- Old age and bad knees don't necessarily stop you when you have an E bike and this video shows what you can do and how you can get out and explore places like this yourself. This trip was beautiful, rough going at times, but so worth it. E bikes are getting very popular and I see them go past my house several times a day now. I'm hooked on their use and I especially like them for camping.
This isn't a review of the Magicycle, but I do discuss why I like it.

Getting out on the road is what Linda and I love to do with our converted cargo trailer camper. We're part time nomads and the nomadic lifestyle suits us to a Tee. Whether your RV is a camper van, camp trailer, travel trailer, motorhome or just a car and a tent, there's going to be something interesting for you in the videos we produce. Back roads and overlanding are part of what we do while exploring the western states for beautiful, peaceful and sometimes remote places to camp on BLM and National Forest land (public land). Taking care of ourselves as much as possible and doing our own repairs is a must because we travel on a fixed income and a limited budget. If you're into being off-grid and boondocking or doing dispersed camping whenever possible then you'll appreciate the discussions on batteries, solar panels and solar chargers or power stations and 12v refrigeration. Come on along, we're happy to have your company!

This is the same video I posted about a week ago, but I had to take it down for editing. This is the updated version.
I like your determination and sense of adventure, i hope and prey I'm the same when and if i reach your age, I am an ebike rider and i love every minute of it myself, and i suffer from a bad knee from a motorcycle crash many years ago when i was younger, keep going and never give up that's the way we should all live our lives.
22:50 the most serene, beautiful part of the video IMO. You making coffee, taking your own time, the sunlight, the warmth. I've watched this on loop on my big monitor a couple of times
🤙
Nice video, but didn’t you already post this video, or am I crazy?
Repost from 10 days ago I think ?
Yes, it's a repost. I had some additional editing to do on it. Sorry for the confusion, thanks for watching it again!
I love Montana, your a tough retired elder bird...Thanks for the glimpse of paradise...
Thank you.
I feel like I got a grand tour today. I really enjoyed exploring with you, getting to know a little bit more about e-bikes, but what I really appreciate is your respect for the land. After your fire, you dismantle the fire ring and like you said no one would even know that you were there. Unlike some people who leave their trash behind or people who leave attend to place hold a site for a week, you and Linda demonstrate how to Camp responsibly and still have fun.
Most of our campsites in Montana are pretty clean, as far as I can tell, but I've seen some really trashy areas in other places and it sure is disheartening.
Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Nice view, it's so great to connect with nature with ebike, looking forward to more these videos!
Thanks for the shout out!
Found this information very helpful
Very very beautiful country. You are so lucky to have all the camp spots. I too am doing alot of tent camping. I purchased a Gazelle so I have to be able to get the Jeep to my camp location. Somehow I missed this in June . I try to watch all your videos
Looks like same video I watched a few days ago.
Great video Rick! I have not commented in a while, but emensly enjoy your videos. Congrats to you and Linda for creating such a great channel...you two stay safe...m
Welcome back! Thank you for your kind words, Michael.
what a great video my friend👍 really enjoyed to exploring with you, I come from Norway and also loves the outdoors as you and your wife do. Will see your other videos as they look very interesting so thanks for sharing your adventures with us, atb Hans Petter
Thank you for watching, Hans!
You have to deal with camping place holders. One of my pet peeves is lawn chair placeholders for 4th of July, Christmas parades, etc. The owners will place chairs in a convenient parking space then go off to do as they please for hours. In the meantime if you don't get there 4 or 5 hrs. Early you got to park a mile away and hoof it. Of course it's always the front row seats taken.
Love how you call Her Baby the altitude in Montana will get you every time I don't care what age. God Bless you and your family "Happy Trails "
Yes it does, and I'm actually in great shape, but even in "walk" mode I had to keep up with the bike going uphill. I don't mind though, it keeps me healthy.
Great watching your video. You are doing what I do. 67 until I get on my ebike, then I feel like 50 again. My wife is also not riding any more and is more then happy to get me out of the house for a few hours. Living in East Missoula I have the same type of country to ride in, blessed for sure. Sitting here with the temperature at 8 degrees and dropping, its fun to watch you ride the same type of trails and roads. Keep up the videos, they are well done.
Thank you very much! Yeah, we're currently hibernating just like you, but are planning on an extended trip south later this winter. Gotta thaw out.
It's a very good eike for elders to ride in the nature
Beautiful country, I am very envious.
We're trying to get out of town this week, if all goes well.
Thanks for the No Trace campfire. ;-)
Just discovered your channel, Great video! I grew up on the base there in Great Falls and spent many a weekend (and some weekdays) camping out there just outside of Monarch (and way west up at Gibson Reservoir). I'm just getting into e-bike camping/bikepacking and hope I'll find myself back up that way sometime soon. Sadly I live in Kansas now so it's a bit of a trek haha.
Magicycle just came out with the new "Deer" model and you'll get to see it in about a month. It's going to be great for the type of riding you're talking about.
It blows my mind the crazy, rough trails you ride on! I don't know how you keep from falling off! Very impressive!
Thank you, Janet. I'm not a good rider yet but I enjoy what I can do.
@@gonagain You're welcome! I think you do just great on those bikes! I'm planning on getting an ebike & your reviews have been great!
..cool video keep up the great content.. Thank you…
Thanks MUCH! GReat share and video! You make it look ALMOST too easy! (Yep we are about same age) and I would be huffing a LOT more :) ALL THE BEST and Cheers :)
Impressive
I did a 19.6 mile ride on my e bike last weekend and it made me feel your age too!! It was a blast though. I couldn't have walked that far so it definitely gets you out further.
Thats a nice long ride!
Like number 524. Awsome ride Rick . Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙏
Thanks for watching, Bill.
My bike came wirh a suspension seat opost.
Gave it away and replaced with a dropper seat post with the lever under the seat instead of on the bars,
Two reasons .First, to let the seat down so I can get my weirht back and as low as possible for steap decents Plus, so I get get on on off of a very tall bike.
I am 80 and have severe macular degeneration so I only ride the six miles to the post offuice/
I also believe in slime in the tire.
Thanks for another great adventure video. I believe I have seen all of them and look forward to more.
Thank you very much, I will be looking at dropper seat posts. See you on the next video!
Great video Rick,
Yes, they save places like that on the Bighorns too, and the forest service says they don't have the manpower to enforce the 14 day rule. Drove Jo-Ann and I crazy too.
The funny thing is that last year I was able to find that rule in writing, but now I don't see it mentioned anywhere in the NF regs.
@@gonagain
Did you try calling and asking where it is?
The Ebikes have been marketed for hunters for a while they would make getting around much easier for us as we age
I just got back from a ride here in town and love that I can ride a bike again.
How you bringing your game back?
Good video second time around. I would always keep a eye on that battery. A man would have a long walk back to camp. I would bet any one coming by thinking Linda was a easy target while you were gone would end up like a hunk of Swiss cheese. You two take care and stay safe.
She has a wall full of shooting awards and a killer instinct to go along with them, so you're right! Over a thousand years of Samurai history helps too. She actually has written family history going back that far and that just amazes me.
I know you feel your age but keep moving my friend. It is good for ya
Hi Rick Hi Linda. Bruzetta and I say Hello, and Hope you are having a Good Time, each and every day. Gonagain is 'The Best' off road adventure travel channel Anywhere on UA-cam. 🤗 👍 👊 👏👏👏👏👏 Whatever you do, Please Don't Stop. 👋
We're trying to hit the road again this week and the videos will be more timely.
Rick this is a repeat. Or it may be Deja vu. I may be old but my mind isn't that far gone lol. Still a nice ride and I am still looking for the Bear. Take care stay safe.
Yep, I had to take down the original and make some edits. This one is reposted.
I really enjoyed the ebike ride. Thanks for taking us along. I have an ebike I ride in my neighborhood. It's an Areial Rider "Grizzly". It's all wheel drive. Front and rear wheel motors. Have you tried Tannus Armor Inserts for your tires? Thanks again for the wonderful video.
You have a nice bike. I haven't tried the Tannus inserts yet and have been depending on either Slime or Flat-Out so far. We'll see how that goes.
One of the best and most beautiful videos by you that I have seen. When you stand up for the big bumps, do you bend your knees a little bit? Thank you for sharing.
Jim Walsh
Yes, I sure do.
Wasn't this uploaded last week? I am sure I have already watched this!
Yes, it was but I had some additional editing to do on it. Thanks for watching it again, Allen.
I just love your adventures! So peaceful and interesting. Do you carry a personal locator with you? Especially on your ebike explorations. Just wondering.
Yes, I take a Garmin InReach with me. Thanks for watching, Lea.
I have been thinking of getting one of these bikes but it looks like yours's bounces to much for me, Good video. Cheers.
What you need for those steep climb is a high powered 1k+ watt mid drive that is properly geared for steep climbs. 28-30T front chain ring and atleast a 42-52 rear 1st gear. Front chain ring CANNOT be as huge as that on the magicycle. EUNARAU has the new specter st step thru mid drive that u might wanna look at
Thanks for the information. I'm aware of those bikes and they would be a great mountain bike for sure.
Enjoyed your adventure today. I bought the Aventon Aventure e-bike a couple weeks ago. I have been enjoying the rides on the bike trails around Little Rock but now I am ready to do some forrest road exploration this summer. I also bought a tent and some other camping gear. Your channel has been a big inspiration to motivate me to get out and explore.
Will the Bluettie work for recharge of an e-bike with a 3 amp charger and run a CPAP machine for the night?
It will, depending on how big a Bluetti you get and how low your ebike battery is. With s 1,000wh power supply, If your ebike battery was at 50 percent, then you should have enough left over to run your cpap after charging the bike.
Magicycle is introducing a step thru, 20 in and 20 AH ebike come August, they should send you one to try out, I am sure it is intended for senior riders like us.
Great Video I'm use to watching metropolitan ebike video on flat manicured trails. I think you put that bike thru extremes wich shows endurance of bike and rider. Kudos to 72 and riding especially off road. I'm 64 a little overweight I'm getting ready to ride around here. I'm curios what is your experience with flat tires especially riding off road. My biggest fear is getting flat tire. I happen to see magicycle adventure in drop down so I checked out the video. Thanks for Sharing.
I've only had a couple of flats and they were both on the front, which is easier to fix. The best thing you can, and should, do it to put either Slime or Flat-out in your tires to make them self-sealing, that will help a lot. I also carry a flat repair kit, which is simple to use, and if I'm going far in rough conditions, I carry a spare tube. The Slime or Flat-Out should take care of most problems though.
We do trust your opinions
Thank you for saying that, Jay. Appreciate hearing that.
I heard the Forest Service is towing trailers people are leaving at their favorite camp site
If they did that and the word got out, then that would help stop this problem.
On that hill you kept saying looked so difficult to get up... You don't need to make it so difficult by going straight up. Even highway departments all over the world know to keep traversing the hill or mountain to go up or down.
I could see in your video that you could have moved slightly uphill and to your left, then traverse the hill by going across the hill working your way up and to the right side of the hill. Then you'd have gone uphill enough you could have topped the hill going slightly up and to the left again to crest the hill.
Good luck in the future.
Nomad
We can't go gallivanting for two years then we'll retire and need your help we're from Montana as well
I know you're looking forward to that! I didn't really retire, I just quit my high stress job and then never bothered looking for another one. Then this channel came along and I'm working even harder! But no stress. Hang in there, two years goes fast.
Any chance you will be able to test out 3 wheel e-bikes for us old folks that don't have as good of balance as when we were younger?
There's always a chance of that happening but no guarantees.
Magicycle would have made it up that hill. 1589 right now. 52 volt battery with 750 watt hub
Breathing pretty hard, better take it easy. Built an E-Bike but bought a 75 dollar Chinese battery, BIG MISTAKE! Ended up with a heart attack trying to peddle it home.
Do you use a torque wrench on your bikes to check and adjust? If yes, have you found one yet you recommend? We watched it for the 2nd time and still enjoyed.
Most things on a bike aren't too critical IF you have experience in tightening things up, but if you feel more comfortable using a torque wrench then you need two different types, a foot pound wrench and an inch pound wrench (for lighter jobs). I recommend that you buy through Amazon because you can easily see how well each brand is rated and make your decision accordingly.
@@gonagain Thanks for the tips
.... 'love the way you love ur wife .... Quality man! ✨ (ask the old women... they know)
Make a cup of coffee for the Sasquatch too
He's so socially inept! Doesn't even bring donuts.
Hey you were supposed to come by Deer Lodge Montana stay at our house and help my husband refurbish this motorhome what happened. Remember you asked if you should bring your tools
If only there were two of me!
Rick…please don’t over exert yourself in wanting to take us to new heights. Don’t want anything happening to you alone out yonder and Linda not being able to reach you. Turn around whenever the going gets tough as there’s always another path to venture on. 🚴
I appreciate it Linda, thank you for thinking of me.
BTW, buy yourself a GARMIN In-Reach rescue beacon in case something disabling would happen to you. Check it out.
Thanks, Eric, I have one and never leave home without it. Great product.
What is the altitude on this bike ride might explain shortness of breath.
It's about 5500ft and pushing an 80lb bike up a steep and rough trail will do it.
Great video I had ordered a Magicycle Bike it was on its way then the shipping got all messed up I ended up canceling the order Because I had a trip planned and I wanted to take an E-bike so you’re not buying a cheaper one forget the name of it It’s OK my daughter likes it so she will probably buy it off me and then I’ll order another majocycle
I just got off mine from a trip here in town and it's like riding a Cadillac. Very smooth.
@@gonagain That’s one thing about that cheap one I got it’s not really a smooth ride but I’m only 40 years old so I don’t think it’ll hurt me 😳 but I am a truck driver😒
You need a 11-34 tooth freewheel
06:45 time mark _ Walk Assist function (Magicycle Owner's Manual refers to it as "Push Assist"). The Magicycle Cruiser Owner's Manual says that the push assist is set for "less than 6 Km/h" which is 3.7 mph. 3.7 mph is a reasonably brisk walk pace, about 16 minutes per mile. The Ocelot Pro is supposed to be set the same, yet when I checked the speed of my bike's push assist function, it clocked in at 5.2 mph or about 11-1/2 minutes per mile.
12 minutes per mile is a good jogging pace. I have to RUN in order to keep up with my Ocelot when the push assist function is activated. I've talked with other Cruiser owners and they have remarked the same thing, that the push assist function is set way too fast for them to maintain control of their bikes.
So, I'm wondering how and why your Cruiser is much slower. I mean it looks like you're walking up the hill at something between a 1-1/2 mph to 2 mph pace. With the Cruiser's 70 newtons of torque (96 newtons, if you have a Cruiser Pro) and no rider weighing it down, the fact that it was going up an incline shouldn't have made a significant difference. I would have expected its rear tire to have been spinning out if you were hanging onto the bike tight enough.
No, I think that going up a steep incline does make the difference. On level ground it feels too fast.
@@gonagain Thanks. I'll repeat my test on various inclines to see if I can replicate your experience.
Hello I have been saving my money to buy an E bike please share some tips
Hello Jeffrey, I'll do that, but it may be a little while before I get a video done.
The purchase link is not working.
Oh, thanks! I'll fix it. Try it again now, it should take you to their website and if you choose a bike be sure to use the discount code "Gonagain" for a $100 discount.
At 30:54 I see a car come rolling and at 30:56 it's gone. Either Rick is becoming a top notch editor or the road is haunted. I'll wait for the answer 😁
It was a ghost car! It literally takes me days to edit a video, but I enjoy the process.
@@gonagain I knew they existed!!🤣

Hello Carolee. Your Sawyer filter is fine and drying it out doesn't hurt it at all. Just run water through it like you normally would. Once in awhile you need to backflush it with clean water to clean it out.
Thanks so much!!!
Around how many miles did you travel?
Probably about 10 miles, total.
repeat video?
Yeah, I had to take down the first version for some editing and this one is reposted.
Do yourself a big favor and get a mid drive it will climb them hills like a Billy goat!
I run the BBSHD with a 52volt 17.5 AH battery
42 tooth lekkie bling ring
Up front and a 11x52 tooth 12 speed cassette in the rear......Unstoppable!
And yes it's a DIY,
But you can buy bikes close to this like Rambo bikes.
You could add a mid drive to your bike and split the power to both motors and switch from one motor to the other, however you'll probably want a bigger cassette with a 52 tooth first gear for them hills
Can that ebike outrun a bear? That happens all the time in Montana set up a tent and no one's there
I think in the short run a bear would catch me.
wise choice in music but disappointed in when you said good buy you didn’t lay a big sloppy John Wayne lip lock on your woman!
I noticed and wondered about that myself. lol I definitely kissed my other half liberty... (Probably about the only thing I'm liberal about. Ha ha ha...)
Not everyone feels the need or to publicly display
@@elizabethjansen2684 Not everyone feels a need to hide. Many of us are not so inhibited that we fear anyone sees we're human afterall. I'd like to find a woman who doesn't feel over exposed by simple gestures whether they're unobserved or maybe simple public displays of affection. I'm not an exhibitionist and even I draw a line that overt sex acts are not just simple displays of affection.
@@nomadthetraveler5782 indeed but I don't call it hiding or truly inhibited. In many ways it can intensify feelings. Prehaps being more restrained in public would make identifying attacks more easy to identify. Just a thought.
this is kind of funny in a way. we have gone from displays of affection to sex acts to being inhibited. i think Rick is the same as me and loves his wife very much and doesn’t have to prove it to anyone. im sorry if i have offended but the only person i have to prove my love to is my wife.
