      @Khada Ro'kara I read there is a change in the pit bull laws soon to go into effect in Britain. The change will not solve all the issues but there won't be any more house to house confiscations of the breed.
      Here in Texas USA there is no breed specific legislation. What Texas animal enforcement tries to do is round up the packs which stray pit bulls run in and attack dogs and people in rural areas. These packs are VERY dangerous and have chewed up and killed many people and domestic dogs throughout Texas and surrounding States.

    You and he are absolutely right: socialization is all. My Pyrenees, Ladybug, who passed on last August, was a rescue. She was two when we adopted her and had very strong predator instincts. I decided to socialize her, introducing her to anyone who was willing to stop and say hello on our walks through the neighborhood. Over the next decade she became a fixture in the neighborhood, calmly sitting beside me as I spoke to neighbors. Deeply missed, I received many unsolicited condolences at her passing from the neighbors. She was my best friend, but who knows, maybe a Caucasian Shepherd will pick up her mantle!

    • @JacobFrazeur
      @JacobFrazeur 5 років тому +5

      Richard Zollino socialization doesn’t alter genetics. These dogs are not meant to be family pets and social with the neighbors. No matter how much you socialize you can’t change genetics

    • @richzollino1750
      @richzollino1750 5 років тому +23

      @@JacobFrazeur It does not alter genetics, but it helps to provide context that moderates behaviour. My Pyr had very strong predator and guard instincts, which she never lost. But, she did learn to accept people who approached me in calm, friendly manner. I have no experience with Caucasian Shepherds, and would not presume to know anything. In the decades of experience I do have with various breeds I can attest to the fact that it's not the dog, it's the owner.

    • @RandySoWavvy
      @RandySoWavvy 5 років тому

      Richard Zollino Pyr were never bred to aggressive though they’re a friendly breed. There’s a reason why they’re so popular for people who have farms with livestock but also get a lot of visitors. They’ll protect against other animals but they have no aggression towards people. Unlike the CO who was originally used to guard livestock then later used to guard and work in prisons and were required to attack and sometimes kill prisoners therefore people aggression has been bred into the breed. I have a Pyr she’s great for livestock but will let anyone come in and mess with the livestock I got a CO problem solved he’s wasn’t even a yr old and was keeping people away from the livestock.

    • @richzollino1750
      @richzollino1750 5 років тому +2

      @@RandySoWavvy A Pyr is bred to guard, just as you've stated. They can be very frightening, and sometimes aggressive. Without disclosing all the details, a neighbor's gardener was badly mauled by one of his five Pyrs that he kept inside his walled property. When properly introduced to his dogs, a visitor can be safely enter the property, the dogs are perfectly docile. Otherwise, they're doing their job. So, it all depends on the owner, and how the Pyr has been socialized.

    my first dog was a caucasian shepherd called "simba". we got her acctually with a house we boght. and before us the owner had the dog basicly chained all the time. My father took the oppurtunity to bond with the dog and in the dogs eyes became the alpha, with just caring for the dog and walking it and bounding with the dog. after all this the dog was really caring at other family members and as i remember her she took anything from playing with her, ruff or not but never touched a hair on us (kids, i guess i was around 12 and had siblings much younger than me). but when it came to other people or animals the dog would give anything to keep us safe. in summary "Simba" was the best and the most caring dog a person could ask for... i really loved her and no doubt she loved me an all of our family. (sorry for the long comment just wanted to share this, cuz this breed is awesome) R.I.P "Simba" love you girl.

    I firmly believe that any dog that’s thought to be dangerous is due to human “error/ignorance”. Not to sound cliche, but there’s much truth in the saying that a dog is the mirror of its owner. There’s not one animal on earth that is cruel for the pleasure of it (that I know of) other than humans! The statement tho "if you keep it on a farm and that's all it knows its gonna be bad" is dumb af. This dog is built to live outside in cooler temperature. It wants to move around and do what it was created for it. Keeping it a city or in a suburb is just wrong. There is no way in hell you can exercise this type of dog by walking it around. You're both wrong. So many circumstances come into play if you're thinking of owning ANY kind of shepherd. First off, if you don't live in a house with a decent size backyard, the chances of the dog becoming too territorial and hostile greatly increase, regardless of training. Second, you should be an experienced owner. I would never recommend, for example, someone who's never owned a dog before to go out and get a German Shepherd or Doberman, much less a Caucasian Shepherd.

    There is about 450 Timber Wolf Packs in my State of Minnesota, USA.
    I would never leave one of those lovely looking Dogs alone in Wolf areas. It may be able to take on a lone Wolf but Wolves in my area normally live together in Packs sometimes over 20 in a Pack.
    Packs of Wolves in my area regularly take down Moose which are bigger than most Cars and Pick Up Trucks.
    The Cacausian Shepherd may be a good Dog for me. I enjoy being out in Wild areas where Wolfs live. My German Shepherd/Collie Max passed on not long ago. Max was a great Companion for outdoor adventure and was good at keeping Black Bears away from camp.

    There have never been any discussions in Russia about the origin of the Caucasian Shepherd Dog. It may not be specifically Georgia itself, but definitely it’s the Caucasus Mountains. It is believed that this good puppy can be purchased only from the shepherds in the mountains. But in general, this dog will be unsuitable for domestic maintenance. She is huge and She needs a large space - because in its natural habitat this dog can run tens of kilometers in one day. In an apartment or even in a private house to her very closely.
    There is another nuance ... This is a very intelligent and wayward creation, with a strong character. This dog is able to make decisions independently. And these decisions will not always coincide with the will of her owner. For example, she will not look like a well-trained soldier like a German shepherd: she will not endlessly jump over a barrier or bring you a stick. Maybe she will do it a couple of times, and then look at you with her wise eyes, and run to do her own business, all of her appearance, as if telling you: “Master, maybe you are an idiot ... But I’m not! I will not bring you your stupid stick!"
    You need to have a lot of patience, willpower and firm character in order to raise this dog and be its owner, to be worthy of it.

    Nice video. No one should get one of these or other powerful breed dogs if they are not 100% committed to putting in the time. Good care, extensive socialization (from puppyhood thru adulthood), sufficient exercise, being a leader, setting boundaries, establishing routines, and providing mental stimulation will produce a happy, reliable dog. Hard to believe such cute pups turn into majestic dogs. I imagine the grooming time and cost to keep them looking like this are incredibly high.

    This episode on the Ovcharka was wonderful! As always, I love the fact that Anneka dispels myths about breeds that have been deemed dangerous. It is the responsibility of the human to lead their pack. They must invest the time into walking, training, socializing, loving and feeding their precious dogs...(every animal/pet). The Ovcharka is a magnificent, imposing creature. People should not own one if they are not willing to respect the time and energy this breed demands.

    Thank you so much for taking the time and adressing some of the comments on the last video. I was one of the people that thought Caucasian Shepherds weren't portrayed correctly. I don't think Caucasians are an aggressive dog breed, however as you stated in this video you have to socialise them (as any dog) to get a laid back pet.
    My initial concern was that "exotic" breeds like the Caucasian became pretty popular over the last few years and a lot of first time dog owners get them because of their looks, but fail to educate themselves about the needs of the breed and dog training in general.
    Presenting the Caucasian Shepherd just as a cute, fluffy giant may sent the wrong idea to those people and they might end up with an unsocialised, potentially dangerous dog. And in the end the dog will be paying for the mistakes their owners made one way or another.
    So again, thank you for this video.

    You guys forgot to mention a very important fact which is that the actual Shepard dogs are fitted with spiked collars which gives the dogs a huge advantage and leaves the wolves with no chance of winning in a fight. 👍👍 Same with the Anatolian Shepard aka kangal which is also a monster dog that has a reputation of killing wolves and bears. I'm half Turkish and half karachay cherkessian and I've been to both areas and have seen it with my own eyes and heard plenty of stories with my own ears. The custom collars they have for them have huge 4-5 inch long spiked that are razor sharp so not even a pack of wolves can take one or two of these dogs. Not even a large bear. The spiked collars is a game changer and every Shepard dog that I've seen has one because it's 110% chance they're going to fight off many many wolves and bears. And if u see one without it, they're being set up for failure and their owner should be put in his place for not making them wear one for protection.

    I think more people should watch this video. Caucasian shepherd ovcharkas are large dogs that are obviously strong, but they definitely have a lot of myths surrounding them. There are people saying things like they fight/hunt bears, take on wild boar, fight and kill wolves by themselves, and are great at fighting. These myths can be harmful, because there are people that do those kinds of things and may try to use caucasian shepherds for them. There are videos online on Russian sites where some people are using caucasian shepherds for things like dog-on-dog combat. It doesn’t seem to be that many, but out of some of the videos out there, I saw three that were against American Pitbulls-dogs that are actually bred and used for things like taking on bears, wild boar, battling wolves, and dog-on-dog combat. The titles for them were *Кавказская овчарка vs Питбуль* , *Собачьи бой Кавказский Волкодав против АмСтаффа* , and *амстафф vs Кавказской овчарки*
    In those videos, the caucasian shepherds ended up running away after they had enough. Caucasians are guard dogs for deterrence like this video says. It is cruel to use them for combat. They are not bred for that and they don’t have the true desire to want to like the game bred American Pitbulls have been hardwired for. This video gives truth about ovcharkas, but if people want to know more about American Pitbulls, they can watch a video by a well-known author, expert, and historian called *ALL ABOUT THE AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER WITH RICHARD F. STRATTON*

    They are the cutest puppies and the most loyal dogs. They literally do not leave you alone, stick around you and guarding you, like a fragile doll. Very very protective of their patrons. Growing up in Georgia, my childhood memories are associated with them, as we used to have them at home, as pets, in the city. This breed would accompany me in the town or during our holidays on the coast. They are never dangerous, but the most loving breeds. However, in Georgia, the most widespread breeds are either pure white, head to tail, or white with black dots. They are both adorable.

    We have a 3 yo male and a female (we got her from russia) that will be 1 on oct 18th. They are amazing dogs! We have had them since they were puppies and they are fine around kids and other dogs. They are our babies, just very big ones!!
