- In one of the dialogues on the ship Merrin talks about her past and how she and her girlfriend were supposed to be together in the future before she died. In addition to this, I have included several dialogues and cutscenes were Merring talks about her past and family and how she lost them. After recording all the scenes, I edited the raw footage in a synthetic way showing the different interactions with this character. Enjoy!

EDIT: I mean't to say she had a relationship with a girl once who died. Years later she meets Cal who is a guy and falls in love with him. It happens in real life why not in Star Wars?

The problem is the the story is a bit brief for this. It is not on the level like of say Bioware game characters.
I found it a really nice detail when she was describing Grievous and confusing him for a Jedi because of the colors of his lightsabers.

Merrin probably didn't even really know much about the Sith or Jedi anyways, which didn't help matters.
I loved that detail too.
Most people didn’t understand the difference between Jedi and Sith. Basically if you had a lightsaber you were a Jedi. Hence her confusion.

An ominous witch who had to witness her entire family struck down in front of her at a young, impressionable age and then forced to live a life of loneliness.
I think you can really see her personality gradually perk up over the story, ever so subtlely.

There was already a Jedi nightsister that turned into a "sith" assassin. Ventress, dookus apprentice before sidious told him to kill her since she was becoming too powerful and there could only be two sith. She survived though for a short time.

Thats probably the case, since Rebels takes place I think 4 years before Episode IV and this game is 5 years after Revenge of the Sith....
@@marianxendor3974 True, although he was on Dathomir during the events of Solo, which takes place 4 years after Jedi: Fallen Order, but I'm sure there will be more canon content which will explain his absence during the game. I just don't believe he wouldn't have sensed Malicos, another dark side force user, on the same planet and not do anything about it, since we know that Maul is doing the opposite of Kenobi and Yoda and actually plotting to bring down Vader and Palpatine. With someone like Taron Malicos to manipulate, he wouldn't need Dryden Vos or the rest of Crimson Dawn to operate in the Underworld against the Empire or the Hutts

This game had so much love for its fans. Referencing the Clones era, references to other characters. But also, you can love your best friend in a non-romantic way. Just like Cal loved his master since he saw him as a father figure, Merrin saw her friend as a real sister, being close to her.
Maybe it's just me, but referring to the clone wars seems logical as it was the last major event in the galaxy. This is set between the clone wars and the rebellion. Makes sense most character backstory stems from the fallout of the clone wars.

It's so nice we can remember this arc. It's a fun time.
Everyone's acting is top notch. I'm glad these scenes capture all the small expressions. I love Merrin's tiny grimace as she makes up her mind (4:06). And Cal's "you will?" makes me laugh.

I think if this were an important plot detail they would've put it in a cutscene rather than an offhand comment. Also "together" doesn't necessarily mean romantically involved. As children, that probably just means staying best friends.
Most of the nightsisters didnt even see brothers, they lived separated.
"I thought that when we were older, we would be together." This is pretty clearly meant to imply a romantic relationship; whether or not she's also interested in Cal is a different issue. I think they didn't put it in a cutscene to avoid the inevitable mob of internet trolls screaming about how this is "woke garbage" after one line of dialogue.

Roughly, "Andy and I grew up next door to each other and used to sneak off and play hide-and-seek in the woods all the time. We were so close. I thought when we were older we would be together."
I get that we'll never agree on this one, but from my perspective, if the author did intend to convey a platonic relationship, there was no need to use the future tense without a conditional, such as "I thought we'd together forever". In the best friends sense, they already were together. The "when we were older part" is what makes it clearly romantic to me.

"Being together" as in 'dating' is an offhand evolved term and not something from original English databases (that I am pretty sure this game uses.)
It's star wars, not some dating game or high-school story game. If 'being together' was used in a game like that, that would explicitly mean dating, but in star wars universe, it has a more powerful meaning than just that.
Well said. I thought so, too. I don't have anything against LGBT, but I think it's impossible for an eleven-years-old Merrin to think romantically about her best friend. It's Star Wars, afterall, and I never see younger people fell in love with another in the franchise until they were at least sixteen or nineteen (like Ezra to Sabine).

I think Merrin is actually bisexual. She discussed a girlfriend she had prior to General Grievous’s slaughter. But throughout the story, it is evident she likes Cal. They definitely have chemistry.
She could just be referring it to as friends simply, remember she was a very young girl at that time so she may not know so much about the love interest and sexuality, etc. Then again, you could be right.

People need to stop arguing about this. The answer is that it's implied. It's not confirmed, but there is an okay chance that her meaning was what people speculate it to be. The only way to know for sure is to ask a dev. So get on it. They'll probably say either "Yes, but she also likes Cal" or "It's whatever you want to think".

The way they wrote her and their interactions together, I genuinely think it will be the wrong move not to put them together, from a story telling perspective. Explore the whole "Jedi can't have attachments." Thing in the sequel. Also, Bi people exist, and shes only known women, so it's not like its impossible for her and cal to become a thing. Idk, it'll seem weird if they dont get together.
It should also be noted that Dathomir was a Matriarchy as shown in the Clone Wars series with the genders being placed in separate camps

She was also very young when the Nightsisters were killed. Her dialogue doesn’t have to mean anything other than a close friendship. Just like it’s possible that she isn’t attracted to Cal either. But people can think whatever they want.
Honestly there is no groundbreaking information. Literaly the reason she came with Cal, is that because both of them talked about a "path forward", the whole point of the game is about not dwelling on the past.
+She acts with a sympathy and affection towards Cal, their similar life experiences might be a bond that makes them even closer to each other than an innocent childhood crush/friendship.

Zabraks are Night Brothers who are more like slave labor to Night Sisters.
Of her clan yes. While it may be legends material, it is still safe to assume that that was not the only nightsister clan on Dathomir.
In canon maybe she is the last. I dont read much into canon, but in legends there are a handful that survived
@@AlexiosLair I think this is what fans don't get. Merrin wasn't exactly raised to see the Zabrak males as her equals and treated them as canon fodder. The Zabrak males had been conditioned for centuries to respect and worship the Nightsisters, so it's unlikely that they would force her to do anything.
@@lsufan6981 in cannon she's the last. In legends there were many survivors and the Empire mostly left dathomir alone. Entire clans would become rancor riding mercenaries.
So I can't be the only one hoping for a sequel where I can be Merrin. I like her character and I think she would make for an incredibly interesting character to play as combining her Darkside Magic with Lightsaber combat would be so fun.

I don't think it's implying Merrin has a girlfriend. She may have just meant that she and this other Nightsister were very close frineds. It's not unheard of for Nightsister's to be very close together, both in Legends and Canon material.

I find that from what we've seen, it is quite a leap of faith to immediately assume any romantic connection between the two, as the brief quote is very vague and indirect. Although it would be an interesting concept to explore further, saying that Merrin had a girlfriend at this point may be reading between the lines a lot. While saying that you were "so close "to someone and thought you would "be together" may imply romance, it is to be noted that they were just children and it could just mean stay together and not be separated as well. I guess in the end it's just left open for interpretation and doesn't really affect the plot other than being an off-hand comment to illustrate losing someone you deeply care about.

Not how Nightsister culture worked. All of the females and males referred to themselves as "sisters" and "brothers." It made it really hard to figure out who was actually related in The Clone Wars when they did this arc.
