- The Mask from 1994 was extremely cutting edge for the time. Blending live action with modern CGI animation it managed to bring a classic cartoon aesthetic to life plus couple with Jim Carey's lead performance it became a monster hit which is still beloved to this day. I like how James thinks he has a choice in whether he has to watch son of the mask.
It was a foregone conclusion.
My only hope is that it becomes his son's favorite movie so he has to watch it on repeat.
It's better though that we know he hasn't seen it. Because once he does the reaction would be glorious.
He and Mason are still under a voodoo curse to podcast forever, so yeah obviously he has to.
I recently found out Jamie Kennedy has his own youtube channel. Its interesting as someone disgruntled about hollywood.

So the dog in the mask was in fact called Max (imdb page here: www.imdb.com/name/nm1247354/) and there was a dog named Max that lived to be 29 (wiki page here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_(dog)) but they were not the same dog, I have no idea where the editor of this video got that from.

@@Adamdidit there’s so much to talk about. The voice cast is quite amazing considering the very low budget. The characters are insane. The plot is mental. The animation is... animated. Would make for the best Caravan of Garbage in my opinion.

That’s a legitimately classic animated kids movie. ESPECIALLY considering it’s not Disney, it’s not Pixar, and it’s maybe dream works because I don’t remember who made that movie lol. But also visually that movie still looks quite good, secondly it’s genuinely fucking hilarious, every scene with the big bad wolf and the cops is just downright hysterical, (also if I recall correctly the main cop is a pig which is just…come on lol) And thirdly the plot twist while it is quite predictable after watching it the first time, it hits you pretty hard when you don’t see it coming.

After hearing what James thinks of this film, I really want him to cover son of the mask now. Because if you, James, thought this film wasn’t good, you are not ready the absolute ATROCITY that is Son of the Mask.

Something I loved about this movie is the plot twist with Stanley's girls... The "good girl" ended up betraying him, while Cameron's character was a femme fatale that turned out to be genuinely good hearted! I must admit it's one of my favorite flicks!👍
Also Peggy dies. Quite brutally. It is shown in a deleted scene. That's why she never shows up again after she betrays Stanley. The death scene was cut. It was similar to The Mask comics wich were much more violent.

I listened to this on the podcast feed first, without the visuals, so I didn’t know what “an unrolled dinger in his pocket” meant in the original Stryne. I legit was wondering if I had forgotten a scene where Jim Carrey whipped out his schlong & unrolled it out on the floor.

I personally find the original comic very interesting but i always wonder how long could it have go on for with this tone and type of imagery before it got stale and boring. Also, it has to be said that the comics got a lot more in tune with the movie afterward.
I believe that a would work better as a mini-series with every episode (or maybe each 2 or 3) focusing on a new host. Some sort of horror comedy.

I never liked it but I haven't seen it since it came out and I was like 6 then. I thought he was too much. Or maybe thats what my mom thought and I went with it
I creeped me out as a kid, I liked it better as adult.
I didn't care for it either, pretty much feel the same way James did, amazing performance and effects, tedious comedy. I love Dumb and Dumber, I still find it hilarious today, it pretty much all holds up, but I don't think I've laughed once during The Mask.

I don’t think I realized how much I loved Milo/Max in this film until James and Mason pointed it out to me. This beagle is not only cute as hell, but he’s actually killing it on screen! I never noticed it until they pointed it out, but he absolutely does do double takes and has moments of hesitation which is just truly incredible lol. I’m kinda amazed they got so much out of him and Jim Carey in their scenes together.

instead of covering Son of the Mask, subvert everyone's expectations with covering all other Mask movies: Mask (1985), M.A.S.K. (1985) (TV Series), Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993), The Man in the Iron Mask (1998), The Mask of Zorro (1998), etc. That'll show them!
Or go the other route and do non-MCU Thor stuff, like the Ragnarok series on Netflix and the Thor episode of the old Bill Bixby 70s Hulk TV Show ;)

Max the dog lived 29 years and was the world's oldest living dog at the time of his death. So not only was he an amazing dog actor, he also lived over twice as long as the normal dog does. That's insane. He was over 200 years old in dog years.
When I saw the nearly 30 year old Dog, I audibly exclaimed 'fucking hell'. Luckily no one else was around.
Also, that dog was already 10 when that film was being made, already a pretty old dog

I can’t remember another movie where the human personified a cartoon so well. This might be the closest thing to a cartoon brought into the real world. It was great.
Definitely want to see a Caravan Of Garbage for “Son Of the Mask”, where James & Mason speak about the plot in sequence, in great detail ad naseum without omission or exception.
I want that so I never have to actually see that movie, if I’m honest.

Even as a kid I thought the framing plot around the vehicle and allure of the cgi was thin. The mask is all about the cgi and Jim Carrey being a ham

I Loooooved this movie! Not having read the Dark Horse comics as a kid, there wasn’t anything to compare this to.

Same I was not having it lol, that movie is highly entertaining even to this day. The effects still hold up wonderfully after 20 plus years and I really love the story even though it's different when comparing the source material (which I freaking love now btw).
Honestly if they were to reboot it I want it closer to the comics cause if they try to imitate the feel of the first movie it'll tank, just like what happened with Son of the Mask it would be another mistake on WB's hands.
*WB owns any films from New Line Cinema after the merger in 2008 and that includes The Mask*

I love the mask! Saw it in theaters as the kid. Everyone cheered when the dog saved the day at the end. Great moment.

This was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and hearing James say he hates it killed my inner child a little bit
My first ever high school marching band show was The Mask, and I didn't see the movie until then. I loved the movie and that was the only enjoyable marching band experience so it'll have a special place in my heart.

We all wanted one of these masks when we first watched this as kids.
Those musical numbers were amazing Mason! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT MASON?!
I was crazy for the mask when it came out. Absolutely loved it. Agree that it’s pretty tough to watch now as an adult. I think they could bring it back and make it more in line with the comic- people love a deadpool and a joker and the mask is basically those two smashed together. The comic followed a cop who was trying to track down a serial killer called ‘big head’. The wrinkle being that ‘big head’ was actually a number of different people (who killed each other and took over the identity one by one). That sounds like a movie I would watch.
Oh my God if James didn't like mask 1 I can't wait for his reaction to son of mask. Genuinely one of the worst films made from the entire 2000s so far

The only reboot that would work for The Mask is an animated series in the same vein as Spawn. Straight to Amazon Prime most likely because they seem to have that niche by the balls.
I think that the mask would work well as a live action police prosidral type show simoler to shows like Psych, the Mentalist, or Lucifer.
They could do it live action if they wanted I mean they did it already

The details are hazy, but I remember being scarred by the cartoons effects in live-action as a child. I was convinced this was a horror movie.

This was one of "my films" as a kid; I had the VHS, had the toys, watched the cartoon, bought the comic of the cartoon of the film of the original comics, rented the SNES game, had a CD-Rom with a (slightly censored I think) motion comics version of the original comic. Even saw Son of the Mask in the cinema out of loyalty (and yes I would like you to cover it).
Watched it once in my early adulthood, thought "hmm, there's really not much going on here", and haven't watched it since. It's really only of interest as a relic of an era where a fairly low budget production like this could come out of nowhere to be one of the biggest hits of the year.
