Thank you so much. I heard about facing for the first time yesterday. You made it look so easy. I have a wall hanging with different border colors. This eliminates the need to try and match the binding. Thanks again..
I LOVE the idea of doing the facing. It give the quilt a different look, somehow more elegant. Going to try that on one of my unfinished quilts. It's probably unfinished because of the binding!! Great job. Thanks so much!
I would like to see how you stitch the facing. ❤️ the idea! I was thinking about those who like the look of binding on the front of the quilt, just switch the whole process so that the facing ends up on the front of the quilt.
Thanks!! I have a part 2 video that shows what the facing looks like stitched down by machine and by hand. As for sewing it down to the back and wrapping to the front, I have not done that, but you can certainly give it a try! Post a pic and let us see it!
One suggestion for you. Cut the strips on the lengthwise grain. Width of fabric strips have a lot of stretch in them. If you really want the edge of the quilt to be stable, lengthwise strips will do a much better job.
thank you, hope your voice is better. and your instructions were just great. I have a very large quilt- so can't wait to try it. By the way, would you sew down the hanging piece in the top part OR sew that in by hand later?
Thank you for your question. This facing technique takes up no more space than a binding would on the back of your quilt. So adding a hanging sleeve using your personal favorite technique should be the same. If you are asking for a hanging sleeve demonstration video.... I could certainly do that! Hope this helped you.
Slick idea, but I kind of like the look of the binding on the front. It makes a little frame of color around the quilt. I am not sure I would want to eliminate that.

Thanks for simplifying the technique! Watched your video and completed my wall hanging today. It does look pretty!

I normally add/stitch my sleeve down by hand, but either way would work.
Great video but how would you add a hanging sleeve

This is certainly not a replacement for binding... it is just another option.
Thanks a lot👍❤️
Is there a way to do this facing method by doing all sewing on the machine please?
If you sewed this down by machine, you would see the stitches on the front of the quilt. I believe hand tacking is the only way to go for this step.
Ms. Sue, did you see my part 2 video on machine stitching the facing down?! Go check it out! And thanks for the idea.
How wide is it?
You cut your strips at 2" and sew on using a 1/4" in seam.
