As an ex-wicket-keeping scrum half, Ian Smith has always been a big hero of mine. Great commentator too - Athers and Nasser very much in his mould - knowledgeable, non-partisan, enthusiastic - the perfect companions to watch a match with
Anyone who has heard the Ian Smith commentary at the denouement of England's World Cup win at Lords can only be in awe of his professionalism and lack of bias. What a legend.
Really soothing and calming commentators, even when they are chatting up random stuff. Never felt like moving to another video throughout. I wish Indian and Aussie commentators learn from them instead of talking so much over each other that we find it hard to focus on what's happening in the middle. Nowadays some commentators don't even bother to stop talking when the ball is about to be bowled.
I think everyone who knows cricket loves Ian Smith. Benaud would be proud of all three of these guys, yes very different from him but so talented and full of knowledge and acute observations. Thanks to all three of you for a great video.
Absolute masterpiece❤❤ Love from India So much admiration for Ian Smith❤❤❤ Pure mirth Thank you Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain for both being brilliant as always
I thought overall Jacob Bethell had a fantastic debut - it’s not easy to make your debut at number 3 in a test match when you haven’t got the weight of runs behind you, but most impressively he looked very calm and composed at the crease. No doubt he’s got some work to do, but he looked to have a really solid defence and presence at the crease and that can take you a long way.
Ian, Athers & Nasser are great commentators, but no one will ever beat the absolute class of John Arlott, Ritchie Benault and Jim Laker. You have to go back and listen to the radio commentaries of Arlott in the 60's, and the 1970's / 1980s BBC videos of Benaud and Laker. Especially in the Botham Ashes and the arrival of Vivian Richards on the world stage. For me Jim Laker was the very best.
The best commentators, for my money, have been: Benaud, Laker, Brian Johnston, Arlott, Ian Chappell, Aggers, Gower, CMJ, Blowers, Ian Smith, Atherton, Nasser, Tony Greig, Tony Cozier, Fiery Fred Trueman, and perhaps one or two more I forget at this moment.
Brilliant podcast, smithy is a legend and so nice to hear them talk about channel 4 so much which really did reinvent the game. Love sky and their content but hard not to miss channel 4 cricket on terrestrial tv
am I right in saying smithy also commentates on rugby?.. pretty sure I've heard him on the all black games especially the last lions series in new Zealand
Newzealand lost because of their fielding which is usually their strength. This proves that all days will not be the same. But I hope Newzealand will bounce back with vengeance in the second test.
Guys this is that good I'm sad it's finished, if that cheesy then 'cheese off' I loved the C4 commentary a) it was brilliant, seasoned guys who u've if ur my age 56, grown up with thru their careers b) I couldn't afford sky so having the game I love on terrestrial telly was a joy to behold c) Richie Benaud the quintessential 'englishman' well adopted!?!? Please more, honestly guys just first class.
It's like no-one is allowed to tell the truth about this England team anymore. Brook's innings was terrible. He was dropped 4 times by 108 - if taken that is an average of 27, and that's about how good he played. And it wasn't like he was dropped early while sussing out the pitch and then made the most of his fortune, or he lost concentration at 70 and then knucked down again, or anything like that. He kept giving away chances at regular intervals.

Absolutely loved the conversation, especially of Ian Smith 👌

I’m glad Nass mentioned Vaughan in that context. Just had that aura about him hence why we went on to be one of Englands best captains
Ian Smith is one of the greats. The pickle to Benaud's cheddar. Great podcast.

I Smith the goat of Commentry
Whilst I’m stuck in the cold prepping bats for winter nets and 2025 season

The way these guys commentate should be required listening for Austin Healey, who even if he was unpaid would actually be overpaid.

I see billy idol is playing for England nowadays
Has Smithy written his wifi code on the board?
Dominant win? Only due to dropped catches don’t get so cocky!..
Dropped catches = poor fielding. Yes maybe England rode their luck a little bit but they were by far the better team.
8 wickets is pretty dominant
@ it’s flattering to England
@@thrusta100 no. But we'll see next test eh.
Bookcase!
The bots are out in force in the comments.
Make spin track.Beat Eng. NZ playing dumb by preparing batting pitches.

'glenn philips got them out of trouble'-nz got smashed. and what spinner would have done well on the lawn of nz pitches? typical smithy BS
Now it's proven that new Zealand win over India was Fluke New Zealand is an ordinary team
You can't fluke a 3 nil test series thumping lol
Cry more indian 😂
NZ played well in India. India didn't grab those crucial moments in all the three tests.
