk ? the moment after Sasuke wake up from his coma because of tsukiyomi's trauma he has change into a "dark" child and after the massacre hiruzen was forced to make konoha still "look" strong to other hidden villages even after the massacre of uchiha clan. Regarding naruto he also doesn't have the time and he want to make a low profile for Naruto to prevent the slides in the village to know Naruto's heritage , the foolish thing he has done to Naruto is never assign a guardian or sent Naruto to Tsunade to be raised outside the village

The least he could’ve done is told naruto and sasuke their fathers importance during the 3rd war and maybe even spoke to them briefly about their abilities and then taught them a few ninjutsu. It would’ve been impossible for sasuke to leave the village if he actually felt connected to it.

I know a lot of people throw Danzo under the bus (and rightly so), but we don't see much of Fugaku, who was plotting the coup against the Village.
Really unfortunate that Danzo didn't at least let Shisui use his Kotoamatsukami on Fugaku before taking Shisui's eye for himself (which he didn't even use against the Uchiha anyways).
I don't think Danzo really cared about protecting the village, I think he just wanted to empower himself, kill any who would oppose him under the guise of "protecting the village".
Danzo is definitely evil, and I don't know why Hiruzen never saw it. Or maybe he did, but because they were "friends" and grew up together, he turned a blind eye to it.

Whereas Tsunade hid in her office during the entire attack and sent the others are fodders, when did you ever see any other hokage hiding in their office, all of them immediately went to the battle ground. When it comes to Hiruzen he could create shadow clones each dealing with a Pain path, create barriers to mitigate damaged, he had Enma who could transform into a diamond staff which could reach far away so Shinra Tensei wouldn't be a problem

Kakashi was mislead by Danzo and because of it he felt like he didn't understand Itachi which he was and is always the person who understood him the most. They shared a unique bond Itachi always looked up to Kakashi because he kept it real with him. I liked the Itachi twist when I first read the manga, but honestly it still makes no sense to me. You're telling me EVERY SINGLE UCHIHA, MAN WOMAN AND CHILD, were dead set on overthrowing the village? Like you couldn't have killed (or even imprisoned) the perceived leaders? I mean if Itachi and Shisui were on the village's side SURELY there were a few others who either agreed with them or respected them enough to switch sides. I mean killing EVERYONE seems a tad overkill in my opinion. Even if you left a handful of them just to repopulate the clan (which would only benefit the village in the long run). And I know the argument would be that "any Uchiha spared would want to take revenge against Konoha, but A) not if they were either on the fence or disagreed with the rebellion, and B) they already spared Sasuke and he believed the lie for a long time there's no reason others wouldn't have as well.

The Uchiha surveillance is like what the American government did during WW2 after Pearl Harbor. All Japanese-American citizens were forced to re-locate to one open-air prison and be under 24/7 lockdown and spied upon. The Japanese citizens were eventually allowed to leave once WW2 ended, but they lost everything because of their forced lockdown. Property and money and all. Kishimoto has clearly been inspired by WW2 and its events when creating the backstory of the Uchiha's.

A cool what if scenario- what if hiruzen entrusted Itachi with annihilating danzo and the root? I always thought it was weird that the uchiha police force existed along side the root and the jonin. He would’ve been a true double agent having killing danzo and then joining the akatsuki. In boruto it’s revealed the shins were created by Orochimaru which is how danzo got his arm. Itachi would have 100% hunted him down and killed him for experimenting on his kinsmen. And maybe even taking the shins in jump starting konoha’s ninja tech/science as the shins are capable of cloning themselves and even advanced surgery. So many ways this could go

And also stupid technology where any kid can absorb any ninjutsu ever no matter how powerful. It's become ridiculous.
