This...THIS is still my favourite RCR video. After all these years, it makes me laugh as much as it did back then. The humor is just so random and eccentric compared to all the other reviews and I love it! :D
I've come to the realization that I binge watch RCR constantly, year round. doesn't matter if I've seen the video a dozen times already, probably gonna watch it again.
just found this channel because of this. i got my 1999 GS500E and it's been good to me. it's not stupid fast but streets in here are 120kph MAX and there's not even a lot of those so it goes WAY faster than i'm legally able to drive. accelerates nicely enough to those speeds too. i think i'm going to keep it as my daily driver. also: finland mentioned!
Hey. I'm planning on buying a GS500e myself and, since you posted this 3 months ago, wanted to ask if you recommend this bike and what it's like to ride around on
It really is, in one word, fun. Its not too powerful, but it has the power band to get up there if need to be. Its actually comfortable, and its rather nice to ride on. I had an issue with the exhaust, (It was aftermarket) So i had to replace that with the stock it came with. I would recommend if you want it, stick with stock, otherwise if you get the wrong muffler, it sounds like a tin can. Mine did for about a month. Its defiantly a beginners bike, but for the larger people.
I have a 1 mile stretch right in front of my house, and sometimes i just let the throttle open up all the way, and zoom down it 95 plus with no problem. The power band is a little smooth, but you can feel it kick in around 6k. Defiantly fun to ride though on the open stretch.
Literally went out and bought a 2000 GS500e after watching this video. Needed something cheap, simple and reliable to get around the city on. It's not the fastest bike I've owned, it's not the prettiest bike I've owned, and it's not the cheapest bike I've owned. But for my situation, I couldn't have asked for a better motorcycle. Thank you Mr. Regular, I wouldn't have ended up on one if not for you!
I bought a GS750 when I was 18. Never serviced it. Never changed the oil. Never did shit except fill the tank, and after a few years I changed the tyres. And it never complained, just kept on running.
My first bike was a 2008 GS500F. I remember on the ride home from the dealership realising why people buy Hyabusas. That said when it got written off after I got hit from behind (was actually my fault) I went out and bought a 2011 model as soon as my arm was less broken. Why? Because great on fuel, easy as pie to ride, great riding position (I'm 6ft), enough power, great weather protection (F is faired) and way better than any car I've driven on a twisty road. I can ride anything now but I'd still be tempted (wrote off the second one on greasy tram tracks and bought a car)
Your reviews crack me up, I don't know what it is, but your guttural blunt voice makes it work. I guess if you were going to have a good motorcycle that can get you from point A to point D without needing to stop at points B and C, this is the one.
I think it's this exact video where Mr. R transitioned to his modern style. The Mazda6 video talked specs a little bit, but this one actually analyzed the specs *and* the performance, while also explaining its place within vehicle culture as a whole. This is the end of an era, but also a significant beginning. (Turns on electric sander)
I had a 2006 gs500f, took it everywhere, went from the southern most point of Australia to as far as the roads went, went on a lot of dirt roads and she handled everything. I had a screamin demon exhaust on it and it did sound awesome.
My first bike was an '01 GS500, I kinda miss it, the stock exhaust does have a surprisingly nice sound. Mine did NOT like to start in cold weather though. And by "cold weather" I mean 70F or less. I did love it though, there's something magical about that first bike. Riding that GS500 made me feel like I was perpetually in one of those "you meet the nicest people on a honda" commercials where everything is right and innocent and clean with the world.
A best seller in Germany ....Easy to work on top speed 170kms per hour, and out handles many far more expensive bikes on the bends due to the super strong frame .... They are a perfect commuter bike, and the government in Australia has bought thousands of them....
TBH I've been riding a 2002 for like 2.5 years now, my 2nd bike after a 250, it's VERY reliable (clocked 106K KM on the original engine so far, about 40K were done by me). For the real world? It's a GREAT bike, maybe not the fastest but it'll cruise at 120 KPH all day long, plus it's hella fun in the corners once you upgrade the suspension.
Wow the memories!!!! I had the faired version of this as my first bike. I cant believe this video is 7 years old. I remember when it came out. This video got me into bikes, or at least moved me along in my interest
I love my 450. you're totally right about the power band. those little parallel twins aren't much of anything until you get north of 7k or so rpm. Easier to work on than a lemon squeezer, and less harsh on the urethra too.
I thought it was funny you referred to it as been as fast as a ninja 250, me and my brother recently got our licences and he got the ninja and I scored the gs500, yet when we "raced" I could never seem to shake him, I mean I might have been a bit faster but it wasnt obvious.
Oh man, the GS 500 has a huge following. In fact, with the entrance of Royal Enfield, 500cc motorbikes are coming back into fashion. Cheap simple air-cooled bikes.
I have got my 92 model GS 500 E since early this year and as my first larger bike (had a n Aprilia rs 125 before) I really like it. The seating position is pretty comfortable and for an over 20 year old bike it still looks awesome IMO. Cheap to run, fast enough (did 180 km/h / 112 mp/h) with it and easy to maintain, oh and I got it for a really good price :)
I had watched a few RCRs as they would pop up on my suggested playlist, stuff like the Fox body Mustang, some police interceptors, later videos. I liked them, so I subbed the channel and started watching from the beginning yesterday. Today, I feel like I need a hot shower, a cold beer, and some therapy. I feel damaged. I have to watch more.
I had one, and it was fast. I never understood when people called them slow. It would walk away from other bikes and they would be confused. But then one day I rode a diffrent one. And went "oh". I tore down the engine on mine and it was built as it could possibly be
thank you regular cars I can always take away some thing useful from you vids and that always with a doubt changes the course of my life forever and 100% of the time is for the better like for now on I will never again waist my time life or money on TP
I love these reviews. I honestly would pay a subscription fee to keep watching. The Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hyde aspect is awesome. please keep reviewing and please keep posting. And if you ever go to a per-per-view-vlog, you have at least one subscriber.
I delivered an Amazon package to a house the other day and the motorcycle in the garage had a two brother's exhaust. All I could think of was this review
Cant really binge watch it...its like reading a book of puns...after a while, they stop being funny. But, i like this channel. A lot. Rare to hear someone go off on comedic rants like i often will, like its hilarious AND most cannot contend with the homework and knowledge necessary to make said jokes. Its passion. If you have it, you never fail to recognize it.
What the HELL did I just watch??? This GS500 was my first bike ever that I owned in 2005/6. But it was a junker 1990 that made for a perfect 1st bike. I kinda miss it, but then I remember that I just bought a new Yamaha FZ-07. Have you done a review on that yet?

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh, just the good eff'n ones!
Yes. Specifically, season 1, because that’s back when RCR was more of an acid trip than a car review.

Because of this video, I got a GS500e. Bought it for 1800 bucks. Thanks!

CrispyTurtl3 Thanks for the reply, the bike sounds perfect for me!
CrispyTurtl3 how do you find it on the open road ?
I have a 1 mile stretch right in front of my house, and sometimes i just let the throttle open up all the way, and zoom down it 95 plus with no problem. The power band is a little smooth, but you can feel it kick in around 6k. Defiantly fun to ride though on the open stretch.

Three years later and this is still the best review ever made
I think I've just stumbled across the best video on the internet.
This is the best channel on UA-cam.
It's 2019, and he's gotten so different since these early videos, yet, it hasn't changed at all! Love these ahhhh
I never watched this guys videos before. I was never so enlightened and confused at the same time.
I want Moar videos like this on moar motorcycles and cars and lawnmowers.
This was what inspired it...
Finally found it! Had to find this comment
I feel like this is your best paced video. The switches between sane and insane are perfect and you spend just enough time on each.
OPEN HOUSE!
I've watched like 20 of these reviews in a row. The best part is they're ridiculously funny and spot on at the same time
I bought a GS750 when I was 18. Never serviced it. Never changed the oil. Never did shit except fill the tank, and after a few years I changed the tyres. And it never complained, just kept on running.

I had a 1980 GS450l, you know. Also a '92 commercial for this bike said "It hustles and still leaves cash in your pocket."

I had the 89.. funny enough it came with clip ons but as far as I know only for 89...hmm. great bike.
Having a bike run without a computer isn't exactly a bad thing.
Fuck that, Fuel injection anyday, I'm sick of carbs already.

Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and saviour ALLMIGHTYFIBRE transition intro? You see, that shit, that shit right there? That's art folks.
This review is now so old it's become an ATTIC MEMORY.

I've been subscribed to you for years, and i keep coming back to this video. This is your best video, imo.
Early RCR is a fever dream
The 500e stands for its price on the 2nd hand market today.
I had a 2006 gs500f, took it everywhere, went from the southern most point of Australia to as far as the roads went, went on a lot of dirt roads and she handled everything. I had a screamin demon exhaust on it and it did sound awesome.
"NO NO NO NO NO NO NO" Hilarious I did that to my friends Honda Civic when got a speedo that went to 160.
Unfortunately doesn't work on digital speedometers >.
Was inspired to get a GS500, £600. I've seen montly train passes that cost more
this one will always be my favorite of your videos you should do more stuff like this on your road trip.
"TIME TO WIPE!" whiiirrrrr!
I need to get some of those safety stickers for my bike's speedometer.

1989 GS500e was my first bike. Best upgrade was Vance and Hines ignition advanced. Miss this bike so much.
