Test & Comparison Vo.1(Ribbon Mic)

This video is a comparison & test of ribbon microphones. The microphones are Royer R121, Samar Audio VL37, Beyerdynamic m160, and AEA KU5A.

Thank you for doing this, it really allows us to see the subtle difference between the mics. I wonder if the differences in proximity to the center of the soundhole made a difference, though?

All sound good but different from each other, just depends on what you want in the track.

The samar has the least amount of high end. I also liked it.

Putting your well made ribbon microphone s in front of the opening of a guitar is like using a Ferrari to tow a luxury yacht. Really, when placing these mics they should be stacked up as horizontally is where we hear the largest shift in eq response and timbre differentiation with a guitar because this is the direction the strings are pulling and pressing.
To get a balanced sound out of these mics they must be a meter+ away, I prefer 1.5-2m from the instrument.
I hope you are considering doing this test again because your playing is great but your engineering needs some study time.
