JDB really did have a ludicrous amount of stuff to manage/remember when playing live. It's like reciting Nietzsche while playing Appetite for Destruction at 8000 mph. What a front man he is.

Awesome guitarist and singer is the great James . Makes up for Richeys air guitar, lol. Bless him, he did pen it all mind. The Holy Bible is equally angst fuelled and haunting for obvious reasons. Masterpiece.

This is a blast from the past. I remember i had just got into the Manics and saw this on TV at the time of broadcast. At the end of the year i would see the band for the first time. A brilliant performance.
Brilliant. I remember taping this at the time and playing it so much I almost wore the tape out. I wish they'd included the whole show on the HB remaster instead of a couple of songs from it.
I was 12 when this was broadcast..stayed up till 2am to record it..but fell asleep at around 1.55..woke up just in time to press record when you love us came on..and caught the end credits...d'oh!!! (Then cried myself to sleep for about a month..lol)
Me too! I watched non stop after. Every scene is still etched in my brain years later. Didn't think there were so many of us back then staying up late to record it on VHS. Quality footage was precious at the time.
I remember this, like it was yesterday. I was so gutted at the time that ritchie wasnt plugged in. Listening to it now though its awesome and captures a little bit of the original Manics of the time! (pre-everythingmustgo)
He is plugged in but for some reason he doesn't play constantly and is very quiet. He was playing really well at this stage but for some reason he looks moody and uninterested here . . possibly as he was in and out of hospitals and clinics at this time
Apparently just a day or two before this performance he'd found out an old university mate of his had committed suicide. So I'd assume he was still processing that at the time of the show and that's why he's so distant and hidden away at the back.
I remember at the time that he was plugged in for Naked City, just not for this 'Butt Naked' performance. It actually sounds ok now, at the time i was really disappointed. (i agree he was playing well and the blend they used to have used to mean he just added depth anyway - why not have the sound in there?)
Do I really have to watch adverts with some little bell end, making a pot noodle, I think he would enjoy a hand grenade, painted as a corn of the cob more, love u Anthony xx

This may be the most insightful comment I’ve ever read on UA-cam!
…and also introduced by the great Michael Smiley, later Tyres O'Flaherty in ‘Spaced’ and Man in Flat (‘15 Storeys High’)🤣✅
James was as important as Richey in that era.
Sean is so on point it's ridiculous. Never gets mentioned in GOAT drummer articles, but he should be.
That’s because he is average.
Clueless 🙈
He's a solid enough drummer at this stage, but there's a reason they used drum machines on the first album.

James really has to do a lot of the heavy lifting live. With Sean in support.
‘If you keep fucking staring I will kill everything’ fantastic 😂😂
I always thought it was "swearing".
I remember hearing that every time I replayed that VHS and still think of it when I hear it since as if it's the actual line.
Clearly pissed off at the audience. Some of whom think it's a lyric. Hilarious.
I put my hearing aids in and I now agree that it is staring.
The manics always loved irony so that's why I said swearing....after he used the f word.
Early manics stuff the best,And will stand the test of time, the best Welsh Band ever.
Can't imagine anything better than this music, this voice and these lyrics. Richey looks gorgeous as usual.
