- How to fix microphone not working on Windows 10 easily. The 3 or 4 pin mic may stop working without any reason or after Windows updates. You may have a headset with a mic or a standalone mic and these may not work on the single combo jack of your laptop.
If you just have a mic then it should work with the TRRS jack of your laptop.
Even you can connect a 4 pin headset to the dual audio jack of PC or laptop.
This video solves the mic related issue with your laptop/PC doesn't matter if you have a 3.5 mm 3 Pin mic or 4 pin mic headset. OR USB mic in some cases.
The most common problem is that earphones not working on a laptop having Windows 10 or Windows 11. The speakers may work but the mic doesn't work.
This can happen to any headphones with a mic.

I just want to give you a big thank you hug. I bought some skull candy earbuds for my laptop so I don’t have to use discord on my phone because I didn’t have headphones that worked with the pc, and I noticed the mic in the earbuds were not working. I looked up a video about “why doesn’t my earbud mic work” and saw a video and it said you need to buy an external cable and other crap like that and then I came across this video and it saved the day, after I uninstalled the Realtek drive, my mic was working perfectly.

am I the only one that is scared to uninstall the Realtek Audio
Windows will auto reinstall the driver upon plugging in a device that uses it or needs it. Since it is a default driver it'll be reinstalled upon startup

Thank you very much, this tutorial helped me solve the problem. I needed to reinstall the Realtek HD audio software on Asus X540SC, now the computer detects the device when it is plugged to the jack port, the Realtek software asks if the device is a headset, a mic or speaker, so i can select and then it works fine.

I'm using a headphone/headset, which is a 2in1, and I have 2x3,5 jack pin for it. I changed the the settings in the Realtek Audio Manager, and it has solved it!
The only option that worked for me was to go to the Dell's website, find my laptop reference and download again the audio driver. It doesn't matter that the Device Manager says that the audio driver is the latest. For some reason the one from the Dell website is the one that worked. Try with your own brand and reference.

i desperate need help. i have a set of headphones that i comes with a cord that has a microphone on it, no i know the headset can be connected to a mic. the part that plugs right into the headphones is a three pin, then that other end is a four pin. and on that cord there is a microphone. i ONLY have a headset jack in my laptop. shouldn't it work since the end that goes into the headset port is a four pin? im so desperate

I had such a huge headache for weeks trying to find a solution to why my mic or any other of my headsets weren't working. All I needed to do was uninstall and delete the Realtek audio drivers then reinstall them again. Windows 10 literally breaks more shit than its suppose to fix.
