The translation here is all wrong. "The form of Giegue's was inexplicable" is improper grammar. Gyiyg says "ギーグからの こうげきのしょうたいが つかめない!" That translates to "You cannot grasp the true form of Gyiyg's attack!"
Luis Morales You're right. Anyway you watched this video?; "Mother 1 (Mato's 1+2 Translation) - Part 12 - Final Battle! Vs. Giygas and Ending" ?? The translation used in that video is waaaaaaaaaay better than the official one!
Nintendo was mostly focused on the release of the Super NES by the time this was ready for release here. I wasn't an RPG fan at the time myself but they should've released it just in time for Summer 1991 to tide gamers over until August when then SNES was available.
Let me guess. That looping music is supposed to create a eerie atmosohere for the battle. Don't forget that Earthbound Beginnings is almost two decades old, older than Earthbound, so lower your expectations when finding games like this, although Earthbound seemed to have rectified this.
Actually, the high pitched ringing is very fitting because it invokes fear and panic as the trio realizes that their power is *completely* eclipsed by Giegue's. The music corresponds to the characters' current mood in each specific situation. *Vs Giegue* - Only two beats are present and they're both high-pitched. The main beat is constant and it is accompanied by another high pitched string that fades into the endless first beat. The group is seized by fear initially, as they all are being bombarreded by some unfathomable psychic force while Giegue is speaking. The party uses every single overpowered attack they each have to offer while he is speaking about sparing Ninten's life (want Ninten to come back to his planet because he wants a companion) out of respect for his grandparents raising him, only for Giegue to be unfazed by all of it and for Ninten to decline. The party is seized by panic after the onslaught, Giegue seemed inexorable until Maria told them to sing her song, which proved to be his only weakness as he's trying to be a ruthless killer out of loyalty to his people (yet his vulnerability to Maria's song tells the play that he wants to hurt no one in reality.) *Vs normal enemy/bosses* - Dynamic beats with unpredictable strings binding them together. The hero's don't know what the enemies will do or what powers they have, yet, they still remain confident for they CANNOT afford to lose and must press on in any way they can. *In a town/city* - A large amount of varying beats and strings that have uplifting or invigorating touches. The hero's can relax and be assured that they will safe and free from the dangerous enemy's present outside of the town/city. *Caves/machine complexes* - The lack of beats and strings heavily imply that the hero's are cautious, yet not afraid. *Mt. Itoi* - The main beats are emphasized and are backed by smaller, much weaker beats that loop and string together. The hero's find themselves getting *very* close to the main villain's headquarters. Considering how ridiculously strong the enemies here truly are, the hero's are definitely scared, yet they press forward because they're fighting for more than just themselves. They're fighting for Teddy and everyone else who has been hurt by Giegue's minions and Giegue himself.
@@AndyChinICanBeAnyone Are you for real, dude? By the time this game was made, other games had decent soundtracks already... Lower your fanboyism for a change.
Well Ninten is the name of the main character in this game. Alot of opinion and theory lean towards Ninten being Ness's father in earthbound for the SNES however that's only speculation. That would mean Ness finishes the job his father couldn't finish in the first mother game, which also leads some to believe That Ninten (Dad in Earthbound) was so gung-ho in wanting his son to keep fighting. Think about it.
I think that's true because in earthbound I don't remember when but there is this part when you see Ninten walk in to a house and goes to this baby cradel with ness in it and starts talking about ness I don't remember what he says I think this Cutscene happens after you beat ness's nightmare
It's because he was raised by Ninten's (Bob's) great grandparents who were abducted by Giygas' race. That song, the eight melodies was sang by Maria, who took care of Giygas. He had to prepare for eighty years to attempt to forget the kindness shown to him by her. The song forced back those memories, making him emotionally unsound.
Alien race with psychic powers kidnaps George & Maria; they raise Giegue as their own. George somehow escapes and returns to Earth with knowledge of PSI, which begins to manifest in humans as result. Giegue's species orders him to stop it before humans can comepete/threaten them. Maria's memory/soul is trapped in a dream or something, has Ninten to remember the song she sang to Giegue when he was a baby. The PSI trauma of betraying his 'Mother' forces Giegue to retreat. He becomes Giygas.
Has anyone else notice that when Giegue is about to attack it sounds like it is really going to do damage but when it hits it sounds like he just through a rock at Ninten?
Take a melody Simple as can be Give it some words and Sweet harmony Raise your voices All day long now Love grow strong now Sing a melody of love Oh love
Giegue and Giygas are one and the same. In the Japanese versions I believe he is called Gyiyg in both cases. If Nintendo had gone ahead and released Mother 1 as Earth Bound as they had originally intended, Mother 2 would have been called Earth Bound 2 and Giygas might have been called Giegue in that one too.

In the Famicom release(which doesn't have the run command and has a longer magicant dungeon) Teddy died soon after the battle against an X-800 series Robot. If you check him after reuniting with Lylod in the English prototype, the text says he seemed to stop breathing. In the Japanese version, its probably more direct ,with something along the lines of "Teddy's breathing has stopped."
Guard still works even if the attack comes before the message. Notice that Asha takes more damage on turns when Asha uses lifeup and also the other party members take more damage in the singing phase than they did before.
@GlennAoyama You forgot the part about how Giegue/Giygas/gyig cannot fully comprehend human emotions but can still feel them thanks to Maria, and because of this, it damages his psyche (mental state) which in turn damages him physically because of his reliance on psi. Humans cannot understand Giygas/Guigue/gyig's power because they do not and cannot know the full potential if Psi. That is why when Ninten(do) sings the song, he can feel human emotions, but cannot understand them, thus hurting Him
Also, EB's Giygas isn't evil, just misunderstood.... Like Godzilla... I guess. He just wanted to be friends with Ness (Ness's face shown was a greeting, perhaps.) and co., if only he would've accepted, sigh.
