    Another question, Dennis. I just maintained my first baitcaster (low profile) and I can't figure out how the tension knob puts side pressure on the spool. As far as I can see, there's nothing under the knob but what looks like a ball bearing and looking from inside with the spool removed, I can't see that turning the knob does anything.

      Well, I got ahold of someone at the parts place for this brand reel and they explained that the tensioner puts pressure on the end of the spool shaft -- which projects through the hole in the bearing, which makes perfect sense.

      That is exactly what happens. - Glad they got back to you - Dennis

    Hi!
    Great toturial of the service on this real. I own the same real but in the 5.8 gear ratio. Bought the reel in 2018 and haven't done a service on it yet. My main question though is that i'v noticed that the reel handle is "gaping" a bit, like when you pull the handle away from the real (assembled ofcourse) its gaping. Is this something that could be fixed or is it a issue that happens when the reel is getting worn out? Hopefully you know what i'm talking about. I'm from Sweden so my English ain't that good. Overall great toturial keep up the good work! Best regards Jerry

      It may be that the drags are worn and need to be replaced. That would be the first item that I would check. Thanks for asking - Dennis

      alright! thanks for the reply. If i would try to check this myself what specific thing should i look for? Again, thanks for the reply!@@2ndChanceTackle

    You wouldn't think you would need a pinion gear on a baitcaster, because unlike a spinning reel, the crank shaft and the spool shaft (and also the level wind shaft) are parallel instead of at right angles. The level wind is turned with a simple gear arrangement and I would think the spool shaft could be turned with a similar arrangement.

      I think part of the gear use is to allow for the free spool feature

    Putting that handle back on would have thrown me for a loop !

      Shimano does that on several of their reels. It is a challenge - Thanks Bobby - Dennis

    Isn't there a detent of sorts for each of the six brakes? By pushing the brakes in, doesn't that modify the "settings" that may have been preferred by the reel's owner? I'm thinking that you don't need to push them inwards in order to mount the side plate, but I could certainly be wrong...

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  Рік тому +1

      Yes - the brakes in is the least braking and with them all out it is the most. You can modify these to adjust to your preference. I always put these in when servicing a reel because some brakes are free floating, like those on an Ambassadeur and can get trapped in the ring. I also leave them in because servicing the reel usually frees it up and the brake setting prior to the service are likely to different than what is needed. Thanks fro the thoughts and the note - Dennis

    the power knob is almost as big as the reel itself

    My spool is stuck. I cannot pull it out. I can pull it out about 3/8" & seems to hit something & cannot pull out any further. Any suggestions?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  8 місяців тому

      It may be stuck tot he side case bearing. Try removing the adjuster cap and spraying the assembly with a penetrating oil to possible loosen the part and allow you to remove the spool

    • @la90292
      @la90292 8 місяців тому

      No, it's not stuck to the Cadt Control Cap.
