Shane Lee, Michael kasprowicz, James Pattison , Peter sidle, Paul Riefel, Ben Henffanius, Lot more bowlers were there early after that slump in finding talent like them. These Guys are only support bowlers can win matches on their own.
That’s a generational thing prolly. I’ve seen Sunny play since ‘79 and know that he is still the best batsman we have produced. Ask people of my generation. Yes, Sachin is great, and yes, Virat is wonderful too. But Sunny was of a totally different caliber as a Test batsman in an era of fearsome pacers, dicey pitches and primitive protective gear. Additionally, for us, Sunny is that obstinate batsman who would stare down every gora and every windies pacer. He was unafraid, he was helmetless. He was the first player to overtly show desi pride. We were a docile bunch, and goras would bulldozer over us on field and off field, be it gora players, gora media or gora boards. It was a different world. When Sunny says crotchety things on TV, the context of it is clear to us, but it may not be to newer generations.
Sunny is not disliked. I don’t know what makes you think like that. It’s about not being celebrated enough. That’s because he belongs to an older generation. We live in Virat’s gen. Before this it was Sachin’s. We see Sachin getting so less celebrated then how will Sunny be. But that doesn’t mean he is disliked.
Tell you what @rajmen1, I don't like cabbage either. Doesn't mean I can assume most of the people don't like it, right? What Sunny is like as a human being is none of my concern, as I don't share a living room with him, but as an opening bat, he stands alone in my book. Incomparable, actually!
Yeah, well...fair enough, because you probably need a dictionary in one hand and a remote in the other to switch back and forth between play and pause! 🤣
Harsha the real deal as far as intelligent, thinking Commentator is concerned, imperative to say,his illustrious academic qualifications shaped him that way,i reckon..
Imagine whe Steve Smith and Jasprit Bumrah turned as kids to a traditional coach. He probably would have discarded both with their unconventional batting and bowling and look how both they turned out with their unique stuttering and shuffling techniques !!!
