I mean, you can't blame the parents for a natural reaction. She does look like a "monster" In fact, it's a biological response etched into our brains through evolution. People with disabilities are NOT conducive for our progency as humans, so it's a natural response. It is scary. These people died off in all of history until modern medicine. Nature intends for them to die, it's un natural for them to be alive.

Please tell her that she IS beautiful! Not only physically but her personality is amazing... she’s very inspiring for someone like me who suffers with chronic depression and often feels very down... some days it’s hard to look at the world in a more positive way... seeing other people with their own chalenges who stay positive makes me feel a little more like I can face the day... God bless ❤️

I dunno-- even among the able-bodied, the kid who is physically or psychologically different in some way-- too fat, too tall, too shy, too talkative, too smart-- can get bullied. Mind you, we live in a culture where bullying is tacitly endorsed and even modeled by adults, so perhaps this shouldn't be so surprising.

I remember getting really freaked out in kindergarden when another kid walked in to my class from another one, and had some sort of tumor on his face. I always think how awful it must've been for the kid, having a little girl who's your same age who seems to be scared by your mere appearance . I really wish we were all more accustomed to different people at a young age so things like that or what she went through never happen. I hope these videos also help getting people to be more empathetic to people who are simply born different.

I've watched quite a few of the "Born Different," "Truly", etc., but there's something about this young woman that totally impresses me so much! She's courageous and smart and kind. Once she decided that SHE was in control with her life, I bet her whole outlook on the world changed for the better! Once someone realizes that they ARE not "puppets on a string", I mean REALLY understands that and believes it, then the world is theirs!
It is what you BELIEVE, after all, that makes you who you are. She is luckier than most of us who fit into society's "norms". God Bless you, Erica. You should consider becoming an inspirational speaker.

You go Erica! You have a gift with children and not everyone can do that. I am a handicapped person and I worked as a School Counselor in the US for 20 years. I needed a mobility scooter but I was afraid that my students would not accept me but they did! They loved it but I was always honest and open with telling them about my disability. Kids sense someone who is loving, caring, compassionate, and fun. You obviously have that no matter how you look. I hope that you can be a Mom one day because you would be a wonderful mother! I thought that I would never find someone who would be able to deal with my disabilities and health problems. Just when I had accepted that I would be single, I found someone and got married 6 months later! That was 19 years ago and I have had a wonderful life with my husband. Just when you least expect it, you will find someone! Good for you for taking charge of your life!

@@Susan-gm1un think about it this way though: there’s no way to predict that bc someone who has a disability that may cause them trouble, there isn’t so much joy to override the difficulties. it doesn’t take away from the purpose and happiness they experience in life. i don’t think you should look at it as just another child who will have troubles, it should be “they may have troubles along the way but who’s to say their life will be any less fulfilling than any able bodied person”

When I was a kid, I NEVER teased kids who were different. On some level I knew that the kids who looked or behaved differently were that way for a reason, and no fault of their own. I just treated them like normal folks What a gift! I hear of how people hurt the people in this video, and I'm proud to say that I wasn't one of the jerks. I was the kid who listened, who laughed at a joke, who actually felt bad when I turned down a request for a date for the dance (because I had a steady boyfriend). I was honest. Thank heavens. I never hurt folks.

I'm not one to say that someone I don't find physically attractive, is "pretty", or "gorgeous" or beautiful", when I don't think they are. Kinda like the chick says in the video. It feels like pity to me, and I'm sure she has experienced it enough to know when its genuine and not. I'm also not one that will call those people names or slurs, because that's childish. But, I will say she seems to be a very kind, and sweet person in general. And that is where it really counts. I'd rather be with someone physically unattractive with a kind personality, than some hot chick/guy that has no personality, has no compassion. She is strong, she is human and yes, looks a little different. If you don't have anything good to say, like the saying goes. Just keep it to yourself.

What a great girl. Why have some people become so afraid of people who appear different. Thank goodness for UA-cam, we get to “meet” more people with disability and hopefully it will help more people to understand that disability is normal. You don’t pick it, it picks you. The next time someone is ignorant enough to be hurtful, remember you don’t know what your future holds, you may become disabled, you may have a disabled person in your life because of fate. Be open to people. Disabled people make our world a richer place.

Absolutely beautiful. I love the attitudes here and telling those kids they're ugly back. And such a confident walk, something I don't have haha. I hugely admire anyone who strives to put a step forward, keeping active where they didn't used to. Shame sbsk doesn't have their comments working still and this channel does, but I'm glad still about this outlet

She’s a beautiful person with a big soul, she’s fool of kindness & love, she’s very down to earth. She said she was bullied in school as well at the park where other children were playing, before they called her a monster. There’s no excuse for mean children to say hurtful things. They were taught incorrectly at home by their parents. I have ZERO TOLERANCE for the ignorant parents that teach their children to be prejudice, mean, abnoxious, hurtful, bullies. Instead of teaching their kids that just because other people look different, speak a different language, their skin & hair is different than theirs, GOD made us all the same. Those adult parents should be arrested & brought up on charges for being unfit parents & confusing their minds. You’re a beautiful person in & out don’t let anyone tell you other wise. Go after all your dreams & let them materialize. I would & be honered to have you as my friend. 🤗🥰🍄💐🌹🌻🌷🌼🌺

She is 100% right, those kids aren't being raised properly. I was raised to never pick on someone for how they look or act, and I had lots of friends through the years with different syndromes and disabilities. Never once did I think less of them, but again that's how I was raised. To respect people and understand that differences are what make people unique individuals. Erica is very inspiring and I like that she does things her way and makes the best of her life. I wish I was more like her. I fall apart very easily because my anxiety and OCD is very severe. Hell. I can't even climb a rock wall, I'm too out of shape and nervous for that! Yay for Boston, that's where I live! It's a lovely place to visit. :)

Erica, you are an amazing woman...I love how you look at life and you aren't afraid to go after whatever it is that you want to try. You are an inspiration to children and adults alike...and yes, teaching children not to bully other children, is such a monumental thing for most people to handle...but, you have such a love of children and such a way to interact with them, that you make it all seem so easy. I hope you find exactly what it is you want in life and that you will be able to have children by adoption or whatever you choose...God Bless you and thank you for so willingly sharing your story. Love and hugs, Erica!😊💖

Hey, have you thought about fostering? I have been told that is can help financially. Also, I think you look fine as you are, however if you wanted to enhance the shape of your eyes, may be cosmetic tattooing would help without any of the risks of surgery.
Just some thoughts, but you're doing great.
