Oh shit, Richey actually playing guitar instead of miming! It actually sounds pretty nice if you focus in on it. Shame he didn't play often, but his lyrical genius definitely made up for that in spades.
The greatest live performance of the greatest single ever released. The mixing shambles has just become part of it. Always remember thinking there was something wrong with my "If You Want Blood...." bootleg! PIL intro, balaclava, shouting, confrontation, Richey and Nick at their peak, nailing the solo, military post - punk drum genius. The pinnacle of music.
ignoring the Manics for the last ~23 years has been a wonderful idea. Now I can spend weeks listening to every single song and live recording I can find from them for the first time and scream with joy whenever I find something new. utterly fantastic band!
such a great song - the anger and rage from James is incredible! Inspite of the looming tragedy that lay ahead this really was the very high point of this band.
too bad... that most of "man-un-kind" would never understand this. The passion/fury, the ferocious delivery of the "live set"... the poke at PiL (if you know about THEM, you know that everything is a poke... a hint, or a reference) the wardrobe selection and the image projected all connect. Watch this twice... and take it all in. BEAUTIFUL!
If there was one ever set I would loved to have been at this was it. Gutted, the Manics at their very best and Glastonbury before it went truly commercial and full of poncy glancing types and girls with short shorts and hunter wellies on. Think was even in the good old days of channel 4 doing the coverage. Still, off to see the Holy Bible gig at the roundhouse this Dec....just a shame it's not gonna be raw like this, still a fookin top ten album of mine.
Riff, riff, riff, all while singing like that !! I wish I had ever been within a small percentage of this man's talent during my brief stint doing the same job !! James Dean Bradfield, you sir are a bona fide rock god !!
I was 11 you, so I’ve missed it all at that time. I just wish I was 18/20 for being there! It’s only me having meloncholy of a time never lived in?🤷♀️
I dont think the rest of the band saw it coming, Richey was in the best frame of mind he'd been in for along time. But who knows what was going round his head, i know hes still sadly missed by loads of fans.I was never lucky enough to see them as a 4 piece very jealous!!!! seen them 6 times thoe.
This exact performance of this very song was the highlight of the bands entire history! I had this on a bootleg back in the 90's and it would send shivers down my spine!
Richey only mimed in the real early days.. he got a lot better at the end, which is why he's turned up so loud here. There's one video floating around where James' guitar dies during Motown Junk and Richey plays about half the song by himself. :)
Absolutely perfect up until the 1 minute mark when James' guitar gets turned down. Sound guy assuming Richey was the lead guitarist I guess? There's a video knocking around of the same thing happening during a performance of La Tristesse Durera.
Such a powerful song. Sometimes it makes me wonder what the HELL happened to Richey... Yeah, he disappeared, but that's our truth... I wanna know his...
The gig your looking for is one of the London Astoria gigs from Dec 94, the last they played with Richey. They played 3 nights 19,20 and 21 think its the 20th where Richey takes over lead on Motown Junk much to the delight of James im sure its on youtube somewhere.
Listen to "Motown Junk" live at London Astoria 94. There's a point that James' guitar cuts out and you can hear Richey covering for it. He didn't mime in The Holy Bible tour, at least.
O.K perhaps it was only in the early days that his guitar was plugged in but switched off. I was actually thinking of seeing the band at one of the (three?) nights they played in the Astoria back in December 1994 but I wasn't really into the band at the time and didn't bother.Weird really considering I reckon the Holy Bible is one of my top ten fav albums of all time....I came to them a bit too late.
True, and from what I remember he seemed to enjoy the Show. But I think thats the think about Manic Depression (being Bipolar). For People who suffer from it the Mood swings are Massive to say the least. You could spend 2 Weeks looking extremely optimistic and planning everything ahead like theres no tomorrow, then suddenly, the next Day, you're physically and emotionally incapable of getting out of Bed and everything in your mind is Black. and you're like that for a Week.
I've known People who have killed themselves because of it and some others who were hospitalised. Stephen Fry's documentary about it is very very good.
Some silly sausage at the gig itself decided to turn down the mix of all the instruments. Hence the rapid reduction in volume and aggression. Clowns. What a great performance though.
Thats pretty much describing Richeys behaviour to a t. I think Richey knew he couldnt take the band in the direction he wanted it to go in....even more extreme than The Holy Bible era, this was also a factor in his last few months with the band.In the end he did what he wanted to do.His disappearance freed the band up abit and left a massive hole in one go, is he still around? ive got my doubts.
Apparently, Richey was horrified when he saw this tape because of how present his guitar was in this video. I think it sounds badass.
One of the greatest albums made,The Holy Bible.
Oh shit, Richey actually playing guitar instead of miming! It actually sounds pretty nice if you focus in on it. Shame he didn't play often, but his lyrical genius definitely made up for that in spades.
It makes the song more real with his guitar.
how jdb managed to coil songs around those words ill never know.
Whoever turned James' guitar down has more blood on his hands than any dictator in my eyes
+Sid Hayward
Ruined the fucking recording ffs
Wanna hear richey banging away on his telly
sid snot Yeah nice to hear the lad play but James was going in until they turned him down
Wasn't quite the musical genius as he was a lyrical one, aye.
I've heard an audio only version of the gig and on 'Faster', this sound glitch doesn't happen
Apparently they now use James's balaclava as a tea cosy in their recording studio in Wales, mint!
😮😮😮
The most intense 3 minutes and 54 seconds on UA-cam
Indeed it is. well said!
Well put sir, I wanna smash my house up listening to this. In a good way
That just about covers this perfectly as a comment. Well said!! X🎸🎸🎸🔊🔊🔊
Yess!!
what a song. holy bible Manics were astoundingly good. they're still not bad now, but that album made my fillings hurt.
My brother would strongly agree with this. X💯%🎸👌🔊🔊🙏🙏🙏💪🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
It was a good time for Richie to step off the train - this just cannot be beaten - the most aggresive album i've ever heard - top top class
If this doesn’t make your hair stand on end then nothing will. Best manics track ever in my opinion.
Soundman thought Richey was lead guitarist at the start then realised he wasnt so turned it down. Pity.. it sounded heavy as fuck
rookie sound-man
@@Andrew-fh2dx you can see him peeping out behind the camera man to the left of James....lol

Weeks.. Months! Ha ha🎸😭
and then you get to the b sides its never ending lol

I know i believe in nohing but it is not nothing!! Ih yeah! 🙏♨️♨️🎶🎸🎸🎹🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊
It's probably the best rock n roll performance ever, unbelievably special.
"Hindsight is a wonderful thing'
Disagree, the gig they did at the millenium stadium in Cardiff on The Eve of Y2K. But this is immense!
@@nicbongo i was at that gig - whilst it was a great evening it was tame compared to this !

This was such an attack of a performance. love them
Given the circumstances this is now one of the most legendary performances of all time.
If there was one ever set I would loved to have been at this was it. I tried to get tickets. No joy. Not paying £150+ for two seated tickets... £200+ for standing :(
Touts suck!
The best Post-punk 45 bar none, no questions asked, no quarter given. Stiff competition too, Here is clarity.
i was down at the front and believe me it was awesome. the best performance of Glasto'94. Shame Richey would only be with us for another 8 months.
Riff, riff, riff, all while singing like that !! I wish I had ever been within a small percentage of this man's talent during my brief stint doing the same job !! James Dean Bradfield, you sir are a bona fide rock god !!
Imagine showing this to the kids of today? No fuckin clue. This is as good as it gets.
Brian Dennehy hey man.. im 16.. plenty of kids today listen to the manics.. bit of a cult following, actually. Lmao
I’m 18 and obsessed with the manics 😅 especially the holy bible. Can’t get enough.
@@headfullofhyenas that's great Kay, one of the cool kids with taste 😄😎
i'm 13 and i adore them, sooooooo
To all the kids replying, that's fucking awesome 🤟

Richey's guitar makes the sound so much grungier and fuller :D
Richey's not even plugged in
He is in this gig, and it surprised me
Fuck you're right
This is one of the first ever gigs I found where Richey is actually plugged in/turned up!!
Yeah he’s plugged in alright, think I can remember James saying afterwards the guitar tech turned Richey up to much.
The best performance of the best song ever off the best album ever by the best band ever (89-94)❤
I could watch this over and over! Probably one of the best Glasto performances!!!
I wish I could go back in time and be there
my favourite version of Faster - the siren at the start and alls
I was right down the front for this! 25 years!! Great memories! Thanks for posting.
They came firing out the blocks - love this - Manics at their peak
Hello, Hello, Hello! This is electric! Spine tingling! Such a hostile performance, they were fucked off all the way through this gig..
I got to see them just a few nights previous in Dublin. Great Show but I never reckoned that it would be one of the last Shows Richie would ever do.
I went to this! I was high on mushrooms, weed and vodka at the time. Happy days!
The band that means so much
I was at this festival and saw them play.
This is better than the studio recording for sure
This exact performance of this very song was the highlight of the bands entire history! I had this on a bootleg back in the 90's and it would send shivers down my spine!
HELLO? HELLO? HELLO? THE PUBLIC IMAAAAAAGE.
Richey only mimed in the real early days.. he got a lot better at the end, which is why he's turned up so loud here. There's one video floating around where James' guitar dies during Motown Junk and Richey plays about half the song by himself. :)
is it really 20 yeas since this album came out? fuckin hell. nothing like it been written since.
Absolutely perfect up until the 1 minute mark when James' guitar gets turned down. Sound guy assuming Richey was the lead guitarist I guess? There's a video knocking around of the same thing happening during a performance of La Tristesse Durera.
The 'La Tristesse Durera' one was hilarious.
That was worse because James was turned completely down and the guitar solo in the middle of the song couldn’t be heard at all
@@PBL187 Typical low tier soundboard workers, absolutely good for nothings.
WHEN THE FLYING FUCK WILL THIS COME OUT ON DVD? it's been 20 years!
Ludovico Street Richeys finest moment god bless him x
Johnny Enfield very true
+Ludovico Street It probably would have already had it not been for the appaling sound technicians on this footage - totally screwed up an amazing gig
yeah - its top notch for the first few songs or so then totally goes to shit. Still be great to own.
If you can find Copy of the tenth anniversary edition of the Holy Bible album it includes a a dvd with a couple of the glastonbury songs included.
magnificent.
Awesome. Can't wait to see them again in a few months - twice!!
AMAZING!!!
It's their best banger! 💥🎸
If you like em you gotta love this!
man kills everything baby

I see what you did there!
STILL ROCKIN" ! ! !
LOVE.
a morality obediant
thanks for uploading this
LOOK AT RICHEY Yeah..
ty for all these videos!
Pure fuckin venom. AWESOME
19 years ago, and still a strong track. this was well ahead of its time.
Nothing is ever ahead of its time. There are only ppl who are behind the times.
HELLO HELLO HELLO
Just for a minute there, I heard the real potential of the 2 guitar line up of the manics.
Public Image at the beginning!
Epico, Monumental !!!
Is this the gig where Nicky asks about building a ".. bypass over this shit hole" ?
Yes, on 'Slash and Burn' . . it's on youtube too
That was fucking cooking right up until they pulled JDBs guitar back.
This sounds multitudes better than the studio version. It's got a lot more energy.

its not OMG its OH MY FUCKING GOD. James Dean nodding in acceptance that this is the best opening to a Glastonbury gig ever.
K, Richey is definitely playing guitar here and it sounds all good

Yes, in this album he was so influenced by Keith Levene and other post-punk bands
@@re_1241 and of course 'Yes' reminds me about Ourdoor Miner by Wire

woah
@Nabbymacnab John Lydon said "They're Great Blokes" :D!
Even Richie playing in tune? Just about anyway
Actually it was. He was only miming in the early years of the band, Generation Terrorists-era. This live performance features his guitar playing.
Spine-chilling
no mainstream band has tried to cover this song leave well alone I say.
One of the best live performances that "shit hole" has ever witnessed..
Fuckin' amazing
We are manic and we are street.
James does not get the credit for being one of the biggest frontmen out there. swings with no fucks
Fuckin coooolllllll!!!!!!!!!
😊😊😊🐸😇😇😇
Should build a bypass over that there place...
always MSP is the best!
It's like that at the show - notice how the vocals stay at the same level. Richey was mixed WAY loud.
Damn video editor didn't let me see the guitar solo!!!
Yeah Richey was there
dat balaclava
