People think I’m crazy when I do the “going doooooown” backgrounds lol. Crazy thing is: I haven’t heard this since I was little but that’s how much of an impact it made.
Alot of people also may not remember that Jada Pinkett directed this video. In the 90's I preferred this version over Mary's because Y?N-Vee did something different with the song. Mary's was good, but Y?N-Vee's was more entertaining for me. Memories.
I'll never forget when this came out about a few weeks or so before Mary's and her version climbed up the charts and these girls version was forgotten. It's really shame, I blame Uptown for doing that, Mary had so many other good songs on the "My Life" album that she could have released a video for such as "My Life", "Baby Don't Go", "Never Want To Live Without You", "You Gotta Believe" that I didn't understand why they released her version of "I'm Going Down" knowing that this version was out.
It was a power move on Uptown part…which sucks because it’s a cover so they could have let it slide. But to put out a video for it was just ruthless. These ladies deserved the exposure and Uptown Records literally destroyed their careers before they started 😡😡😡
This really wasn't a bad group, wish they'd stayed around longer than they did. And yes as a 17 yr old at that time, I was in love with all of them LOL.
I remember when this came out. I was confused when it disappeared and Mary’s version started being played. I liked this version much better, and the choreography is amazing! And I always remembered the woman swimming in the giant fish tank in the video. LOL
So that's why this song didn't make it because of Mary J Blige! I didn't even know they had more than 1 vid. So much for BET and Radio Stations playing their music because I would've have jammed this.
I like this version because the background vocals are fire! Plus, when they sing, “…My whole world’s up…” I like that inverted higher tone they sing. When Mary’s version came out, this group was quickly forgotten. If I mention this group, or sing the background vocals, nobody can relate. So sad, because they were well on their way. That’s the politics of the music industry.
Mary did them dirty. This is still my preferred version. These sistas killed it on on independent. Props! And these visuals is fire! Love the omages to the classic songstresses who came before them. Legendary shit!
Thanks for posting this...my family thought I was terribly mistaken when I mentioned a R&B girl group covered this song in the 90s. They thought I thought the multiple Mary Js were a group...smh. I even mentioned the scene where the girl with the braids dramatically scribbles on the mirror with her lipstick. Vindication!
There were so many.... Y?N-Vee and Brownstone, Pure Soul, Dead Can Dance's song "Mr. Lovegrove", My Life w/ The Thrill Kill Cult and D'Angelo. Those were good years for me. Thank You EinahChild for Throwin' Down Some Flava!! Take Care man. L8er vader.
If anybody wanna hear Natasha laying down vocals for the late Tupac just as lovely as she did on this solo y’all must search for the original version to Tupac’s Letter 2 My Unborn.
I use to love this group I wish their careers would have took off I really like their version and Mary j Blige the came out the same year and both videos was in black and white. I even remember the dance moves from this video
I love when she scratch that lipstick 💄 all over the mirror 🤣 I also love when the girl was swimming in the tank when Aaliyah did the song Rock the Boat I always thought of this video😁
I remember when this came out. They sounded really good then BOOM! Here comes Mary and their version just faded away like it never happened. They were cheated imo.
I hate to be a cliche' but THANK YOU SO MUCH. Like the other posts, I fell in love w/ this version and then you know who's came out. My radio station did a battle and Mary's won (no comment) and they never played this version again. I have just fulfilled a moment 23 years in the make'n.
I like them but Mary Had so much more feeling when singing it. You could feel the pain in the hurt in the song. This version is just a fancy version. Even the original Going down had feelings!.
Fuck Yes...... I MCed stripclubs for 16 years and this track ALL over Mary J's version. Mary J. Blige's version was solid, but if a dancer gave me the Blige CD and asked for this song, I asked her if she would do a different version and usually, they trusted me with beats. Whoooo, man, Goddamn if certain songs did Not get me some sexies. I fukkin miss this shit.
i remember this then mary came out with it and that was it I think the feeling mary has it in does something to me plus her video for it was so nice it won her a award for best video but i like how they tried to do the lady sings the blues part on this video with her putting the lipstick on the mirror like diana did
This is the best make of the song / here in pgh whn MJB drop her version they just stopped playing this i was soooooo pissed this group was really b4 their time came out whn MJB just STARTed Taking OVER
This came out about a month before Mary J's version came out. However, because of the movie, Waiting to Exhale, was a hit, this version got pushed to the side. I remember when you had to order this version on Da Box just to see it. So sad they didn't make it :(
CLosetHanaGa I agree w/u went back and got the cd. Still love it, I love this one cause it has a SEXUAL NEED FEEL not the heartache pain feel like Mary J. Both r good just different needs.
Though the lead singers vocals where good, but she did too many riffs, I still fucks with this song...but the highlight of this song is the background vocals when the lead singers goes ""Goin down" and he back ground singers ad libs (going dowww-own-own. That is a good addition that makes this song stand out. I see a lot of elements of En Vogue in this video.
Check out "Tricks N Training" on their album and tell me what artist of Puffy had their first single off that same beat....What a shame, those girls didn't have a chance.
I was a fan of the group. However, this version ain't touchin MJB's period. Not to mention it can't hardly mess with Rolls Royce so lets not get it twisted. It was a different rendition and that can be appreciated. Does anyone know what happened to these young ladies?
yea it was odd that Def Jam would release this knowing Mary had recorded the same version who at the time was also Queen of remakes...I remember thinking at the time I liked this one better but after careful analysis I'm gon roll with Mary's version...but I wish these girls had a chance but back then there were so much talented groups/artists/acts so many got lost in the sauce
These girls did alot of background vocals for pac and thuglife. They were pretty hot as far as looks go but they couldnt sing their way out of a wet paper bag. Man this shit is bad i cant believe my girlfriend at the time had this shit playin on the voicemail for her pager. I still miss the 90s
I still have their cd and remember thinking how disappointed I was in mary j's version of the song. compared to this? they have the old-school feel to the video, even the hiss of an old lp in the background. killing mary's version
I remember this group. I had the cd and they had some tracks and I agree this version of the song was actually better than Mary J's version but, Mary was a bigger artist so, she got all the shine. The lead singer on this song is the one that sang with tupac cause she was also dating pac at the time too. this was pac's group
@margiemarie100 Hi yah doing I was wondering the same thing too! This is the group that was on Phat Beach right? That's why I came online to see who Y?N Vee was! This is my first time knowing of them. They are pretty good. I prefer Rose Royce though! Nice Talking with yah!
Still love this version..people think im crazy wen i talk about this group..love em
Your not crazy.. They were a decent group!!!
chablis covington
I like them too. But this is not my favorite version. Mines is Mary J Blige
chablis covington when I talk about them most people don’t know who they are
People think I’m crazy when I do the “going doooooown” backgrounds lol. Crazy thing is: I haven’t heard this since I was little but that’s how much of an impact it made.
They don't be knowing
Alot of people also may not remember that Jada Pinkett directed this video. In the 90's I preferred this version over Mary's because Y?N-Vee did something different with the song. Mary's was good, but Y?N-Vee's was more entertaining for me. Memories.
I wondered where it went. It disappeared after Mary's version came out. Definitely preferred this version better
@@tamauroget3950Mary’s version overshadowed it.

I liked this version better as well. I remember the video playing often on The Box music television back in the day.
So that's why this song didn't make it because of Mary J Blige! I didn't even know they had more than 1 vid. So much for BET and Radio Stations playing their music because I would've have jammed this.
Yn vee was my number one group back in the mid 90.s I love me so Ynvee
Y? N-Vee, and Cece are my homies.Never come whack on an old school track.
R.I.P. Yenan Ragsdale- Winston. #71
E Tucker... what happen to her
she past from ovarian cancer
Brings back hella memories, I bought this CD, wish they would have went further in the industry
I like this version because the background vocals are fire! Plus, when they sing, “…My whole world’s up…” I like that inverted higher tone they sing. This is the first version of "I'm Going Down" that I heard and I remember loving it.

Love this! Prefer this to all versions including the original!
Me too🤷🏿♀️❤️
Yes I know I'm late for comments but this song right here still jamming 2019
If anybody wanna hear Natasha laying down vocals for the late Tupac just as lovely as she did on this solo y’all must search for the original version to Tupac’s Letter 2 My Unborn.
Always my favorite version 💜
I use to love this group I wish their careers would have took off I really like their version and Mary j Blige the came out the same year and both videos was in black and white. I even remember the dance moves from this video
Both versions(MJB & Y? N-Vee's) of this song came out at the exact same time......Mary J overshadowed their version.....
*DFigures129* yes but they were the first to come out with the remake
Yep I remember. I liked them 1st
I remember that like yesterday
Thats what I said, they should've def got some love for this..
Overshadowed? More like the powers that be...
Bet nobody knew this video was directed by Jada Pinkett (now Jada Pinkett Smith)
Hell naw I didn't know
Cool fact!!!😎
I did but I'm glad I'm not the only one that knows this
I haven't seen this in 20 years. I couldn't remember the name of the group.
Come to see my beautiful cousin YENAN talent...Rest In Heaven beautiful #Booze' Gang
What happened to her
Cancer
This was of the groups that just came out at the wrong time but you can't deny their talent
I AGREE ! I love their style.
I wish i could vote up a hundred times for this!
I love when she scratch that lipstick 💄 all over the mirror 🤣 I also love when the girl was swimming in the tank when Aaliyah did the song Rock the Boat I always thought of this video😁
Love you tee tee miss you so much
I'm soooo happy that someone just posted "Sonshine's Groove"
I remember when this came out. They sounded really good then BOOM! Here comes Mary and their version just faded away like it never happened. They were cheated imo.
I remember when that happened ..that was so messed up ..because these girls are talented .
They did this live on BET's Video Soul...if anyone can find that version I'll pay!!! It was sick...they're sooo much better than Mary J.
And Soul Train......
This was the best but Mary J. pulled a Curtis Taylor Jr. and it was over

I hate to be a cliche' but THANK YOU SO MUCH. Like the other posts, I fell in love w/ this version and then you know who's came out. My radio station did a battle and Mary's won (no comment) and they never played this version again. I have just fulfilled a moment 23 years in the make'n.

Don't care what ANYBODY says, this version was better than the Mary J one that was out at the same time.
Yes it was definitely
I like both versions ..I just wish Y?N VEE could've blown.up.more.

Jada Pinkett Smith Directed this...
I had this single on tape 🤧
Man... the dance moves was everything for me.
Was this the group that used do songs with Thug Life?
Yes
love it
I like this one too!
Fuck Yes...... I MCed stripclubs for 16 years and this track ALL over Mary J's version. Mary J. I love this.
Hot video, sexy choreography and it showed how versatile they were. Go Y?N-Vee!
I always liked this better than Mary J's version. Never understood why her dry hood version of this song was more popular.
I like the way they sing their chourus. The lead singer look like I love new york
Still one of the best versions of this song
Now that I've just watched . . . I prefer the original or Mary J Blige's version. I can't remember why I loved this version so much :-(
i remember this then mary came out with it and that was it I think the feeling mary has it in does something to me plus her video for it was so nice it won her a award for best video but i like how they tried to do the lady sings the blues part on this video with her putting the lipstick on the mirror like diana did
This is the best make of the song / here in pgh whn MJB drop her version they just stopped playing this i was soooooo pissed this group was really b4 their time came out whn MJB just STARTed Taking OVER
I like this version A little better than Mary's idk why.
Maybe cause I just love this group
The way ma baby be blowing on this song gives me chills and the group harmony is unbelievable
This came out about a month before Mary J's version came out. However, because of the movie, Waiting to Exhale, was a hit, this version got pushed to the side.
I remember when you had to order this version on Da Box just to see it. So sad they didn't make it :(
oh i remember this!
I dont care what anybody says, this version was way better than Mary J Blige's. Record industry politics sucks!
Foh she putting extras, Mary j stuck to the script
I agree...way better!
You are correct! she has one
Yesz, Sonshine, Nic-Nam, & Vayne...I STILL got this CD and been bumpin' it since it came out in 1994...Truly better than MJB's version...
I remember
CLosetHanaGa
I agree w/u went back and got the cd. Still love it, I love this one cause it has a SEXUAL NEED FEEL not the heartache pain feel like Mary J. Both r good just different needs.

This one is new to me. I wish I had heard it back in '94. I like it better than Mary's version.

@13PINEDALE they should of stayed in the race, and just dropped another single.
yea it was odd that Def Jam would release this knowing Mary had recorded the same version who at the time was also Queen of remakes...I remember thinking at the time I liked this one better but after careful analysis I'm gon roll with Mary's version...but I wish these girls had a chance but back then there were so much talented groups/artists/acts so many got lost in the sauce
I haven't seen this video for loooong time. I mean, long time. This song is such a classic!!! By the way, what's happened to them?
These girls did alot of background vocals for pac and thuglife. They were pretty hot as far as looks go but they couldnt sing their way out of a wet paper bag. Man this shit is bad i cant believe my girlfriend at the time had this shit playin on the voicemail for her pager. I still miss the 90s

O and along with the help of some other record executives had radio to stop playingY?N-VEE's version.
I like this song. Weren't they on Def Jam?
@mrclazz your right both were out the same time.
Nothing beats the original. I would rather hear Rose Royce's version than this one of Mary J's. Some songs should just never be remade!
I remember this group. I had the cd and they had some tracks and I agree this version of the song was actually better than Mary J's version but, Mary was a bigger artist so, she got all the shine. The lead singer on this song is the one that sang with tupac cause she was also dating pac at the time too. this was pac's group
Like Mary, but LOVE this version.
@anumbus they did do a lot of singing for him on Me Against the World cd and Thug Life
@margiemarie100 Hi yah doing I was wondering the same thing too! This is the group that was on Phat Beach right? That's why I came online to see who Y?N Vee was! This is my first time knowing of them. They are pretty good. I prefer Rose Royce though! Nice Talking with yah!
Damn I been looking for this siince they ripped it from the radio & put mary j's butt ass version on! Whew! This was my shit!
I like this one better then Mary J
yeah i know one of these ladies sang on tupac's album me against the world
It’s a shame that Mary J. Blige overshadowed these girls. Both versions were released around the same time
DEY LOOK LIKE EN VOGUE IN THIS VIDEO!
Better....I said it!
Mary did a way better job but they had a song called "4 play" youtube need to get that I want to see that video it used to come on channel 8
Jada was the director of this video
there's a song by a guy or group called raab called 4play. does anyone have that? if so, please send it to me.
I like this version better than Mary J. Blige's version.Mary's got a lot more air play tho.
