- Soooooo, I have a lot of thoughts. And not all of them are favorable 😬
So, lets talk.
I usually try to keep my reviews positive and ALWAYS strive to be 100% honest with you, the viewer, because I know preferences can range wildly. Which is why I'm still posting this review despite it being critical. I want to be honest about my opinion on the Lite Mode collection. And I hope that I conveyed my opinion in a constructive way.
I love that I've seen glowing reviews by other channels. However, I do believe there is value in negative reviews too because it can help consumers make educated purchases. Yes I get that this is "just nail polish," but $14 can be a huge amount for some people. And please, no bullshit "Well if you're broke you shouldn't be buying nail polish?!" Sometimes, you need that frivolous polish to feel special! You DESERVE to feel special 💖 Sky daddy knows, I've NEEDED those moments over the years.
I do come off a bit defensive in this video. I don't want to be seen as a Simply hater because I'm not. There have been a few times where some of my reviews have garnered a bit of attention... and some of those comments weren't nice.

I'm relieved I wasn't the only one who had these thoughts...I absolutely love Cristine and HoloTaco but they looked more like 'shimmers' than 'light multichromes' and when a polish takes 3 coats on my short nails, I'm disappointed. :(
If they had just leaned into the 'shimmer' aspect, I think a lot of people would have been much more receptive.

Please listen to your last few words on this video - your video. Now heed your own words. Never apologize for your opinions and never feel bad or uncomfortable with them. I watch yours and other videos for the opinions. You are the ones that have the polishes in your possession. I watch and I listen and then I make my decision whether to buy or not buy them. I value these opinions. And that is why I need to trust the people who are giving these reviews to be completely honest. In the end I may have an entirely different experience with the product, but then again, the review may save me from wasting both my time and my money on them. Honesty and integrity is what I, as a follower of a channel, value the most. Keep doing what you are doing and, the way you are doing it.

It is very reassuring that there is someone who feels the same as me with this collection. I'm by no means an expert, but I love wearing nail polish and doing nail art. I agree with all of your thoughts. The marketing was strange, some of these polishes are very pretty but "light multichrome" seems a bit off. Also, your opinion isn't trash or horrible. Its nail polish it's very subjective. I personally loved sunset simulation but the rest kinda fell flat for me. I love holo taco, this collection was just not my cup of tea.
Its hard when a lot of the big names are loving a collection and you don't feel the same. I hope that one day we do get some stunning light multichromes!
You are *very* generous with saying 3 of the polishes are multichrome. I'd say, at most, 1 is a duochrome and the rest are shimmers.
The day of the release and them being called multichrome actually made me angry. It actually ruined my day. Not just because of the poor marketing choice, but also because it came from Cristine, who is known to be so honest/transparent.
That is fair. I do believe I was generous with this review as this is the first time (in my opinion) that a collection has been a true miss and not a pattern of behavior. I hope the next collection is up your alley more
I love how honest you are with this collection. As someone who also owns every box and every collection, I was also kinda.... unimpressed with this collection. I also agree that this collection is leaning more towards a shimmer than a multi chrome. There's nothing wrong with that, I love some of the colors, just a little upsetting to be told it's a "lite" version of mulitchromes when I have very similar polishes being called shimmers instead. I don't think you should feel uncomfortable with posting this review! Nothing wrong with critiquing a brand that you love. Sometimes there are flops! I know there are some ride or die hard fans that just stomp on you for simply breathing the wrong way about Holo Taco and Cristine

so I've never watched your videos before but I can appreciate an honest opinion. I did buy two from this collection. I bought flash drive and lite link, and I like them. I don't really care if it's not a true multichrome, I like the colors and the shifts they give so I'm pretty happy with my purchase. I was not in love with the original multichrome collection, I found them too dark in my opinion. as for the shear-ness, it helps that I can layer them poverty almost anything and change up the polish so that makes it interesting for me.

Huge fan of HT but really appreciate your honest review! It is nice to see some really in-depth reviews as it helps when deciding which colours to buy (since unfortunately I can't get all the polishes)

Don't apologize for your opinion, your thoughts are valid. I appreciate your honesty. Personally, I think they are stunning in the bottle, I haven't had a chance to work with them yet. The original multi chrome was beautiful too but I don't really know what to do with it other than just to paint my nails. Your nail art on the other hand might make me rethink what to do with them. It looks like stained glass and is gorgeous. Congrats again on hitting a thousand, you are growing by leaps and bounds and I am so happy for you.

I bought 3 of them which I plan to try this week: Wireless, Flash and Encryption. In the bottle, I like them all. I did not buy the first multichrome collection bc I had so many from ILNP that I already liked. I’ve switched out for the thick brushes and am looking forward to trying them out. It’s no crime to dislike or be disappointed by a collection, imo.
I hope you love all of the ones you picked up! I keep seeing glowing reviews of the ILNP multichromes and need to try them.
Shockwave is a knockout! I like to get the formula with the added scattered holo, too.

@@whitefluffydogs9278 Out of all of the brands this collection is being called a dupe for, I feel like Pahlish has the closest overall. I thought the Lite Mode collection was very similar to their Hyrule collection. If I still have, I want to compare.
Just stumbled across your videos the other day. I wish I had sooner. I LOVE your 100% real genuine honesty. I feel like a lot of beauty content creators are always praising a given brand it almost feels a little fake sometimes. How can every product that someone tries always be great? Anyways, I'll definitely look for your videos in the future before future polish purchases.

I was never really a nail polish person but since I loved Cristine's (Simply's) UA-cam content I bought some of her nail polishes and I fell in love. That being said, I do share your sentiment because when I saw the new multichrome collection, I couldn't really see the shift and I had to look up a lot of swatches to notice the multichrome effect. At first glance I also thought that Sunset Simulation looks very similar to Cat's Evasion. Since you have all the collections, do you prefer Sunset S. or Cat's E. in terms of colours and multichrome effect?
Your tea cup looks very cute by the way and I love the way your nail art turned out!
I much prefer Cat's Evasion, its just so much more intense in color and multichrome shift. If I'm not wearing nail art, I like a dazzling effect on my nails.

Thank you so much for this honest review! I’m definitely a novice at nail art and have been really struggling to do things like the “lazy gradient”. I also found I don’t like the polishes on their own; I prefer to use them as toppers. They’re particularly vibrant over their similar creams (Floor is Guava, One Melon Followers, Sea Foam Home, Bored Meeting and Work Bestie). Your remarks about this collection being tough for someone new to nail art made me feel SO MUCH better about my struggles! I’m actually looking forward to a skittle mani with these over those creams.

My goal is to always include all experience levels and review with that in mind. It wasn't that long ago that I was absolutely struggling to do my first gradient. Just yesterday I had to redo my nails twice because I messed up and I still don't like it 😂
I can’t do the lazy gradient either and I’ve been doing nail art for a while. It simply doesn’t look like an actual gradient, just sloppy lines next to each other (when I do it).
@@FrancesBaconandEggs yes! Yes EXACTLY! I keep looking at what I’ve painted -while watching that part of that stream over and over trying to get it right- and I just don’t like it at all. I don’t even want to take a picture of it!
I just found your channel recently and I find it hilarious that HT just quietly moved the Lite Mode polishes to the "Shimmer" section when rehauling the website 😂
You don't have a trash opinion! I think the way you explained your reasons why you didn't think the whole collection was multichrome was very refreshing and well though out. I do find it hard to describe a couple of these polishes as multichrome as well, but I also still really like the whole collection. I also did not really care for the way it was marketed, it confused me a bit.

@@ruby_on_nails so I do want to add, after being out and about yesterday in different lighting.. I can see more of a shift for Light Link. It turns into a pretty aqua green/blue in the shade and at a harder angle than Sunset Simulation. For me, it is harder to see Flash Drive shift, I'm not sure why.

Multichromes are my original loves that got me into nail polish so I was intrigued when I heard she had a new collection coming out, but these look like jelly shimmers? no one else reviewing her polishes mentioned it so I though it was just me
I would agree that these are some very pretty jelly shimmers. It can be really hard to speak against the grain when it comes to large beloved brands, so its understandable that others might not want to out right disagree with the marketing.
Morgan, thanks for your honesty! I did not like the performance of this collection. Streaky AF, thin and not areal multichrome. They are pretty to the eye… but application is difficult. This one will join the original multichrome collection as dust collectors.

ok I did my nails 3 times with this new collection and I incredibly regret purchasing this collection. I do not consider myself a "beginner" in polish (been doing them myself for years and I have over 500 bottles - I too have every HT polish). This polish is so hard to work with. It is not a multi-chrome, I don't see how it is worth $14 per bottle in quality. I wish desperately that you would get PR so that I could watch your videos before buying. You have helped me buy/not buy lots of polishes. We need more honesty!

I agree with you. These are not multichromes, these are shimmers. With the first multichrome collection, it had a smooth formula that changed colour depending on what angle you looked at it, but this collection is completely different. It has obvious shimmer throughout and that’s the reason you can see different colours.
Like you, I have every polish HT have done. I usually love their stuff, but I had the same issue as you. Love the colour, it just isn't what it is supposed to be. So, on that note, I am going to follow you for more honest reviews. There are polishes and brands I would love to try, but need that honest review. I don't want to see shit tones of videos where they just say it is amazing. I want to know what I am actually getting, so I can decide if I will want to use a product.

I found putting one coat of a crème polish as a base meant I only need one coat of these polishes and was able to work past the streakiness easily. See Y’all Later Chai worked as a good base for me where I felt the colors of the multichrome I put on top weren’t affected too much, but other base colors look pretty cool as well. I feel like while it isn’t my favorite collection (though the box is great), there is a lot of versatility in the sheerness of the formula.
I few other people have mentioned doing this, gonna have to try!
Flash drive over work bestie + a holo topcoat is beautiful. It didn’t look too shifty, probably because it pulled the magenta/pink color more towards purple, but I stared at my nails any chance I got.
Encryption key over what do you pink? is a lovely combo as well. I tried to do a skittle mani where the light multichrome “topper” was the same and the crèmes were different. I ended up scrapping it, but it made a lot of nice colors.
I've used this collection way more than I expected, but mostly in combo with other polishes, as a topper over cremes with other toppers on top.
I just got these and although I live them I have to admit that they are not as multichrome as I wanted. They are really nice as a shimmery topper. I also didn't expect them to be so thin..
I’ve not been into nailpolish long enough to identify multichromes every time I see them, but I did also have my doubts with this collection…
I’ve worn them as a skittle this week and I never caught the shift for the purple one. Both blue undertones looked fairly similar to me, so I’ll have to investigate further. The final pink-orange one was just really pretty to me, very wedding appropriate for some reason 😅
It’s not my favourite collection right now, because I feel like the shimmery ones lean very closely to the winter shimmers collection that wasn’t too long ago.
Also I wasn’t as fascinated with them as I usually am when I wear the other multichromes.
But I still feel like the polishes individually are pretty, so maybe the it’s just the way they’re advertised that’s confusing me (and clearly others as well)…
I can totally see Sunset being a fun Fall wedding shade 🙂 I found that I had an easier time see the purple’s “shift “ when I put a matte topcoat on.
I have not super long tips but longer nail beds and did get away with 2 coats on all but Sunset in a skittle last week. What I found was that when I did float heavier coats Sunset refused to dry. I have wavy thumbnails thanks to damaging my nail matrix in my teenage years, and this formula is super hard to make sure the layers stay sheer and don’t pool in those waves/dents preventing it from drying completely. I don’t have any of the previous multichromes so nothing really dupes for me here and it’s still a fun shift and a good color story for a skittle (in my wardrobe at least). I have a harder time justifying the HT cremes, I just don’t find them more special than OPI/Essie/Morgan Taylor cremes that I can get half price when I go shopping at beauty supply with my licensed mom.

I agree with another commentor who said she saw one duochrome and the rest as shimmers. It's a perplexing marketing choice, to call them multichromes (unless, I suppose, they come off more multichromey IRL, vs on video). I actually find the colors very pretty and appealing, but the cost and the fact that they're 3-coaters makes this a nah for me. Kudos to you, for tackling a difficult review of a popular brand with grace and integrity.
PS--LOVE the nail art, it reminds me of stained glass, which I LUUUUUUURVE!

I'm glad that you are willing to be honest about a brand you love. I think Cristine is smart and grounded enough to listen to honest and respectful feedback...so we need to be sure to actually give the feedback and not be mindless boot-lickers.
I like these. I'm glad I have them. I have also done some art with them that I love. But...I think that if they had ended up being glorious, light, shifty AF multichromes, they would be worth $14 each, but I do not think they hit that mark.
I've seen some other light and shifty indies around lately that take my breath away and I god damned want HT to do that too.

I wish i saw this before i spent the money. I love love Holo Taco its the only brand i wear but you are 100 correct on this collection. I got wireless mode and flash drive. I agree wireless mode i can make work but as beautiful as flash drive is its too watery and hard for me to use
I love the polishes BUT I don't use them as marketed...i do love using them as water marble over different bases
I didn’t buy the collection and I have bought every one except the tea cremes. I didn’t buy it for essentially the reasons you said. I love multichromes and they didn’t seem shifty to me. But even if they are supposed to be shimmers they didn’t seem vibrant. I have some bright shimmers and multichromes from Bee’s Knees Lacquer that are stunning so I was comparing to those as well. Kinda glad I am not the only one thinking “these aren’t multichromes” 😊
I will give it to HT, these polishes are very vibrant in person but the photos that they used in this campaign were a bit muted. Bee's Knees is on my list to try!
The nail art looks phenomenal! I would love to see an actual light multichrome collection, but these felt like they missed the mark.

I can see this shimmer. I get that it doesn't shift. And I like the colection. I would wear it more on an accent nail than on all nails but hmmm maybe the sunset... I'm still deciding.

I like it fine, definitely more than the original multichromes (two of those originals were barely duochromes). I don’t like that I can’t really make actual gradients with them and they are three coaters, which limits the types of nail art I can do with them. They’ll be fun to put toppers on I guess?

@@ruby_on_nails I tried using them as toppers over black and had trouble getting them even 😭 but once I got them on and matted them up they were beautiful.
I also tried them matte and actually really liked the overall look!
Update: I find myself reaching for these often now??? I love Sunset Simulation as a base for toppers. I did a skittle mani with the collection and stamped a simple skull pattern over it and my goodness. It’s a glorious contrast. I took a video in the sun showing the shift and URGHHHH so pretty.
Looking back, I think that the problem people had with this is just that they felt misled by the marketing. I hope everyone gave the collection a chance again.
In my mind there's a distinction between a true multichrome and a multichrome shimmer. I love HT and own more of it than any other brand, but there's still a lot I pass on because I just don't vibe with it. This collection is pretty, and there's one or two I'd get if I wasn't trying to keep my collection pretty strictly curated, but as a whole I'm not vibing with it.
Yes, I feel that if they had marketed the shimmer aspect more there would be less of an issue.
I agree with your opinion on the marketing, if they had done it as a "spring/summer shimmers" launch instead of "light multichromes" it would have gone over better. I don't mind three coats for a specialty finish but the colors HT releases are just kind of meh to me... Holo Taco just hasn't really been my jam lately other than the holoday glitters because I prefer to buy one bottle of a really unique indie formula than to purchase multiple bottles for mixing and matching.
It really does come down to the marketing of it all. The combination of 'multichrome' and 'new formula' really caused a stumble especially so soon after the release of the Winter Shimmers. We've had two years of really solid launches so there was bound to be a pitfall. I just see this time as avoidable if they had only chosen to change a few words.

Dude I don't have the polishes but I felt the same looking at the swatches! I was just like squinting trying to see the multichrome shift and it just wasn't there haha and compared to all the other indies with amazing shifty multichromes, I don't think these are a good ht formula

This was the 1st collection launch since her 1st anniversary collection I did not buy. I’ve gotten them all since august 2020 and have spent an Insane amount of $$ on holo taco (with the latest launch - gala collection $1,730 🤢) so I just felt like when this one came out…since I wasn’t jazzed about it maybe I should feel it in bit! Don’t get me wrong….love holo taco and would recommend but felt like I be honest with myself And determine if I’m buying it bc it’s holo taco or bc I really like it.

I'm late to the party but wanted to chip in and say I'm in the same boat! I absolutely adore 3 of these polishes, but they are NOT multichrome. They're shimmery, two are kinda duo-chromey IMO, but there's no "multichrome" about them. What a bizarre marketing choice!
Sunset Simulation did give me Cat's Evasion vibes
I can find all of these polishes in many other brands and isn’t worth the $$ price tag. And I love HT. I didn’t count ANY of the polishes as true multichromes.

I was super excited for the collection based on the promo surrounding it, but once it was released, I was profoundly disappointed. I don’t think any of these polishes qualify as multichromes. I would call them duochrome shimmers. “Multichrome” is deliberate mis-marketing in my opinion. I also agree that the formulas look streaky and way too sheer. I like my polishes so opaque that when I hold my hand up to the light, no light shines through the free edge at all and I see no transparency. These polishes would not get there for me. Great nail art though!

Speaking of loving and hating something at the same time is *exactly* how I feel about The Shining (the book). It is incredibly well-written and even talks about mental illness in a way that more people should understand it as. A wasp's nest you can and should *not* be blamed for. Meanwhile, I hate it because it tugs on some strings of my personality and upbringing and hit waaay too close to home with its content and unreliable, manipulative narrator. Yuck. It is one of the few books I will actively warn people not to read. On another note, because of how multichromes feel like they should have a black base (for me), I always wondered what these would look like over black and now, with your nail art, I'm in love. Oof. 💘
