Thanks for sharing your video with us! I was a design engineer for SkyStar Aircraft from 1993 until 2004 and helped design the Series 5. I later was the engineering manager for CubCrafters and worked on the original Carbon Cub. I would take the Kitfox over the Carbon Cub any day. It has a more efficient airfoil, and your flight controls are much more responsive. I look forward to seeing your plane in person sometime.
I got my degree from Embry-Riddle, and there were many late nights while struggling with a homework problem or project that I just thought I should give up. My advice to engineering students is to work hard and persevere. No matter how hard it may be at times, just don't give up. Completing my degree has allowed me to have a very enjoyable and rewarding career (25 years now). One of my favorite quotes is from William Boeing. He once said, "My firm conviction from the start has been that science and hard work can lick what appear to be insurmountable difficulties.” Best of luck to you, Andrew!
Yeah.. I had nights.. nay.. MONTHS of anguish but getting done was all worth it (2 1/2 years of delay LATER) and have had a life of adventure and stability (my degree is EE). Yep. Work hard, persevere, lay off the partying and distractions, get help, show the Prof you give a dang, and that'll get you through some narrow scrapes, at least it did for me.
I haven't flown in over 40 years but back in the day (mid 1960's), getting my Private SEL, I flew several of my required cross-countries in a Cessna 140 (tailwheel). Once I got the hang of it, ALL my landings in a tricycle gear improved due to the tailwheel experience. And I pulled off some really short landings in that Cessna 140. I would really have enjoyed getting into the kind of flying you do. I did several landings at the dirt strip at Timmonsville, SC, and numerous times in and out of the grass strip at Westwego, LA. It always felt really good being off the pavement.. Keep the videos coming. This 74-year-old aviation buff is enjoying them all.
I thoroughly enjoyed the breakdown of your Kitfox. I've been in a light plane one time in my life, some 45 yrs ago. I am 68 now and just waiting on the day Trent Palmer comes to central Alabama and takes me flying. Be careful, good luck and take care!
Trent, you are a blessing to aviation. It's talented people like you who inspire people to go out and become pilots. This might be asking a lot, but if you could find the time to do it, l'm sure a lot of viewers, including myself, would like to know how much all your mods cost and where they could get them done. Got my license in 1965 in a 1947 Fleet Canuck in Windsor, Ontario Canada where l'm from. At 74, l'm now living in Kimberley, British Columbia with my 32 year old wife. And, because of you, l'm in the market for a Kitfox. The world needs more people like you. You are truly an Aviation Ambassador !!!
I don't fly. Got 26 hrs on a Piper 140 in the 1960's. Enjoyed it then and solo'ed after 6 hours. Ran across this video from a STOL vid link my brother-in-law sent me. He flew. Anyway, I was incredibly impressed with both you and your plane. You really know your stuff. 'nough said.
Good video. I have a kitfox 4 with 100 HP ULS Rotax engine. My power to weight is great. My plane does have a spring gear so landing short is a challenge. My Kitfox has all the clean airfoils which makes it a go some where airplane rather than stohl. I cruise at 110 mph at 4800 rpm. 115 mph at 5000 rpm with the angle I have set on my three bladed warp drive prop. To try to land short is pilot technique. One bounce and you float. If I keep nose up with a slow hard slip then occasionally I due it right. Sometimes I come in with full flapperons, trimed to nose up , little power and stall right at touch down. I just can't do it every time. I thought about changing gear, but in south west ohio we have plenty of grass strips that I land in safely so I just enjoy what I have. Thanks for your video's because I can relate to what your saying. Stay safe..
Thanks for being so public about your KitFox 5. I'm still evaluating what it is that I'm looking for, but I am leaning heavily toward a KitFox. Keep the vids coming, love seeing them!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for taking the time to make this video! The information and the sincerity in the way it's provided has been an encouragement to me as my wife and I navigate what it looks like for me to train as a bush pilot for the ministry and potentially in the future buy a plane. I'm going to Sutton Alaska in August with a team at Kingdom Air Corp for a mission trip, your content has given me more questions to be prepared to ask. Thank you again! Keep the videos coming!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video, I have been on the fence between a CH-750 kit, and a kitfox. Still not sure which way I will go, but glad to have your insight. Cheers!
Thanks Trent, I like the side by side seats to more elbow room never thought of the CG so thanks for explaining that difference, also I would not have thought to upgrade the brakes when going to larger tire's. Thanks awesome video.
One of your best vids, mate. I've only just arrived at your channel. Am normally a rotor head but am loving the STOL videos. I'm heading out to the Australian STOL champs this morning, in fact. Thanks for your content, Trent. It's superb. I think I may look at a Kitfox now. I used to be prejudicial against them but you've definitely"turned" me😁. Cheers mate.
Perry from Nanaimo BC , Stumbled upon one of your videos yesterday and watching them ever since . What a wonderful job you do with your flying and camera work . My brother is a pilot and
Well done video Trent! You 'were right about getting the plane out in it's element; the backdrop really added to this video. You have a good voice and used great informative content. I'm tossing around the idea of building a kit now that I'm retired. Thanks for doing this great video. You should keep making videos!
Best explanation i've heard in regards to why YOU choose a kitfox. you are true to your reasons and really make a great argument and comparison to why you choose kitfox over the all mighty carbon cub. great job, and I love the flying you do. keep it up and stay safe!
the side by side seating is exactly why my wife and i might build a Kitfox over getting a Cub, or an RV7 versus an -8. I might need to get me one of these. looks like a kick in the pants. and I grew up flying a true Pacer. good stuff man!
So far, you are the most enthusiastic and entertaining Kitfox owner I've seen to date. Was looking into a kit at the very beginning when it was out of my financial range and amazed at how much they've evolved but just as much fun. Family obligations killed the full scale dream a while back.
Always on the lookout. Just growing up with parents in the Cessna 180-185 club and summer camping trips to Johnson creek keeps the enthusiasm in there. The fpv rc bushplane flying in a trailer cockpit can only give half the satisfaction, doesn't cost as much though. Keep up the great adventures coming!
Hi Trent, great video. I owned N2280J for 5 years and sold to Icelandic Air pilot in April (2017). Really miss it. Mine was a Kitfox IV Sportster with an 80HP ROTAX. The 28 gallon tanks and 100+ mph cruise made it a great cross country machine. That Big Bore Zipper sounds like a great mod. I look forward to seeing your other videos. Regards, John
Excellent vid. Thank you. Really appreciate: 1. explanation of your aircraft's background and custom upgrades and 2. comparison to the cubs and carbon cubs. Keep all the different types of vids you shoot coming. Fly safe. Beast to Hailey.
Thanks for making this Trent. I enjoyed hearing more about your bird and how it's set up. Very motivational also! You live in such a beautiful part of the country.
Solidifying the fact i want a series 7 speedster in the garage. Slightly different mission profile goal. Experimental avaition is awesome airplanes are cool
Really love your videos, Trent! Thanks for sharing all the modifications you've put into your kitfox - that's super awesome of you! I definitely agree with you on the Kitfox vs Carbon Cub debate. Another point to note is the Carbon Cub has cruise speed of 96 MPH! It's super slow compared to the Kitfox! The plane just doesn't have enough advantages to justify the $200,000 more money you need to bring to the table to buy one vs a Kitfox. The Kitfox is a more well-rounded aircraft and pretty cheap. It's the definite winner for me.
Slowly on my way toward a fox. Transitioning from private glider, I put in 3 hours in on a champ today. Having that engine thing up front is quite different! And the extra points of contact on landing...
Trent, you can't have a better airplane and setup for what you are doing. I think with your ability, you can fly with the best of cubs. Keep the vids coming, they are addicting, indeed!
I have been watching videos priceing plane and all fpr the past 6 months trying too find the right one for me... Your videos are awesome and cannot wait to buy one
I would love one of these someday. Being able to fly is my dream. I just want to pack some camping supplies, fly out into a mountain clearing, camp for 2 or 3 days in a super secluded place, get some drone footage, and fly home. Im 27, finishing up my degree, and everything is expensive right now, but things like this are what im working for. That adventure and freedom.
Trent, you have been a motivation for me, inspiration will come later. A engineer friend of mine who is heavily into aviation advised "aircraft ownership is a financial black hole". I am inclined to agree with him from his argumentative perspective. I received an inheritance which was not divided uniformly among the family. I wish to pass along what assets are left after my life to assist family most close to me. I feel guilty projecting those assets toward a selfish end. However, the flying passion still is there. Many questions remain to be answered before I take the plunge.
Such an awesome plane! One can hear and feel that you’ve put your heart into this baby. Greetings from a German Eurofox flyer (a European factory built spinoff - you might know it as the Aerotrek A240 in the US)
Great job reviewing the aircraft. I really like the casual, honest, and technical way you did the review. If you ever get a chance to compare to the SuperStol I'd like to hear your opinion on that one. You did an awesome job upgrading your Kitfox and it's definitely something to be proud of. Thanks!
I haven’t flown in a super stol but a few of my friends that have prefer the highlander or Kitfox, it sounds like it lands slow but the rest of the flight envelope isn’t so impressive. I’d love to fly one and see for myself
Haha great to see the BD Stryk lights. Used to run those on my motorcycle for night time touring, and now they’ve moved over to a pushbike for night rides 🚲😬💪
Great walk around, 'down to earth' informative. I'm trying to talk myself into building a Kitfox.

Must say that I do love your videos, very informative and really makes me want to get into flying. Also the music you use is really good along with good editing, keep it up! Greetings from Sweden!
I think you've just sold me on Kitfox if I'm ever at a point in my life where I can confidently be in the market for a bushplane. Especially your description about the CG envelope and the adjustable rudder pedals.
Really wanted to thank you for this video. I've caught the flying bug and combined with my desire to make a move from WI to Alaska and live a much more outdoor lifestyle (think fishing and hunting as much as possible) the idea of a STOL aircraft with decent payload is one that interests me. Really liked the way you went through your thought process.
Trent...hope you get this...am a new subscriber and really enjoy the vids. I am an Ex Air Force guy...retired now. Maybe you have done this already but... was thinking a cool vid would be a "How To" for guys wanting to get into the kind of flying that you and your buddies do....training and what you can expect to lay out for a basic, safe and fun airplane to fly. p.s. Impressive job that you have done getting your Kit Fox dialed in....great paint scheme! Thanks - Terry in Justin Texas.
I like that Prince Prop on your Kitfox. I have about 1,000hrs now flying with P-tips. If your prop is matched (made) correctly to the desired max rpms it's an awesome propeller. Hard to beat a P-tip.
Sweet, we are going to build a Bearhawk model 5. With a family of 4 that likes to camp and hunt we need the seats and capacity to get out in the backcountry.
oops wrong button ... my brother is a pilot with 2 small planes in Vancouver so I text him to see if he & his buddies have watched your videos, turns out they are in Oshkosh now so I asked him to search youtube for your video Trent Palmer Kitfox low and slow to Oshkosh . Can't wait for him to email me back, I know he and his pals will love it . P.S. good luck with your new home and strip
Trent, Just found the ... "Why I fly Kitfox - FreedomFox Walk Around"... Enjoyed the discussion of your Fitfox then! I would like you to do the same discussion about your current setup? I am looking at a Fitfox S7 STI with the 915iS Turbo, and most of the options. I agree with your comments about side by side. The wife will enjoy that a lot more. And keep up the videos, greatly enjoy them!
This is an excellent and very informative video. I used to own a Kitfox 5 Safari as well, but it was powered with a much heavier 125 HP Franklin engine. It was wonderful airframe and powerplant combination, but I'm sure the lighter Rotax 912 series engines make for a much better STOL machine. Currently, I'm working on another Highlander.
As always Trent, your videos are a joy to view. Looking forward to meeting up sometime in the future. My SS7 should be complete by next Summer! Your videos have one unfortunate aspect. They make me want to spend more money... Tires, gear, wings etc etc.
Trent, loved your personal take on your "baby" versus the Carbon Cub (I even quoted you in a Flight Chops comment). Even though this was a talking video you were still able to grab my attention and keep it. Nicely done. The UAV pull-back was awesome! I couldn't stop giggling like a girl though, as you tried, in vain, to scoot back out of frame. Heeheehee!
Hey bro I have been watching all your vlogs and you are an inspiration too me. I'm going to be getting my things together to build my own kitfox.thank you keep it up.
Hea Trent thanx for the Vid .... I fly the AvidFlyer A model , the original wing folding model your aircraft is derived from . It uses a 43 hp 2 cycle -W- a 72 inch wood prop and has a empty weight of 375 Lbs. and a climb rate of 1400 fpm , power on stall's are pure vertical with no break at all just a 200 fpm tailslide......... keep it up were loving it
Thanx Trent , you being from Reno I thought I would share , We were the Family who sponsored a few of the Reno & Mohave racers _ OMNI Aviation Managers Inc , Clay Lacy's 1970 winning P 51 we paid to race the Dc 7 at the California 1000 in 70 as well as Miss America and what would be later known as Rare Bear in the 70's as well ....................... ua-cam.com/video/vi3H8sbf28s/v-deo.html The Dc 7 racing
That is great info on your plane and even though I’m not huge on the STOL type plane. I see a lot of the love of my plane and thought process of why I bought it as you have for yours! The direct linkage is a great feel. My Mooney 201 really feels like a race car, and I’m sure as light as your plane is it gives you some awesome response. I use the description as surgical in the air. I’m very much enjoying your videos and glad UA-cam suggested your channel. On to your next one:)
Good video Trent. I've had my eye on the Kitfox, and I've been comparing it to the Carbon Cub. It seems like there might be more bang for the buck with the Kitfox.
Hej Trent, your Videos are really inspiring to me. I alwasy loved the look of those bushplanes, but now there is the wish growing in my head to make a plilot's licence, get a bushplane and leave Germany for a country with better bushflying possibilities when i finished studying. Maybe, maybe when i find time besides studying and my RC speedplane projects i built a Freedomfox inspired RC plane first. Maybe.. Kind regards and keep up your great work with those videos!
Thanks for the info. Trying to find out the differences between the kitfox and the eurofox. I live in Germany, and the eurofox is much easier to get over here, since it's made in the Cz Repub. But I've seen you roll the freedom Fox over, and they emphasize ALOT that the eurofox is not aerobatic capable. Even has big stickers saying no spins. Yet the Kitfox S7 I've seen all kinds of aerobatic flying with it. I've taken pics of both the KF and EF side by side, and the only differences I can see outside is the vertical stabilizer. The EF looks a little shorter, and a little more rounded off on the front top. Also the baggage area on the EF has more of the internal cage comes together and all welded up directly above the suitcase slot lol. It really makes it look like getting anything other than soft duffle type luggage in it would be a problem. I'm more of a backcountry flier myself, but an occasional wing over would be nice, especially with a specific nervous passenger in the right seat. So any info you might have would be helpful. Also from what I've seen lately, the taildragger EF might now be called the Aerotrek A240? Foreign country manufacturers make it difficult. But not as difficult as finding a Kitfox over here ....

Here's a man that has aeronautical knowledge and knows his way around the Kitfox... well done!
As someone who is considering building a Kitfox I appreciate your perspective. Thanks for sharing!
As a guy who is inspired and figuring his way though the journey of discovery, your videos are an invaluable resource. Thank-you Trent!

I'm flying the Kitfox on Microsoft Flight Simulator. I love it. Thank you!
Your airplane is not only an extremely capable aircraft, it is a work of art! This is where function meets form! I hope to own one myself someday...

True!
Good Day Trent, as a novice this is valuable information to myself.
Thanks very much for sharing.
I think you've just sold me on Kitfox if I'm ever at a point in my life where I can confidently be in the market for a bushplane. Especially your description about the CG envelope and the adjustable rudder pedals.
I'm watching this on a Tuesday. Great job with the clairvoyance!
Keep on doing exactly what your doing!
Nice video. I wish every plane had such a well done walk around
Great Video... Enjoyed hearing your perspective about the KitFox...
the quality of this video is incredible
Really wanted to thank you for this video. I've caught the flying bug and combined with my desire to make a move from WI to Alaska and live a much more outdoor lifestyle (think fishing and hunting as much as possible) the idea of a STOL aircraft with decent payload is one that interests me.
Really liked the way you went through your thought process.
I’m with you Andrew! AK would be amazing to call home, I may have to make the trek up there next spring to do some flying in the bushflying homeland
Thank you, you gave some really good insights on a STOL fixed wing I had no idea about. I liked the helicopter on the wall at your house.
Thanks Mo! And the helicopter is the logo for my company Copter Kids 👍🏻
We need a 2019 tech and walk around update!
Gotta love a Kitfox. Thanks for sharing your setup.
Great video.. haven't found another descriptive kitfox vid like this before.. even when I live 5 min from kitfox factory.. keep it up!!!
Stan Bearup who makes Highlander? What type of plane is it?
@@beunbad Just Aircraft out of Walhalla, SC. See Trent's comparison video "Kitfox vs Highlander - Comparison" ua-cam.com/video/uGGt8WFy8R4/v-deo.html
Thanks for the info on your plane! I'd sure love to own one someday! Love the thought of being able to drop into back country places!
Heeheehee!
Tony, I love that you caught me trying to sneak out of frame in that shot, haha!
Great video Trent...good presentation skills, great editing and very informative
Love the video Trent, thanks for the in depth review of your plane.
*Dance the Skies*
Hey bro I have been watching all your vlogs and you are an inspiration too me. I'm going to be getting my things together to build my own kitfox.thank you keep it up.
Hea Trent thanx for the Vid .... I fly the AvidFlyer A model , the original wing folding model your aircraft is derived from . It uses a 43 hp 2 cycle -W- a 72 inch wood prop and has a empty weight of 375 Lbs. and a climb rate of 1400 fpm , power on stall's are pure vertical with no break at all just a 200 fpm tailslide......... keep it up were loving it
Awesome! The avid flyer is a great little plane, have a few friends with them
Thanx Trent , you being from Reno I thought I would share , We were the Family who sponsored a few of the Reno & Mohave racers _ OMNI Aviation Managers Inc , Clay Lacy's 1970 winning P 51 we paid to race the Dc 7 at the California 1000 in 70 as well as Miss America and what would be later known as Rare Bear in the 70's as well ....................... ua-cam.com/video/vi3H8sbf28s/v-deo.html The Dc 7 racing
I hear the Mooney is awesome! I’d love to fly one some day. Cheers!
Trent Palmer if you ever make it to the back country of Oregon KGCD you’re more than welcome to go up with me.
super episode this one, very good presentation of your plane. I'm jealous
loved the comparison, great detail, love your Vlogs.
You made me fall in love with that plane . Thank you.
Nice review for those like me, who are unfamiliar with the Kitfox...Thanks!
Loved the tour and info on your Kitfox! Thanks for sharing it!
Awesome aircraft. Id love to have a Kitfox and go explore the back country! Total noob to GA, but I definitely want to learn to fly!
Good video Trent. I've had my eye on the Kitfox, and I've been comparing it to the Carbon Cub. It seems like there might be more bang for the buck with the Kitfox.
Hej Trent,
your Videos are really inspiring to me.
I simply love the kit fox. Design excellence.
Really enjoyed this more technical rundown
Nice video with thoughtful comments and descriptions.
Thanks, these more in-depth videos are great! As fun as it is to see entertaining flying, too :)
Love your plane ! thank you for your explanation !! I LOVE IT !
The snap is AWESOME! Love it!
Fantastic overview! Been looking at the Kitfox's for a few years now, hopefully I'll be able to afford one soon. Keep it up! :)
Oh man, the plane and the place... wow...
I REALLY enjoy your personality !!!! Thanks !!!
I have watched several of your videos and you have a great channel. Keep up the great work. Hope to have a plane one day.
What an awesome Plane. Sweet dreams are made of this.
Thanks. Fascinating videos. Love watching them. Keep safe
I like the ASI behind the iPad mini! Great idea!
Also would be very interesting to hear about when and how you've learned to fly.
Excellent job! Made me want to go out and buy one.
