Thank you Andy for your view on the rifle. You right to say it is good. I didn't realize how good it was until I bought a .177" with a laminate stock. Wow it's amazing! This is a precision rifle from it's engineering to it's accuracy. Everything about the RAW is solid. With it's beautiful light trigger, it makes this a delight to use. In my mind you are paying for a top quality rifle and using it has justified the price tag. Best regards Steve.

First time we've seen a "bad" review from Andy. That said he gave them plenty of time to amend the design and provide a response. Honesty, particularly when someone could spend £2k on rifles partly on online reviews is no doubt greatly appreciated.

Thank You. It was clear you did not enjoy the gun, especially at the price point. Yet you still managed to present a fair and honest review. Highlighting the positives and not dwelling on the negatives. I agree 100% on the safety. Turning off the safety should not increase the chances of an unintentional discharge. The price point on it is obscene, even by American standards. For 2 grand (3 when kitted out) I can purchase 2 well equipped rifles and have a few pennies left over.
Keep up the good work Andy, even us here in the colonies appreciate the quality of your reviews.

I think the idea is that it's much easier to make the gun safe and requires a conscious action to switch to the fire position, and there are military weapons that use a similar configuration, which suggests there must be a good reason for it.
All the same, it does look a little awkward to use, especially with such a light trigger.

The one thing I've learned and I'm 100% sure of is ,shooting is more fun with a more affordable rifle .
When I've been daft enough to take one of the ltd editions I've owned ( around 4 grand uk including the sightron scope )
I was more worried about damaging the laminate stock or would rain damage the silver finish etc etc , I enjoy it most when I'm out with a second hand hw100 that cost me 550 years ago , if I'm honest 50% of the higher end rifles I've owned such as an impact are to delicate for real field use, I speak from experience , don't get fooled into believing the more money you spend ,the better the rifle you will get, I still use two theoben rifles , an Mfr and ttr2 ,no gauges or quick fill connecters , and I enjoy those more than any of the high end and electronic action rifles I've owned ( that probably a bad example as they are becoming very rare and the value is ever rising ) my point is by a second hand rifle like a BSA super 10, they were once the flagship model of BSA but now they are a 20 year old design and the last incarnation hit the market about 16 years ago ,so you can get them cheap , they can keep up with all the stupid money rifles , ( damn I want an old super 10 now ,I'll go online in a mo lol)
All the best mate ,enjoy your shooting and stay safe 👍

@@aboutthemetal8783 I think the best I ever had was a HW87 back in the early nineties, bought it from a sisters bf but just decided in the last two or so years to revisit it, primarily as a 'prepping' or bugout tool, backup for the bow and other food means.
I'd want a springer for end times ofc but I designed a stock that wasn't breaker compatible and no way can I afford real pcp haha, but in the end as long as the lead gets to the head, it's all good 👍

Excellent review, as always. I love watching Andy tying himself in knots trying to find positive things to say when it's so obvious that he just doesn't like the gun. This looks like style over substance to me, they've ruined what could be a genuinely great gun in order to capture a bit of nostalgia appeal, it looks like the woodwork started off as a cricket bat and then had the minimum of machining done to make it function as a gunstock, which is a shame because the matching between the cheek-riser and the rest of the butt is fantastic and must have cost a mint. And I agree totally that the safety would have me accidentally firing it, with my big old hands. There are too many fantastic guns at the two grand mark for this to even get close to making my wants list, it isn't out-performing guns that cost half that and have far less coffin-shaped woodwork.

  • @Marcus_Shaw

    Great vid, many thanks.
I hate that type if in trigger safety having a very cheap Crosman copy of a Gamo set up like that.
In Sub12 doesn't stack up for the money when you could get an HW100 or S510 for half of that.

Good shot count, great cocking lever, well made , exellent trigger , superbly accurate, even keeping things tight an extra 10 metres further than you test other guns. Its a very negative review considering its plus points. From the intro of this review I was expecting a scatter gun made out of tin foil. Other than the high price, I quite like the look of it.

And that price tag.? The BSA / AA fair are getting on for half and at least there isn't a 12hr time difference to try and rectify a manufacturing fault
And while I'm on a rant (🙄) it's a crying shame that we have yet again had our engineering and design excellence farmed out, to become another country..... I've become my father 🤔

I don't know, for 2 grand I'd want something a bit more aesthetically pleasing, makes the BSA R12 look like bargain if you were to put them head to head. But that's just my opinion.
Honest reveiw though and a tough gun to pigeon hole, it's neither a rather or a bench rest but looks solid, like a big plank of wood should, maybe they should approach minelli for a style overhall, or is it a gun to be fettled by the owners to fit, like a target pistol.

Just an observation but this was tested at 50m in sub 12 and for comparison the r12 was shot at 40m ( which was also a .22) so from a review point of view it would be nice to shoot all sub 12’s at the same distance ( though the wind which you cannot control will have a direct effect )

Looks gorgeous but way too spendy for me to ever contemplate. Sounds like the stock could do with some fettling to get it more ergonomic (a custom job if you're already spending silly money) and the safety inside the trigger guard is just a bad idea. A cross-bolt safety in the same location would be far better.
I imagine in the higher calibres and power levels they'll need significantly longer barrels, making them even heavier and more unwieldy.

Well done on being honest Andy. After all, the manufacturers "should" be listening to the airgun community when it comes to R&D. Or perhaps not eh ?.

Andy you need to do a review on a Anschutz 9015. It'll be your new gold standard for a sub 12 target rifle 🙂

Hello Andy, I put off watching this video as I still have a Theoben Rapid in .20 calibre, and didn't want to hear that it's out of date. It probably is, but it's still better looking than that American take on the original idea by Ben and Dave in the time the internet forgot. I think that wood is designed for benchrest target work, that seems pretty popular over the pond and there's big money involved. As far as the magazine goes, that's a pet hate of mine, they're getting bigger and bigger which dictates the scope mounting options, fine if you're shooting prairie dogs at 100 yards but not when it's a rat 6' away.....

Yes a lot of money for that rifle.Didn’t like where the safety is and I think the lack of a moderater is poor for that money.
Well reviewed though Andy,Cheers and Atvb👍🏻😀

Great review Andy. Not sure I’m a fan of this one though. And at that price the world is your oyster really with 99% of sub 12’lb rifles.

No safety catch should ever be within the trigger guard. No idea why multiple airgun companies insist on doing this? :(

  • @williamlong2660

Where to start, well firstly this appears to be a Marmite gun, you either love plywood stocks or hate them and shape wise it has the ergonomics of a made in the shed special. To compare this gun with the Theobens of old is an absolute travesty in appearance, price and design, three grand, laugh and having spring to mind. As for the safety switch, whilst some which are close or indeed inbuilt in the trigger are acceptable this example to me is somewhat borderline to say the least. Next up for criticism is that magazine which thirty years ago was revolutionary but today l would expect to see on a budget gun; times and development have moved on, think Air Arms, BSA, HW etc. There are some good points however they are too few to mention and customer feedback seems of little importance to this manufacturer so probably best left in the gun shop. As always a thorough, well presented and more than fair review of a gun that only begs the question why even bother to test such an overpriced gun?
