Grew up with Richard presenting Countdown, coming home from school everyday and countdown starting. R.I.P Richard Whiteley. Carol kept it together during this interview, credits due.
I remember when he died. I was so young but I was so upset! I would come home from school everyday and watch Countdown with my mum & dad! After he passed I've NEVER watched it again.
I remember the day my friend told me and my mum was such a massive fan of countdown she was quite upset she said countdown just wasn’t the same after he sadly passed and then Carol then left. She watches it every now and again but not as much as she did. I think Carol is a really intelligent woman she’s like Matilda with all the mathematic equations. She’s incredibly likeable and does look gorgeous.
Richard's death was the end of the Countdown we loved. Carol left soon afterwards. Now it's just a nothing show. Richard's humour, humility & occasional faux pa's made the programme what it was - a lovely, gentle show. R. I. P. Richard - a gentleman to the end.
I've mentioned before I met Carol once, she's a highly attractive genuine person who makes time for people, it's not her style to complain or look down on anyone, I imagine her and Mr Whiteley had that in common. I thought it worth mentioning as there's a few stupid people still posting childish remarks for reasons only they know.
@Ray She looks fine to me, her face just looks normal. Doesn't seem frozen or deformed in any way. Some women just make themselves look really weird as they age, but I don't think she has. She'll have gone on about it because she was asked to. Plus she was grieving. And she was a person in the public eye, his widow was not.
Richard stayed loyal to Countdown from 1982 until his death in 2005. Have you noticed since they brought in new hosts, none of them have stayed any longer than Richard's tenure. Des Lynam 2005-2006 (1 year). Des O'Connor 2007-2008 (1 year). Jeff Stelling 2009-2011 (2 years). Nick Hewer 2012-2021 (9 years), and now Anne Robinson due to start in 2021.
@@digitalmediafan I think Annie could have pulled it off in the past but not after doing 12 years of The Weakest Link (which has also been repeated constantly ever since). Her image as a nasty presenter is too ingrained for her to fit into Countdown. I don't see her lasting.
Maybe Richard wouldn't want us to be sad! So if you want a good laugh look up The full version of The Countdown "Gotcha" with Noel Edmonds. Richard was 'done like a kipper' as they say but he really took it like a sport.
I still find Countdown to be a pretty good bit of television, Colin Murray is a very enthusiastic presenter but... the warmth and banter between Whiteley and Vorderman is still unrivalled To this day Whiteley's passing is still heartbreaking to consider RIP Richard, the man who wore his heart, on his tie... 👔
Stelling was genuinely brilliant, had he stayed for a few more years I truly think he could've made it his own... dratted Richard Keys! Could say the same for O'Connor had he been younger when he did the show
4:36 The conundrum for that programme was actually "SIGNATURE" but neither of the contestants solved it so they had to do another one which is when that really weird coincidence occurred 😮
Another very sad coincidence, on the very last numbers game of Richards last show, when carol picked the number tiles from the rack they were in the shape of a cross 😢 RIP Richard
God you're right, I just watched that. And it's strange because the other times the placement is so sporadic all over the board. So so weird that the final ever numbers game she did with Richard was a deliberate cross. Weird!!
Oh, so richard didn't die after all, he's still alive. Why didn't you tell someone sooner. And there we all were thinking he had died. Boy, do we feel stupid now.
@@lfc_40 Absolutely. Telling someone who's grieving that the person is still alive is inhuman, cruel, insulting and offensive. You're effectively saying that their grief is unimportant and irrelevant to you. It's just a way of saying what you really mean - that you don't care about someone's grief while pretending that you do. Dismissing or not allowing someone to express their grief by telling them that the person is still alive is psychologically damaging. Let people grieve instead of telling them that you don't care and using it as an opportunity to proselytize - it's disgusting behaviour.
Why has nobody uploaded the Rolf Harris episode of Life Stories? It'd be interesting to watch it now he's dead and we know much more about him since the episode was made.
That's why Piers Morgan's a f*cking twat. If I was to host a talk show where someone cries in front of me talking about something that had traumatized him/her, I'd hand them a tissue!
Yes Richard and carol both did countdown and made it work and it is still going strong today with Colin and Rachel taken over also Susie dent to xxxlol all the best to all ❤❤❤
Very moving - although I'm not sure about those questions being asked on air. Must've been awkward for the partners of Richard & Carol, them having this obvious emotional connection (although I do remember episodes where she was in a surly mood with Richard: real ups and downs, just like a marriage)
You can see carol in tears after losing a good friend Richard whiteley after they were together for 23 years on channel 4s countdown since it began in 1982
Yes it does seem that as humans we get our entertainment watching other people suffer. just goes to show how stupid we are as people. Try and have some thoughts for Carol.
I think Carol's memory got slightly mixed up. The first show broadcast that week he introduced it as "welcome to the final week of Countdown.... (long pause) of the series!" Which Carol clearly didn't like him saying.
Bullshit, he's a tv personality and had to make her talk about it, it's as simple as that. Since she had such a close relationship with Whiteley, her providing insight helps us all understand how awesome he was.
God Rest Your Soul Richard Whiteley home to Heaven Amen xxx it upset me seeing Carol Vorderman upset like this God Bless You Carol Vorderman Amen xxxxxxx

im sorry but all these shows are to make a program of false tears, and trivial stories, that are not really true of how people truly thought about each other. Vordeman was a money driven person, ambitious ball buster.
Whiteley and Vorderman were countdown. Today's version is just a shadow of its former self.

It was so sad what happened. R.I.P Richard Whiteley you are sadly missed.
I grew up watching Countdown who presented the late Richard Whiteley back in the day. I still miss him. 😢
I remember when he died. I was so young but I was so upset! I would come home from school everyday and watch Countdown with my mum & dad! After he passed I've NEVER watched it again.
So miss Richard, a true gentleman. I grew up with him at school, college and Uni. Then at work pulling a sick day.

Yes, all these 'apterites' and the cheating that goes on. Jeffrey Hansford being the prime example.........
Still breaks me now. I grew up with Richard presenting Countdown.

Yes probably the worse choice in it’s history to have Anne Robinson on it with that queen whine she has, dire

@@djtaylormade1195 For your information Anne has quit countdown
Just shows the special bond Richard Whitley is a TV legend loved seeing him in the Bosses chair he was perfection.

My late mother also cryed like Carol
Carol definitely improved with age......looks stunning at 45.....
She's clearly had a lot of work done. That's why.
So much makeup, knowing she’ll be upset and crying!
carol taught me the 2 times table on her video on vhs
very sad Richard he passed away countdown was never the same when Richard died.
Very touching....
Carol you know mathematically there are no coincidences he had to go to carry out a new job, people like Richard become angel's ❤️👍
aww bless carol you were ace with Richard
Countdown hasn't been the same since really, Jeff Stelling was the closest to recapturing the fun of Whiteley Countdown.
There simply wasn't anyone big enough to fill his shoes.
Des O'Conner was also closet to Richard, but as you say Countdown hasn't been the same since his passing.
Stelling was genuinely brilliant, had he stayed for a few more years I truly think he could've made it his own... dratted Richard Keys!
Could say the same for O'Connor had he been younger when he did the show
I remember shopping with my mum and sister when we found out the news, I just froze and didn't want to believe it

She's an absolute beauty. If only I was 20 years older.

He doesn't do soft.
