  • A summary of Diomedes' spectacular engagement with Aeneas, Pandarus and Aphrodite, a cosmic battle between humans and the gods.
In this video, Dr. Foxwede outlines the early highlights of Diomedes' rampage or 'aristeia' (demonstrating the warrior's 'prowess,' 'excellence') in Homer's poem the Iliad. Arrows, spears and boulders fly, and not even the gods can escape from Diomedes and his terrible, terrible violence.

I was an Achilles fan boy because of Hollywood. Until I read The Iliad and realised Achilles is just a little cry baby and Diomedes is an absolute *chad*

      Diomedes joins in the battle.
      Almost kills half-god Aeneas
      Hurts Aphrodite
Hurts Ares (Literally the god of war in the Greek pantheon)
      Refuses to elaborate
      Absolute Gigachad.

@@Benjamin-ml7sv + bests Ajax (the match was stopped fearing he'd kill him)
      -Defeats Aenes several times
Better than hector, who lit ran ( with god's covering his ass)
-Smart mf traded bronze Armor for a gold one.
-Had Athena always show her support (in her true form) without even asking for it.
-Mf didn't flinch against Zeus. Dared to even stand against his warning.
-Even when several of his comrades incl Odysseus did him dirty. He didn't hold grudges and fought alongside em.
-Was the youngest but the most accomplished warrior in the war.
-Also man completed several imp side missions (horse stealing, statue stealing, spying and spy killing) 🤣🤣
-Routed gods when Achilles was fkd up a minor river God 😭
-Man was hailed as a hurricane and the strongest Greek by Priam's son.
-When crybaby Achilles was sulking & several times when Greeks thought of returning home, he motivated them to fight (no diomedes no victory).
-Was the last person to take stand everytime the Greek army was routed
      -Won almost all funeral games
Opposed lousy Achilles (who killed his comrade over a dead beauty) and demanded retribution
-Saw his wife's betrayal but instead of starting a civil war that'd end up killing his own ppl. Left her ass married another gorgeous woman had kids then after his death earned his place as a GOD.
      He's "the CHAD of Chad's"

Diomedes is such an awesome character. Yet, he never gets any real representation on tv/film adaptations of the Trojan war.

I wonder if it has something to do with the popular trend of omitting the gods from Trojan War adaptations. No gods, no chance for Diomedes to truly extend himself when he battles them.

@@FoxwedeHistory that might be it. But
even when the gods are included like in Troy: Fall of A City he doesn’t show up. He seems to always inevitably become a composite character with Odysseus. The best work of fiction that actually includes him (IMO) is Song Of Achilles by Madeline
Miller. I think he might also show up in The Silence Of The Girls by Pat barker. Both books are really great but I’d love for him to get his due. He deserves a whole book, like Circe or Ariadne.

@@magisterjacobs6654 I love Achilles and Patroclus, I like Penthesilea, and I find the Protesilaus & Laodamia story kinda beautiful. But as far as warriors who fought in and survived the war Diomedes is my favorite too. His post-war adventures are incredible, and more interesting to me than Odysseus.
It’s just kinda baffling that a guy who literally wounded the god of war in battle isn’t represented in adaptations.

Diomedes was a BOSS and a top top warrior, with Achilles i see his point about Agamemnon taking his war prize turned Lover Bresis, Saying Agamemnon was a Hypocrite because they were at Troy to get back Menalaus's wife, this was in the last year after Achilles took 11 cities and 12 island's then had HIS Prize and Lover taken off him by Agamemnon, come on men be honest now, ill would of stopped too, But Ok Achilles was having a BIG BIG SULK
