Go get you a redcat and hit the trail. You'll be pissed and wondering why in minutes and ain't gonna be no custom redcats!!!!!!!! They are junk and this dude is fake a.f
I think it would be cool to do a truck shootout. Start with stock trucks, then put the same wheels and tires on all of them. And any mods done to 1, do to all of them. And keep a tally of how each performs. That would be a pricier series though
I've had the Evo Pro for several months now, and just got the Redcat yesterday.... all those that are saying "just get both"...YUP! That's the answer... Can't go wrong with either and Matt summed up the differences perfectly. Really wish there was more aftermarket for all the CR18P variants, because there are a bunch of really good ones out there...but what little support there is, is kinda pricey....that said, it's great the Redcat came out will all the hop-ups right away, because outside of Redcat, there's nothing for the Ascent 18 yet.... Hoping to see that develop over time. And all you Makers out there....let's support this platform and get those Ascent 18 STLs posted up on Thingiverse!!!
Best thing about the CR18P Evo Pro & FX118 models is they do not really needs any modifications compared to others vehicles in there class to perform excellent. Anyone that owns one of these rigs already knows this.
Ascent 18 first must do mod: get a Deadhead sticker on it! LOL! I ordered inner/outer portal covers, diff covers, and steering links in heavy brass all from Injora. I'm saving the free mods for the fine tuning, as it makes no sense to make tiny changes just to then slam brass on it. So big steps towards the goal, then the baby steps.
The Redcat gives me the same feeling that the scx24's gave me 4 years ago, a great entry price and solid mechanical foundation that can be made better by playing with free mods and slowly investing to build up a super capable crawler that is uniquely yours. The CR-18 and Furitek platforms are very capable and you get a lot out of the box, but that honestly makes me feel like you are buying a mostly finished product, and finished with parts that as you said you may not necessarily have chosen. I would rather save the money up front and spend the difference making the Redcat even better in the exact ways that I want.
I literally just got both of these in the mail yesterday 😂. With my VERY limited running I can say that both trucks are a lot of fun and very capable out of the box but the Evo is definitely a better performer. Excited to get some upgrades on the Redcat to see what its really capable of!
RedCat for the win IMO. I was having a hard time figuring out why i skip every video on the EVO, and now i think i know why... I don't like already upgraded RTR, and felt this way about the Furitek too. I want a quality base to work from, with upgrades, and a base that is suited for modding... the RedCat seems to have that. Also, when i make another trail-truck then i want a 2 speed, one speed for crawling, and one speed for the trail. All of the 2 speeds that I've seen have not had the best ratios for that though, and I've found that i usually end up going for the ideal single speed transmission for crawling. Thank you for the video, always looking for that 2fmrc icon to pop up!
That’s a wild way to think, my evo pro is a mashup with fury wagon electronics, evo frame, and furitek venom. The evo pro is a fantastic starting point but the main issue is how large the big block motor is. I call my truck the Fury Wagon Pro, the evo pro is by far one of the best frames to work with. I kept the 2 speed tranny from the evo pro, I have unreal slow crawl and when I put it in high gear I can do probably 10+ mph doing donuts. It’s the perfect truck, sorry you haven’t tinkered with them enough to know.
@@PittsburghShenanigans i see, you're probably correct. I should try one out sometime. Always fun making Franken-crawlers! The last 2 speed i saw was definitely not ideal. The slow was too slow. Gearing down all the way actually kindof sucks IMO. There's no substitute for power. I had one of these big can motors on my scx24 3 or 4yrs ago... stock everything, but with the big motor (Dynamite 280 i think). It had awesome slow crawl and incredible punch. Not good sidehill. Burned my stock esc up of course. But it was fun! So the Evo has a great base to build from? I'll put that down for my next build. Thank you.
Oh yeah i’m always here to the end, got out yesterday to test my FCX 10 I love it it performed great all the functions work great the dig disengage is when you disengage it, my axial early bronco, You have to kind of take a little reverse to disengage. Next to my Vanquish hi do believe my favorite crawler 👍👍 well as always appreciate you sharing, I’ll watch for the next one until then peace and chicken grease 😁😁👋👋😎
Really nice side by side comparo! Out of the box, both of these perform well. I don’t go crazy on mods but I do do Some brass. Everything from Redcat seems to be friendlier to my wallet, which is the deciding factor for me in the end. RBI’s price is just a tad more than I want to pay. Maybe I’ll catch one on sale, but for now I’ll just enjoy my Redcat! Again great job on this!👊🏼😎👍🏻
Great vid bro! I'm gonna go with the Redcat. The money you save can go towards some upgrades to make it heavier and more capable. I really like that the Redcat has full bearings out of the box too.
All the way to the end buddy, love the info you share. In the process of building the crap out of my Redcat . Grateful for the RC world I’ve gotten so much info and it’s helped me to build something cool for my first mini crawler 🫡😎
Nice view & comparison I’m surprised how well the Redcat did if it’s stock I’m definitely getting one I have a Evo Pro brushless that has a bunch of upgrades metal axles Reefs brushless servo full bearings aluminum high clearance links & front steering links & Meus 1.3 wheels n tires. I have my driveshaft switched in the rear & have front brass outer portal covers & aluminum inner. It has some good weight to it now & goes up 1:10 scale lines it’s a serious little Crawler. I have the 1:10 Ascent so for that price I’ll definitely take one. 👍
The drivetrain slop in the Evo Pro is driving me insane in practical usage - makes controlled starts and descents very difficult. Anybody have a solution for this?
Appreciate the video! Both rigs will bind to the same transmitter, they share the same protocol. CR18P platform has OD gears available from Furitek, HobbyPlus, and Power Hobby. Redcat having hobby shop support is definitely a big plus.
Yeah but for some reason the drag brake don’t work on the Redcat when you use other controllers. It just free rolls too easily with any of the other transmitters I’ve tried.
Really liking the look of the Redcat, hoping it becomes available in the UK - looks to be a bit of hassle ordering it from Redcat directly right now, no shipping to the UK without spending more. The narrow axles, turning circle and lack of drive slop appeal massively to me. It would make a nice contrast to the FCX24 and CR18P I already have, even though I'd prefer a nice compact transmitter. Big appeal on the small scale stuf is chucking it in a bag and being portable, having a full size transmitter is a little annoying.
I really wonder why there are so few aftermarket parts and even hard to get spare parts for the Evo Pro/CR18 platform. Imo thats much better and more interesting than the Traxxas, FMS and Redcat Crawlers. Injora introduced TONS of parts for the Ascent 18 within a few weeks. But left out the CR18 completely.
Just figured out fyi that the Redcats esc/transmitter will bind to the fms/furitek/hobby plus transmitter. Makes sense since the Gen2 SCX electronics that came with the same controller as the redcat also would bind with those transmitters.
Yeah I tried it but for some reason all of the other transmitters I’ve been able to bind to it there’s no drag brake on the Redcat with them. It’s odd lol
@@2fmrc damn your right I only drove it around the living room, put it on a little incline and it rolled right back down. Though I was onto something 😂
