Have you tried cutting leather with E40? I saw your previous leather video and was wondering if the e40 is better at cutting leather

Do you think there would be any disadvantage to triming back the module shroud a few mm to prevent snagging the work piece?

Hello, can you tell me if the E40 can cut 1.5mm single layer cardboard?..not the corrugated type....just one layer kinda like a cereal box cardboard but a little thicker..will it cut it perfect and perfect edges with decent speed?

Neje claims the A40640 II has a spot size of 0.04 x 0.06mm and 0.03x0.04mm for the E40. Are they really that different in terms of kerf size when cutting 3mm plywood? Couldn't the focal length be adjusted on the A40640 to get essentially the same cut kerf as the E40 on wood thickness less than 5mm? And when the tiny spot size is set for the A40640 (short focus), what is the focal point length from the bottom edge of the laser module? According to Neje, the focal point on the E40 is 3 to 5mm from the laser module bottom edge.

Hello and thanks for the video.
I use the E40 for cutting plywood up to 4mm & acrylic up to 3mm; Otherwise, I cut balsa wood in different thicknesses for model building.
I had a choice between the E40 and the A40640II, but the E40 is more effective for my purposes.
I love the fixed focus because I only had the A40630 module before and had to change the focus after engraving some objects for the cutting work. I still enjoy using the A40630 for engraving work on anodized aluminum when the E40 is busy.
I avoided the difficulties with the optimal focus (5mm for me for 1.5mm engraving depth) with the working height of the laser, because I have a steel honeycomb and work with thin neodymium magnets.
A big advantage is of course the engraving of stainless steel without this expensive ceramic...
I use a 37psi compressor as an Airassist and have no problems with parts that are blown away and there are sometimes very small parts in the various model building projects.
Good that you also addressed the point with 100% usage.
I find it important to clean the lens regularly, I didn't have this need to the same extent with the A40630.
    Best regards
    Hermann

When you mentioned the power supply it made me curious. 12v vs 24v....I have the E80 and the power supply sent by NEJE broke within 48hrs. I have the old power supply for my A40640 on my 2s. Will it work while I get another ordered in (can't get NEJE to respond)?

Hi, @CrisAnderson27; thank you for your comment.
The A40640 had a 12V power supply, therefore no it won't work.
You need a brick rated for 24V 5A at least.
      I hope it helps

What is the "looks like" metal ABS you are using ? For me, ABS is plastic. And where i can shop it ? Thanks

Hi, skrew; thank you for your comment.
It is a coated ABS sheet and comes in many different colours. Usually, they do info or warning plates with it.
Below is the link to the product on Aliexpress

Hi, Doug King; thank you for your comment.
I use a Vevor Silent Oil Free Compressor
      s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DFyh6jt
      s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DBxAg87
If you use a compressor, you will need a Water Trap
      s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_Ddo089z
      s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DEMFjE3
An air pump would do the job, but not as clean as a compressor.
The only note is the higher the pressure, the higher the likelihood to get condense in the line; therefore, a water trap is a must. If you want to go professional that a refrigerant air water remover will be best suited.

hello. What focal height do you use? or what for you is the best height to make cuts?

    • @MiddleRoomWorkshop
      @MiddleRoomWorkshop  Рік тому

Hi, Marcelo Laurini; thank you for your comment.
      Se sei Italiano scorri giù.
In my ramp test, I found the optimal Height to be between 2.5 and 3mm for thicknesses up to 4mm.
I suggest you use 3mm for both engravings and cuttings up to 3mm thick sheets and lower to 2.5mm for thinker sheets.
The limited clearance makes the laser prone to catch on the sheet or clamping devices.
      Ciao
