Gave a whole new meaning to prop ventilation for me and since the impeller wasn't melted it might of just spun apart with no water resistance to slow it down. Damn, i'm not sure my new 2 stroke 15hp Suzuki could take that treatment. I tried to picture it but it was a nightmare unfolding.
I accidentally dropped an old mercury game fisher in a lake and recovered it three weeks later, dumped the old gas, blew it off with an air compressor and it fired up fine
I just saw the craigslist ad for it. "Like new motor, rarely used always garage kept. New hood..."

He is abusing the Yamaha 2 stroke 15hp motor to show viewers how well made it is. The compression is still the same after no cooling and being thrown in the water. The outboard motor is still good after the beating and can still be used on a boat.
He didint destroy it he tested it and it passed

Dirty China the ones on my Suzuki 15 just went out after 2 years and almost no use. (25 hours) I’m going to rebuild the gearbox and go back to my old 1970s mercury 15 after this. What a POS.

I have a 9.9c from 1980s it is still running like a new one. Yamaha is unbelievable and not to destroy.
It's summer 2024 and legend has it this outboard was since sold on Facebook marketplace multiple times and still going strong

I have an old 90's Yamaha brochure... the 8 horse version was advertised this way when they pulled one up from saltwater that was sitting for 3 years. full of barnacles. carb rebuild, soaked in oil and she fired right up!

Hi there, when changing and impeller do you have to change the gaskets or can you just put in a new impeller like you did in this video, because I’m now confused. My motor is a 30 hp tohatsu m30a3 and a whole impeller kit is $50-60 when an impeller is just ~$10

I killed my F250 Yamaha four stroke without trying. Never been able to kill any two stroke outboard of any kind.

I love Yamaha Outboards, even older 2 strokes. This is why Yamaha is so reputable, not to say they won't fail. but chances are a lot slimmer compare to other outboards.
Absolutely! I love merc as well but not as durable and anything less than 70 hp is tohatzu's which from experience is crapb

Thanks for your videos. Those are very interesting. So, I have decided to buy a 6 hp portable outboard for an inflatable boat. But there are several brands, and everyone says something about each brand which is very confusing. The dealers say their own ideas. But I’m wondering between Honda, Yamaha, Mercury, Suzuki and Tohatsu which one is better. So, would you please help me and tell which one of these brands is high quality and high performance? I’m in doubt between Suzuki, Honda, and Yamaha but I do not have any experience with the outboard at all. So please help me in this case and introduce the best option directly?

@NC Mountain Biking and Outdoors It,s because it,s simple carborator design, i think my Tohatsu 25 3 cyl four stroke fuel injection would died if do the same up here in Norway in the salt sea.But the engine is exellent and 12 years of much full throttle use and newer stop. But they not designed for this "heavy" use.

Gotta say yami motors are awesome but my old 70s evinrude 2 horse is a champ, cold start, few pulls and choke and it’ll start if he’ll freezes over. I don’t know how the new evinrudes are but I love to see Yamaha makin a quality machine like always!
I sunk a 1992 2 stroke mercury 25 while it was running wide open stayed in the bottom of a lake for about two hours got it up from the bottom got water out of carbs and pistons and she fired right up

Hi Eric, a couple of months ago I bought a used Yamaha 2 stroke 9.9 hp from I think 1984-85 something, and so the problem is that it doesn't on low speed, for example when I put it in reverse it just dies, and I have to start it at high speed, do you know what I can do? Please reply
Emil Westermark I would run a compression check. Also clean the carb and set the idle screw correctly.
@IAmNotToxic. RD No, I don't think the fuel is the problem.. I tried to run the motor yesterday and it started with choke and I new it was cold so I let it run for about a minute but then when i put the choke in again the motor died instantly, so I started it again with choke, it starded and so I put the choke in again and it died.....
You can't beat that Yam quality!
My problems with outboards reduced 99% when I switched from Johnson to Yamaha. John was 25 hp (2 stroke 2000 model), bottom spark plug was clear and wet, took the motor completely apart, could not figure out why it kept doing this. I simply could not get that motor running properly..
Now with Yamaha 25 hp since 2013 (2006 model 2 stroke)
ZERO PROBLEMS!
It's the head gasket on the Johnson. Water is leaking from the cylinder passages and into the cylinder. Replace the head gasket. Omc Johnson Evinrude is super reliable

The fuel consumption is better with an evinrude but fuck them they would probably die after 1 sec running out of the water. Yamahas are indestructible

Awesome video but I see you changing just the impeller for the water pump all the time better off spending the extra money and getting the impeller kit which comes with the seal the base plate amongst other things. Because if your water pump leaks water to your lower unit it is finished like I said better off spending the extra money on a impeller kit instead of just an impeller

Thats pretty much the compression they come with about 140 those engines are the most durable ever built ive had so many. IVE had brand new 4 stroke mercs live at the shop while if you take care of a yammy it last forever (I do love merc over 70 hp at least ) but for performance...other news red lining your engine with no load is horrible for your rings
The nice thing about the mercury outboard that I have is that the gear shift is on the steering stick. The engine is a 15 hp 2 stroke. (Sorry for the bad English.)
