- Look. We all agree that The Mask was an absolute flawless classic 1994 screwball comedy. Which is why it came as a shock to all that the 2005 sequel Son Of The Mask is also bad. Sorry I mean just bad. This time Jamie Kennedy, plus a baby plus a dog take on the roll of The Mask and let me tell you something , the hilarity is at 11 (out of 1000). They shouldn't have made this and this is a truly awful movie. Thanks for watching our Caravan Of Garbage review!

I mean honestly it looks like the budget went to good use as far as the CG cause it has CG that holds better than almost any film from that time period. I mean movies with bigger budgets like Harry Potter and LotR had better CG but for something with a 89mil budget and that should have been direct to video it's pretty solid. Honestly I could've sworn it was direct to video.

Comedic actors never pull like comedians. They just aren't funny. They do the movements of a funny person and they're usually funny looking but not actually funny. Reminds me of Pauly shore. I like him in movies but sucks at being an actual comedian.

One of my cousins and myself agreed it couldn't be that bad. My other cousin refused and he went with the girls group to watch 'Ever After' with Drew Barrymore. He was the lucky one. By the end of the movie I was the only one awake if only because someone had to wake the others when that shit was done.

Frankly, the biggest shock to me is that the guy in Son of Mask was meant to be a recognizable comedian. I'd seen the movie but he had the face and performance of someone they got on the cheap.

It was the early 2000’s there were so many good comedic actors at the time who could’ve done this role. Owen Wilson, Jack Black hell what if they had it be a woman who puts on the mask during her pregnancy? that would’ve been so much cooler and less problematic than “mask sperm”

Jamie Kennedy has always came across as a massive tool. When he hosted E3 in 2007 he seemed to think he was the coolest guy in the room and insulted everyone with really weak "virgin and nerd" jokes.

There was a documentary called "Heckler", or something like that , where it starts with stand up comedians telling heckler stories but devolves into Jamie Kennedy complaining about people who hated this movie for the entire 2nd half
I used to live in Sydney and I bumped into a famous Scottish football star in a bar in Darling Harbour and recognized him. He had a beer and talked about Canada (where I"m from) and how he loved Sydney specifically because people didn't recognize him so he could just enjoy himself. Real stars love places where they can just relax and not get bothered by people where as many C and D listers are the opposite, they crave attention and do everything they can to get people to recognize them.
I hate the way this movie looks and by all accounts, so did most of the people in charge of movie studios since the director has not made a feature film since.
Well studios would also turn down a director with incredible set design, choreography and cinematography if they lost $100,000,000 dollars at the box office. Gotta be honest I doubt how the movie looked was even in the top 5 of reasons why no one will hire the guy

Yah no, I'm 31 and the only reason I remember Jamie Kennedy was because I heard the title of his prank show all the time as a kid but I definitely couldn't name a single movie he was in even though I've seen a few of them lol. He's super forgettable

Jamie Kennedy once made a documentary called "Heckler" which was about people heckling comedians. The purpose of it was to expose the effects of ignorant hecklers on performers, which is a legitimate problem, I myself hate hecklers. However in my opinion all it did was paint Kennedy and some other comedians as pathetically insecure, using the platform of a Netflix documentary to rage at anonymous drunk losers from past shows and people who review their movies unfavorably. I don't try to hate on Jamie Kennedy, I do think he has some comedic talent, but that dude comes off as deluded.
I saw it and got the same thing from it. He came across as such a self absorbed prick I never watched anything with him again. Also didnt he try to steal some dudes girlfriend in it? It was backstage, I think she was drunk and he convinced her to ditch her boyfriend and leave with him or some shit.

Everything about Kennedy’s Mask is awful. The whole point of the movie version of The Mask (not the comic one because that’s a completely different beast) is that it brings your inner most desires and who you want to be to the forefront and amplifies it. Stanley was a cartoon lover who wanted to be confident enough to get the ladies and get back at the society that beat him down so he became a love obsessed wild man who cartoonishly messed with the people who try to screw him over, Dorian was a lower tier mob boss looking to become the most powerful man in the city so he became a monster who’s able to murder his way up to the top of the food chain. The creators of this movie just wanted to replicate Stanley’s Mask personality despite it making zero sense for Tim’s character. It would’ve made so much more sense if when Tim put on the Mask he became a Tex Avery style cartoonist who impresses his boss at the party by cranking out a million top tier cartoons in seconds

I’ll always remember the first time I watched this movie as a child. My stomach started to hurt mid way through the film and at the moment when Alan Cumming’s character became a shitty CGI bee I vomited down my shirt and remained in my seat for a few minutes until my mum came in and went crazy at me. To this day I maintain it was caused by the film and that wearing that gross wet T-shirt is still better than watching this bullshit film.

I always appreciated how there was never any romantic tension between Monk and his assistant. That show was so smartly and sensitively written for its time. Thank God they didn't get Michael Richards and make it a comedy on CBS, which almost happened.

This is the only movie I've ever fallen asleep during. As a result, I often cite it as the worst movie I've ever seen.
I've only ever fallen asleep at the cinema during the flashy, loud, and climactic battle of Mad Max: Fury Road. I'm still not sure how I managed that. I think I was just VERY sleepy.

I love what Gunn’s done with GOTG but when he’s not being controlled by Disney he does very fucked up, disturbing and dark movies I feel like he’d capture the spirit of the comics but that’s my problem I prefer to Carrey style Mask to the sadistic violent sociopath comic mask
The stuff about Jamie Kennedy is absolutely true. He was a giant man child and VERY full of himself in the early 2000's. I knew people working on his show The Jamie Kennedy Experiment, when I lived in LA, and he would get all the fucking crew to play (and bet him, while he's making A LOT more money) card games and poker variations and shit he just flat-out made up as soon as he started losing.
It was this look at me thing. I don't think he cared about the money, but rather, he would make up stupid fucking games, get the crew to play them because he needed to be center of attention for rules and shit. And if someone else won, it took attention off of him. He was that kid in school that NEVER learned negative and positive attention, boundaries or impulse control.
And it's why he doesn't have friends in Hollywood and burned all his bridges. And why he started hanging out with the crews, because big fish in little ponds and it was easy to be the center of attention.
We did get the Jamie Kennedy Experiment or JKX in Aus.
It was on very late at night on channel 9 in Brisbane, after "Penn & Teller's Bullshit".

I *worked* in a VHS rental store at the time this came out and always thought this movie came straight to VHS. Seeing that it had an $84 million budget to the first movie’s $18 million is staggering. (Also, I’ve still never seen it and I was able to watch movies for free when I worked there).
I don’t know much about cinematography or lighting, but what I do know is that as a kid and even now in my mid 20s, this movies use of colors and angles is genuinely nauseating

One of his actor friends was thinking about trying out but the producers required an audition video and Jim Carry gold him basically, We're a-list actors. We don't do audition videos. So the other guy didn't evert try for the role. But Jim Carrey made an audition video and eventually was cast as the lead

1. London does care about celebrities. I was walking by a restaurant, and there was a crowd of at least 25 people outside their window. I asked what was going on. This young woman told me that Posh and Beckham were eating there.
2. Will you do the short-lived Mask animated series, and/or the movie Mask staring Cher? Granted the latter has noting in common with The Mask.
you've unlocked a traumatic memory. I remember watching this sequel when i was really young and something felt extremely off, even 12 year old me could tell you that jamie kennedy was a fuggin scrub.

Jamie Kennedy has actually been talking about this on his UA-cam channel and how everything worked out and sort of fell apart
He only started doing it because some of the people from the Mr Sunday Movies' facebook group started a campaign to swamp his requests with it until he caved in. Apparently he was still so resentful of the experience that he said he never wanted to talk about it, but he's also a massive asshole so people thought it would be fun to make him relive the experience XD

We also can't buy alcohol from a store after 10:00pm except for one glorious summer a decade ago when that was moved up to 11:00 and even then I think it was only the beer store. Don't complain about closing times to people in Ontario!

I cannot believe that anyone thought the hideous design for Kennedy's Mask face was okay. It should be WEIRD, but not unwatchable.

I legit do love it when you do movies I've never bothered to watch. Every joke is a surprise that way.
Watch Jamie Kennedy’s video where he talks with the director of this film on the directors cut that was never shown because the studio wouldn’t allow it and a huge reason this movie failed is due to the studio meddling heavily in it. It gives a great perspective on the original vision and care that originally went into this movie.
I unironically love every video these guys do on movies, games, and comic books I’ve never had any intention to read because it’s probably shit but the video on the shit that gets produced is infinitely better than what it’s about.
Did you know? For this movie they were thinking of having 2 masks, one for Jamie Kennedy and one for the dog. To differentiate the 2 masks, one of them was going to be Blue, and would be found when Jamie has to fish it out of the trash after accidentally dropping his GBA in there. This lead to the working title of this movie being Blue Harvest, ehich coincidentally is also the working title for the original Star Wars
I remember watching the son of the mask and it gave me such a headache
The only good moment in this film is the scene where the baby finally stops being a jerk and comforts his father who has just been sacked and is crying on the floor while somewhere over the rainbow plays in the background. It's such a nice quiet and dare I say touching moment in the middle of the sugar-high acid-fueled dross that is this movie. It's almost like the baby is apologising for all other babies that unknowingly upset the balance of their parents lives. Babies suck, it's all the baby's fault! Now if you'll excuse me I gotta go stop my kids fighting in the other room.

We DID get Jamie Kennedy Experiment here! (Aus). It was on channel 9 on Wednesday 7.30pm for two weeks, and must have rated poorly because they moved it to 11.30pm for the rest of season 1.

I've never been a Jamie Kennedy fan. He's as boring as watching paint dry and somehow made celebrity status by just being around in the early 2000s

This movie and Space Jam showed me that cartoon slapstick is only funny when it happens to cartoon characters.
When it happens to humans, it's horrifying.
This and 'The Cat In the Hat' are uncompromising masterpieces of their vision. They're also total dogsit. They're also, finally, the first two films I ever saw in cinemas. How I'm a filmmaker now I'll never know.
To this day, my dad is convinced. Absolutely convinced that Larry David is Jamie Kennedy in age make up. He won’t hear you say he isn’t.
