It was unbelievable IDIOTIC!!! The filmmakers are trying to create another "John Wick" genre. What's next? "NOBODY" versus "THANOS"... give me a break. Let's stick to movies a bit more believable... this character, what's his name? Hutch Mansell does not have a single muscle in his body and beats the CRAP out of 5-6 guys inside a bus? C'MON!!!

I have a different theory - we both know Hutch served - when the hacker pulled his info and it was redacted, usually that's the case to ensure mil personal that may be elite forces are not easily doxed. Secondly, why would the old timer say "Thank you for your service" clearly that meant that tattoo is related to military service.
For those that are confused : 72 with a club/diamond = 72nd Division or 72nd Infantry Division - SFOD-A aka - Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha. No wonder the old timer knew immediately who he was dealing with. That task force is a small circle.
It would be cool to see if Hutch served with John in the same op at some time.

The build up to the bus scene is fantastic. You can feel his absolute rage wanting to escape and beat the shit out of someone. The music in this film also sets the scene and is well chosen

@@DanielQuan97 That has to be one of the most badass lines in film history. Who in that situation actually wants that door opened? Anyone else would be praying for the driver to just beat it out of there.
You missed the part where he finds his daughters bracelet in the basement after he killed everyone.
I found that part of the movie funny, because it's really his daughters fault of losing the bracelet that caused everything.
And it is such a wonderful mistake that only a kid would do. I found that part the best too
It was in the living room, and the bracelet ended up there due to the couple who robbed him spilling the bowl over throwing the bracelet under the couch.

When the Russian girl doing research on Hutch . Found out what kind of bad ass he was thru the papers at her boss and said he was on his own. right then you knew nobody wanted to screw with him. even her mob type boss.

This movie is going to be an instant action classic. It was gratuitous fun. The sound track was just awesome. His seeming indifference to violence by his always calm demeanor throughout is classic.

@@toofar2real It was meant to be, I think. John Wick is kinda taken more seriously because it takes itself so seriously, but Nobody from pretty much the beginning to the end is designed to get you absolutely fucking hyped about this dude just beating the ever loving fuck out of EVERYBODY.
I love how he's always having cathartic moments of self reflection around bad guys who are dying. A sincere monologue of why he is the way he is with people that's he's almost killed. And right when he comes to the point or moment of clarity he looks to the bad guy to find them fully expired. What a great film 🍻

It speaks to something more to me. His soliloquy to the dying is his way of having intimacy that can't come back to haunt him. His distrust of the living means he can only confide in the dying.
The Christopher Lloyd soliloquy concerning 'retirement' almost felt like he was talking about his own personal life,when you consider he was in the biggest movie on the planet(in its day) and he was in the biggest TV sit-com on the planet(in its day AND pre-internet),and then he disappeared for about 35 years,only to resurface in this...im gonna say it now...

The search for the tattoo artist is an analogy for his going back to his "dead" life. The scene shows him entering and exiting various tattoo parlors, all on street level, all without success. Then they show him walking downstairs, in the darkness, to a below street-level place. He's literally going into the ground. That's where we find out about his former life and where he finds success and cements his path back into that life.

The Claymore scene at the end was something I cannot ever remember seeing in any movie, but I always wanted to. It was glorious.
Movies are entertainment, but there is a thin line that you can't cross 'cause it becomes then not funny and absurd! Take a look at KICK-ASS, the first one. Peppering an action film with comedy is hardly original, but the mocking tone and off-kilter vibe set this film apart. It even has a hearty dose of fun, thanks mostly to the most outrageous performance by Chloë Grace Moretz when she was 13 years of age...

To me, it was completely unexpected. The movie was perfectly cast. It subverted all of our expectations in so many scenes. It was also great that they had so many classic actors playing support roles.
That scene was a ripoff of the Dark Knight, where the Joker has a hand grenadine inside his coat.

As you already know, it was under the couch. I liked the movie, and it had the hint of setting up another, yet didn't make it obvious. I found the basement comment by Connie Nielsen at the end hilarious. They all pulled it off.
I ended it laughing due the basement reference at the end 😅

Hutch was going to ask if the new house had a "safe room", I think, but he paused unsure how to ask, and his wife picked up the thought. Basements can be remodeled, even if it's just a heavy door as in their first house.
This was a great movie. My wife and I rented it and we watched it 3 times. I think Hutch grabbed the painting because earlier he was told that the Russian collected art that was in the 9 figures range. Not a bad little nest egg to start over.
The bedroom painting by Van Gogh, VG did it 3 times, his childhood bedroom. So the painting has multiple versions ... just as there are multiple versions of Hutch. (I didn't know this offhand, it was in another "Nobody" review; I googled and the comment is factual.)
I loved the detail in this movie.

The part I liked the most about the film was the fact the Odenkirk is a complete badass in the move and seems like a natural action man, yet he was originally a comic and a comedic writer. Knowing he put in two years of his life just training into character only improves on all of this.
I thought/think his wife knew all along and even was involved in Hutch's deeds as an auditor. At least, that's how I perceived the "Do you remember what we used to be?" and the discussion about how it's like "in the good old times" when she gives him medical treatment for his injuries.
My thought to why he took the Van Gogh painting was to sell it and help his family (new house, kids college, the Italy trip, restoring his new business, etc.). Government agents don't get paid much and he was smart enough to realize money goes up and down in value, but great art usually maintains a high worth. Plus it was easier to carry than stacks of cash.

Iirc, the painting that he took is Bob's way of referencing his hometown (Chicago) st it's displayed at the Chicago Art Institute.
Or he just appreciates the historical value.
That painting is worth over $50 million… probably 100$$$
I am not sure a world famous painting (which means the one in museums is probably a fake) is the most useful asset in that you can only sell it to a very select group, and they would have to know you to trust that it is real. I think it was more about him saving what was beautiful in the midst of destruction as a metaphor for him preserving his family even while he steps back into his old life.
This movie was the biggest GOOD surprise in cinema for me since "Joker" back in 2019. Bob Odenkirk really did pull it off, and so did Christopher Lloyd, who blew me away (pun intended) with how good the two worked together.
At first I didn't realize it was Christopher Lloyd, I had to do a double take. He was perfect. Even believable.
Not sure if anyone brought this up, but his father has the same tattoo on his left wrist. You get a glimpse of it when he is attacked by the 2 guys at the home. When the security guard tells him to turn down the TV and camera pans back, he is holding 1 of the guys with his right hand to keep him shut but on his left he has a remote in which you can see the tattoo
Not only did the old man have one, but so does Hutch's half brother played by RZA. It's on his knuckles. It looks like 9-4 offsuit.
Another lil layer to Hutch's tattoo is when you line up poker suites and tarot decks, the spade is tbe sword, which *can* (listen, people take interpreting cards way tooooo seriously sometimes) represent death, loss and misfortune. The other lines up with the suite of coins, which can obviously represent money and fortune.
Which means the tattoo can also mean "This man deals in death and misery for money/rewards"
But that explanation falls apart when you try to find the military connection which was a fundamental part of the scene. The military doesn't do death for monetary gain per se. It's always covered in political excuses.
@@AnttiBrax hutch wasn’t regular infantry, and he definitely didn’t do normal day to day military shit. His whole thing was they sent in people like him when the CIA/DEA/whatever letters fucked up hard that they needed a clean slate. Those kinds of people tend to be very well paid
Spoiler Alert!
I like the scene where Hutch buy the shop where he work, the guys are arguing who owned it until Hutch punched the young guy in the stomach and straightaway Hutch changed his reaction telling him "Take a deep breath..."
I was laughing so hard for this of his quick reaction. Bob Odenkirk is really good actor after watching him in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul which is the reason i watch this. It is amazing!
The slug fest in the bus was a little ridiculous. Punches coming from a mile back, punch to the jaw (always a bad idea). This one punch of the obnoxious son was done right. One fist up as shield, the other short and powerful to the diaphragm, at last, Hutch seems to know what he's doing.
But it's all part of the build up as Hutch gets his mojo back, I think. The bus fight, he's just warming up.
In the deleted scenes that guy is Hutch's brother in-law and the owner was his wife's father.
My only problem with this movie is wasn't longer and developed so fast. I hope the sequels have longer running times.
No that's why it's great! Some movies take way too long to set up or have way too much exposition. Very complex movies can do that and be great like The Matrix for instance.
But what made John Wick great? Within 25 minutes you know to not fuck with Wick and he's going to murder everyone in his way. You didn't need to see his backstory.
This movie does a great job of giving you this Joe Schmo who surprise isn't someone you fuck with. I would argue it took a little too long to get to it's action. But the simple tattoo scene, the lady hacker peacing out, and him just saying "i was an auditor , you don't want to see me" was all you need.
In the end some movie are better for just happening and other movies need to be explained.

The ending felt completely rushed and underdeveloped
It's a comedy, so it can't go in to detail that seriously, it needs to be subtle, it's what makes it funny and still holds you at the edge of your seat.
I really wanted to see the neighbor get pist when he stole his car😂

One of my favorite action pix ever.
One thing that struck me was how he seemed to be energized by the horrible wounds he was getting during the bus fight. Also while he loved his "normal life" (that giant LP collection), he almost was gleeful when burning it all down, like he was freeing himself to let that darker side back into his life. Finally at the very end when his wife finishes his sentence asking if the new house has a basement, it is evident he is not going back to the way things were.
When Yulian's character ist being introduced, the song playing and which he ends up singing in his club is the Russian pop song "Бухгалтер" (accounting clerk) which gives us a foreshadowing of Yulian's role as the watcher over the общак (the mob money).
Also, the club is called "Malina" which means "raspberry" in Russian but is also a slang term for a mob hideout.

The markings "Front Toward Enemy" in a claymore mine means serious business. With Nobody brandishing it in the club like the Joker with grenades under his jacket is classic Boss level.
They walked the line of "I want to know more details about the Nobody files" and "I don't want details about the Nobody files"
I want to know what everyone is scared of but part of its coolness is the mystery and how it can seem to scare anyone who understands what they are looking at
I rated this movie 9/10. Absolutely great movie. And 1h30 time was perfect

The wife and I got a kick out of how many locks he had on that door. 😁

That scene had us all dying in the theaters....one guy shouted "I think you forgot the chain lock!"
Regarding the Tattoo, and I am no expert here but I think it indicated the 2nd & 7th, US Marines 2nd Battalion 7th Marines Division. They saw a lot of action in the first and second gulf wars in Iraq as well as in Afghanistan in the 2010's. This would explain the instant recognition from the Vet in the tattoo shop.
I think there's a deeper meaning on it. Seeing a fellow vet wont make you go in a secure room with bulletproof doors and locked yourself in with 5 bolts

Hutch is a retired Black Ops Operative, he literally says to that one dying mobster: ''I was an Auditor and worked for the agency with the 3 big letters. I was the last thing, you would see....''
In other words: he was an assasin for the government, propably working for the CIA. Usually these guys are recruited from the military. Former Army Rangers/Green Berets, Marine Recon/MARSOC, Navy SEALS. They're already trained with weapons, hand-to-hand combat & tactics and then get even more training in order to blend in, take out targets quietly, surveilance etc. etc. Similar to the ''Assets'' from the Jason Bourne movies, the US and other governments have this type of operatives in service, in real-life.

I loved this movie so much, people dying when he's trying to to stories, badass action that legit made me excited to watch, Odenkirk, all of it was just beautiful. Also the kitten was cute as hell
As a father myself I can’t help but find more emotional connection to Nobody than I felt towards john wick. Don’t get me wrong wick is still amazing but nobody is a family man and THAT is what makes it so compelling. In my opinion anyway.
I loved this movie. I think it did for me what it did for audiences of Vanishing Point in the 70s. Giving us a visualization of some of our fantasies. Kowalski takes a hopped up Challenger and speeds off into the west for no particular reason - how often do you dream of driving as fast as you can on open roads? Kowalski was seen as “the last American hero.” In the same way, Nobody puts us in the situation of “what would I do if someone broke into my house and threatened my family?” Everyone thinks about this scenario and how they would react... some more violently than others. Both films also feature white Challengers which is a nice touch.

Odenkirk isn't just violent. He was right to restrain himself with the two nearly hysterical robbers, he understood them, and understood more (and so do we) when we see them at home, living cheaply, in love with each other, a sick baby.
His reactions are measured and controlled.
I took the tattoo as a sign of what you are getting when the person with it arrives, with however hutch is sent after ‘receiving the worst hand’, it makes sense when you compare it to his job being the ‘auditor’ as in the last person you’d ever want to see. You combine them together and you get the last person you ever want to see and he’s the worst of them.
I’m glad to see hutch moved well beyond starsky
Russian song that the gangster sings in the club - it's an old one, from 90-s, and it's about an accountant. Bob Odenkirk's character works as an accountant for his father-in-law :)
Having known several Operators Hutch fits the archetype more accurately than almost any other I've seen on the screen. Hesitant to use violence, but imminently capable of it without remorse. Calm and patient until it's time to "turn it on." Operators need the ability to be calm and level headed, to disappear into the crowd, and the commitment to completely follow through once violence has been required. He doesn't use a ton of Jason Borne flash nonsense, he uses brutality which is far more effective. The one who wins the fight is the one who's prepared to sacrifice "the rules" and do whatever is necessary.
Loved when he erased the number of days since there was an injury at the shop 😂
I paid 20 bucks to rent it. That's a lot of money to rent a movie. I'm not disappointed.
I paid $24 for my wife and I to see it at a drive-in, we weren't disappointed either.

The music really is part of the plot. The most obvious and stunning, to me, is "Yulian" singing the "follow my star" song from the Broadway version of "Don Quixote".
Quixote is insane. He see windmills as giants, a barmaid as virtuous lovely lady, its all funny to start.
But by the end of the original novel he sees a carriage full of nuns as monsters, and in the other direction a noble knight as a vicious killer. And he's deciding, which shall he kill first?
Quixote is dangerously insane.
So is "Yulian".
I loved the intro scene how in handcuffs in the interrogation room and before he speaks to the officers he meticulously takes care of a kitten, which is very much like the scene in The Godfather while at the same time being very contradictory to the same scene.
I thought about the Godfather when the daughter had an orange in her mouth. 🙂

Honestly this movie was amazing, the soundtrack, the fight scenes, the characters, only weak thing is the generic russian bad guy
As a russian, i dare to disagree. While it is true that a 'russian bad guy' is a cliché, for the first time it is really portrayed in a way that russians would believe he's russian. I don't know how noticeable the difference is for the western audience, but its been a breather.
I mean, I wouldn't say he is totally generic but the russian mobster, rich and dangerous bad guy trope is a bit played I guess.
But I know many russians and they loved this character so I guess his portrayal was at least faithful.

Also, being a highly trained government assasin, even a retired one, doesn't hurt....
I would agree that you don't need bulky muscles, but you do need a certain level of strength. For instance, most of the people I know who actually had a real Special Forces background were relatively thin, wiry types you probably wouldn't look twice at if you saw them on the street. They trained for endurance over pure strength, but they weren't exactly what you would call weak.
In that case my 93 year gran is going to be in the next movie boom
I’ve watched this movie four times already every watching was as great as the first . A great entertaining movie
Hutch Mansell is easily one of the best movie characters i’ve ever seen in 2021.
You never knew what to expect from him, had a cool backstory, his kills are creative, a very loving husband & father and the final battle at the warehouse with RZA and BADASS Christopher Lloyd is one of the best scenes of the decade!
Another plus factor is Bob Odenkirk’s outstanding performance and the tough training he did to do these fighting moves (check the Behind the Scenes footage, it’s really impressive what he did).
Mark my words!

Good Analysis but the 2/7 card Tattoo is most likely a reference to the real deck of cards used in the 2003 invasion where High Value Targets were marked with playing cards and each card corresponded to an HVT
I loved this movie! In part because of Odenkirk being so meek at first and just a plain popcorn movie badass nevertheless!!! The pedigree of the director solid me too. It's worth seeing in the theater too! But that's because having that experience again after so many months not being able to is just worth it just that much more!!!

I caught basically all of that but I really like the way that it was explained and broken down. This is the first movie ever that has met all my expectations from watching the trailer. Really enjoyed it
I didn't see the escalation of action as ridiculous, but as Nobody getting less rusty throughout the movie. I mean, it's been probably like 2 decades since he last fight.
There are two types of people who didn't enjoy this movie:
People who don't like action movies, and people who didn't understand that they were watching a comic book movie.

This guy is cool! best action movie 2021 so far!
I laughed my ass off through the entire movie (didn't even know what to expect), especially (I hope I can say this here as this is usually seen by people who already seen the movie) when he found the bracelet in his home while he teaches the mafia assassin squad, literally the reason why everything escalated was no problem at all, no chekhovs gun was left unfired, and being a movie with a John Wick writer on board, you obviously gonna know there will be a shit ton of guns, figuratively and literally, which made for an extremely satisfying experience.
Also noteworthy is how grounded this movie is compared to most other action movies. There are not many cases where my suspension of disbelief was utterly shattered, except the last act, which was totally bogus and outlandish. I wonder if this was intentional.
Insane attention to detail, likable characters, charismatic villian with a killer entrance, mystery threads that engage the viewer and a shit ton of bloody action, what more could I expect?

K but fr the traps were awesome. The mouse trap shotgun blasts, the frag being squished, the the nail bombs, the rigged up land mines, burns the money by putting gas through the sprinklers. Fuck the rebar launching was madness too. I thought the mouse traps were the coolest trap but shit the fucking claymore on the bullet proof glass riot shield he made was absolutely insane. Those things shoot 10000 little steal balls at an insane force along with the explosion
Yes in on direction aka this side tword enemy, but the backblast would be fatal without the shield, and likely fatal with it.

Really liked the movie. I can't get past people referring to the 1972 Dodge Challenger engine as a 4.9 liter, No such thing in a 72, also, who refers to muscle car engines in liters???
